So good! I had trouble finding a decent cherry pie filling that didn't have artificial food coloring and other additives, so I used these delicious Tillen Farms Bada Bing jarred cherries that I found at the grocery store, added chia seeds to the jar to thicken up the juice the cherries were submerged in overnight, then used that as my 'cherry pie filling' and it was ::chef's kiss:: I also added 1 tsp of maple syrup to the oatmeal mix just to take the edge off the slight bitterness from the cocoa. Then topped it all with some black cherry skyr and pecans. It was so decadent!

PUL Team - April 22, 2024, 7:50 p.m.

This sounds absolutely divine, Hazel! The use of chia seeds to create a natural cherry pie filling is a clever trick. Thanks for sharing your tasty twist for the overnight oats ☺️

Claire Whittaker - March 24, 2024, 9:15 p.m.

Tried this as a warm oatmeal for a winter varient and made my own cherry pie filling from frozen cherries at the same time as I was already cooking! Enjoyed it

Hania - March 18, 2024, 9:57 p.m.

Perfect for a quick breakfast in the morning! Love it

Kat - March 8, 2024, 6:45 a.m.

Its like cake for breakfast 😍😍 I loooove it!

Betzy Vogel - Feb. 17, 2024, 10:10 a.m.

If you can't find or currently just don't have any cherry pie filling it's easy to make at home: you need a glass of cherries and cornstarch.
Add the cherries and the liquid (except for 2 or 3 tablespoons) to a pot and bring it to a boil. In the mean time mix in some cornstarch in the leftover liquid (depending how thick you want the filling to be - I usually do 2 or 3 teaspoons) until both are fully combined. When the cherries are boiling mix in the cornstarch liquid (start with less and add more later if you want a thicker consistents) and whisk it so you don't get any clumps. Remove from the heat and let it cool a bit. Enjoy :)

PUL Team - Feb. 18, 2024, 4:37 a.m.

Ooo thanks for the tip, Betzy - it's so appreciated!☺️

Rachel M - Feb. 10, 2024, 9:40 p.m.

Sandi Ruddick - Dec. 4, 2023, 5:34 a.m.

These were so decadent and dessert-like, it was hard to believe they are a nutrient-rich breakfast 😋

Bethan Harcourt - Dec. 1, 2023, 8:32 a.m.

I love this recipe. I've never used cherry pie filling before, but it makes this breakfast feel so luxurious. I love how the almond comes through despite such a small amount too

PUL Team - Dec. 2, 2023, 1:04 a.m.

Yay we’re so glad that the overnight oats are being enjoyed, Bethan, thank you!

Rosa - June 30, 2023, 2:35 p.m.

I did not have any vegan yogurt, so I skipped that, but this recipe was delicious! I made enough for a week and did not get tired of eating them. I can't wait to try all the other oat recipes on this site!

PUL Team - July 2, 2023, 4:54 a.m.

So happy to hear, Rosa!

Helsy - June 25, 2023, 4:10 p.m.

These are so good. My 2 year old helped me make some jars up for my husband. He is struggling at the moment with eating as he is in a shift pattern, and he loves these! (And my little boy loves to lick the spoon when made!)

PUL Team - June 26, 2023, 3:08 a.m.

Aw so nice of your little one, Helsy 🥰

Alona - May 24, 2023, 4:03 p.m.

Amazing recipe! We made it several times and it helped us not skip breakfast.

Kristina - May 11, 2023, 8:23 a.m.

Vielen herzlichen Dank das und die anderen Overnight Oats sind so lecker .
Herzliche Grüße aus Norddeutschland von Kristina

Bradley Steel - April 13, 2023, 4:38 a.m.

This is basically a weekly breakfast menu item in our household!

Quick tip to eliminate clumps of almond butter, is to whisk everything but the oats together first then stir in the oats after. Not that there would be anything wrong with an extra dose of almond butter in the mouthful in my opinion.

PUL Team - April 13, 2023, 7:04 a.m.

Thanks for sharing your experience with it, Bradley 🤗

Ruchi - Feb. 20, 2023, 2:26 p.m.

Loved the recipe! Made some modifications—-Forgot to add flaxseeds and only did half the almond butter and just used plant-based hot cocoa powder (all I had!) —and it was still delicious! I think I will try again with fresh cherries, it sounds like it would be a great pairing.

