Homemade staple

10 ingredients or less

Almond butter is a staple in our home, and we add it to just about everything: toast, pancakes, oatmeal, smoothies, and even added into dressings. It's unbelievably easy to make yourself at home: just 1 ingredient + 15 minutes is all you need.

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Place the almonds onto a baking tray, and toast in the oven for 7 - 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until lightly golden*.
  2. Add the toasted almonds to a high-powered food processor** (ideally 600W or higher) and blend on high for 5 - 7 minutes until creamy.
  3. Continue to blend until smooth. Stopping too soon results in a thicker consistency. If your food processor isn't very powerful, you may need to blend it for an extra 5 minutes to achieve the desired consistency or consider adding a bit of oil to help the process along. Enjoy!

Notes

  • * The almonds will continue to "bake" even when removed from the oven, so be careful not to overcook.
  • ** Use a food processor and not a blender for this. If the mixture heats up, let it rest to cool slightly so as to not damage your food processor.

Storage

  • Store in an airtight container or mason jar in a cool, dry, and dark place for up to 1 month.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 3 months.

This is so tasty! I would love to make homemade peanut butter too, do you think this recipe could be used for that but just replace almonds with peanuts? 😊

Angie B - March 10, 2024, 2:43 a.m.

I made with great northern beans and agave nectar. Delicious! Thanks!

Alana - Feb. 28, 2024, 6:44 p.m.

Hi! I made it and it was perfect!
I tried addind honey twice but the texture is sticky. Are there any tips for an almond butter with honey? Tks!!!

PUL Team - Feb. 28, 2024, 11:26 p.m.

Hey Alana, we only use plant-based products here so we haven't before. Due to the high fat content in the nuts, adding a water-based sweetener like honey will cause the mixture to "seize" and become thick. You could try sweeteners like maple syrup, agave, powdered sugar, or coconut sugar instead :)

Alana - Feb. 29, 2024, 1:04 p.m.

Tks so much!!! I’ll try! ; )

Alana Alves - Feb. 14, 2024, 11:26 p.m.

Hi! I'm an old YouTube fan but new here on the app. loving everything here.
1 question: do I blend the nuts cold or hot after roasting? thanks!

PUL Team - Feb. 15, 2024, 2:29 a.m.

Hey Alana, thanks for your interest in PUL content and welcome to the app! We refer blending the roasted almonds when they're still toasty as it helps them blend smoother :)

alana - Feb. 15, 2024, 12:35 p.m.

thanks!

Rebekah - Nov. 30, 2023, 5:50 p.m.

I think my oven wasn't hot enough for something, because I roasted for 7 minutes but they weren't as fragrant as I expected and my almond butter kind of tastes like raw almond butter. My instincts were to roast for longer, but I saw the note about the almonds continuing to "bake" after taking them out of the oven, so I didn't. I'm eager to try this again with a 10 minute roasting time!

PUL Team - Dec. 1, 2023, 1:24 a.m.

Hey Rebekah, thanks for sharing your experience with the Homemade Almond Butter. It can be tricky since ovens tend to vary but we hope you love the recipe with a 10-minute roast time next time 🤗

Luiza Alice - Jan. 20, 2024, 12:19 p.m.

Only in food processor ? Or did you try in 2000 Watts blender ?

Petronela - Jan. 23, 2024, 9:12 p.m.

Only in a food processor, I don't have such a powerful blender and was afraid not to break it.

Sandee - June 27, 2023, 3:15 p.m.

Romane - Nov. 24, 2022, 7:48 a.m.

Hello, I just done m'y peanut butter. It's so tasty and it feel way more natural. It was pretty long in the good processor. I'm always afraid to break m'y food processor. Did you ever break yours doing this ?

PUL Team - Nov. 25, 2022, 4:29 p.m.

Hi Romane! We haven't broken ours, but we've been mindful not to push it, and we've only ever made nut butter in a high-powered food processor. Weaker ones might not be able to do it. An off sound or smell are two signs the food processor is being pushed too much. It can help to turn off the food processor for 30-60 intervals as needed, and then continue blending to help avoid this. In case you're interested and haven't already seen already, we talk about high-powered food processors in our kitchen essentials article here: pickuplimes.com/article/kitch… 😊

Alice - Oct. 31, 2023, 6:45 p.m.

I want to make that almond butter therefore I am currently looking at the Magimix food processor you suggested. As I am cooking just for myself I thought I would get the mini Plus but the power is only 400 W. What is the minimum power you would recommend to be able to make that recipe without breaking the food processor?

PUL Team - Nov. 1, 2023, 12:29 a.m.

Hey Alice, how exciting about the mini plus! Our food processors tend to be between 500-1200 watts. The manufacturer website might also say if the model works well for nut butters 😊

Sammy - Nov. 21, 2022, 10:38 p.m.

So wonderful. I'm so inspired by the recipe. Tomorrow I'm surely going to make almond butter. Thanks Pickup Limes

PUL Team - Nov. 22, 2022, 2:49 a.m.

Leila - Nov. 8, 2021, 8:07 p.m.

This recipe inspired me to try making nut butter for the first time. I under roasted them a bit in the first batch so it didn’t have the strongest flavor, but the second batch was just right! My partner and I couldn’t get enough. So surprised how easy it was!

PUL Team - Nov. 9, 2021, 2:39 a.m.

Aw we're so thrilled the recipe was enjoyed by you and your partner, Leila 🤗

Alzena - Oct. 25, 2021, 8:48 p.m.

I blended my almond butter seemed like forever and it never got to the runny stage. I started out in the food processor then switched to the blender because it was taking so long. Any suggestion? Taste really good, I added cinnamon and vanilla..

PUL Team - Oct. 26, 2021, 5:24 a.m.

Hi there, Alzena, that's a lovely question! Pushing through can make all the difference. If your food processor isn't very powerful though, you may need to blend it for an extra 5-10 minutes to achieve the desired consistency. You could also consider adding a bit of vegetable oil or coconut oil to help the process along 🙂 We hope this helps for now!

Sumedha Gupta - Aug. 26, 2021, 8:33 p.m.

Such a simple and amazing recipe!

Thank you, Melisa, for taking the time to share the review! It's so appreciated 🤗

Rowan - July 14, 2021, 5:34 a.m.

This almond butter is so beautiful, creamy, and tasty!

Rori Raccoon - July 11, 2021, 12:03 p.m.

Dear PUL team - do you have any suggestions for the almond butter if we don't have a food processor, but an ordinary blender? :(

PUL Team - July 16, 2021, 4:50 a.m.

Hi Rori, that's definitely a really common question! We wouldn't advise using a blender as your blender could break. We chat a bit more about it here: pickuplimes.com/article/kitch…. Hope this helps for now ✨

DeeGee - June 1, 2021, 7:44 p.m.

Will the almond butter separate like when purchased at the market?

PUL Team - June 5, 2021, 6:52 p.m.

Hi DeeGee, indeed if left to sit long enough the almond butter will separate a bit. This is normal as the oil tends to go to the top when untouched for a while. Giving the almond butter a good mix before using it, or storing the almond butter in a sealed jar upside down in the fridge can help minimize or prevent the separation if desired ✨🤗

Amour - April 26, 2021, 10:40 p.m.

I love this recipe and always come to it to make almond butter. More people should!

PUL Team - April 27, 2021, 5:42 a.m.

So glad you're enjoying the recipe, Amour!