PUL Team - Feb. 21, 2023, 10:53 p.m.

Thanks for sharing your experience with it, Ruchi, it means so much 😃

Amaya - Feb. 12, 2023, 10:04 a.m.

Honestly this is our fav breakfast.. my 7 year old boy love eating this… infact I made it tonight for tomorrow.. thanks a lot

PUL Team - Feb. 12, 2023, 5:45 p.m.

Oh so happy to hear, Amaya! It can be tricky to impress little ones so we take that as a huge compliment 😃

Hanna - Feb. 11, 2023, 4:12 p.m.

I didn't have all the ingredients at home, so I swapped soy milk for almond milk and almond butter for tahini, also bananas instead of cherries - nevertheless it was very delicious and I can see myself eating this more often!

PUL Team - Feb. 11, 2023, 5:20 p.m.

Mmm sounds delicious, Hanna! We're so glad the overnight oats were enjoyed with the modifications 😊

Giorgia Casella - Feb. 10, 2023, 10:44 a.m.

So decadent and yet modern. Loved it 😍

lusanda - Feb. 4, 2023, 4:35 a.m.

Overnight oats is the best

Thank you, Neha!

Kathryn - June 15, 2022, 4:15 a.m.

This is my new favorite overnight oats recipe. I top with chopped almonds and a few mini chocolate chips and wow. Love this recipe! Thank you so much for sharing.

PUL Team - June 16, 2022, 6:52 a.m.

A huge compliment, Kathryn, we're so happy to hear 😃

Courtney - June 13, 2022, 7:15 p.m.

If you are a person that battles with wanting dessert for breakfast but knows you are going to crash before lunch if you do, this is the breakfast for you! (especially perfect for those of us who struggle with hormonal cravings). I didn't make any changes at all except adding a few fresh cherries when I ate it.

PUL Team - June 16, 2022, 1:59 a.m.

We appreciate it so much, Courtney, thank you for sharing your experience with the overnight oats!

Florent.C - June 9, 2022, 6:01 p.m.

Your video about overnight oats make me discover a new way to enjoy breakfast,
I tried many variation inspired by all your oats recipe, thank you !

PUL Team - June 10, 2022, 8:06 p.m.

Aw so happy to hear, Florent, thank YOU ✨

Inga - May 27, 2022, 9:14 p.m.

This recipe sounds more than great!
But as I'm not a native speaker, I'm a bit confused, what Dutch Processed Cocoa Powder is.
Is that the unsweetened one you use for baking?

PUL Team - May 28, 2022, 10:52 p.m.

Hey there, Inga, Dutch processed cocoa powder is also known as alkalized cocoa. It's a processed form of cocoa powder that's sweeter in taste and dissolves easily in liquid compared to natural cocoa powder which is more bitter. We personally prefer Dutch-processed cocoa powder since it's more mellow although you can use whichever variety is more accessible in this recipe. We hope you enjoy it if you're able to give the overnight oats a try 🙂

Hillary - May 16, 2022, 11:02 p.m.

This was so delicious! Oatmeal is a bit hit or miss for me so I didn't know how much I could love it but I'm ecstatic to add this into my meal prep rotation 💖 Thank you for the recipe!

PUL Team - May 18, 2022, 3:47 a.m.

Woohoo! Thank you, Hillary, it means so much 😃

Kristy - April 28, 2022, 2:02 a.m.

So tasty! I just made a new batch - I’ve made it several times and it’s a family favorite. I use frozen cherries instead of the filling but follow the rest of the recipe as written. Thanks Pickuplimes!

PUL Team - April 29, 2022, 3:42 a.m.

A lovely idea, Kristy, thank YOU 😄

Breanna - Feb. 2, 2022, 9:43 p.m.

Cherries aren't in season right now so I used frozen cherries. I absolutely love the flavour combination of the dark chocolate, cherries, and almond butter! And the coconut yogurt is a must! It definitely gives the oats a more indulgent, whipped cream-like texture.

P.S. warm greetings from Canada 👋

PUL Team - Feb. 3, 2022, 5:32 a.m.

So thrilled it's being enjoyed, Breanna! Sending lots of love to Canada 💚

Anke - Dec. 28, 2021, 10:21 a.m.

This is the first porridge I really like 😍

PUL Team - Dec. 28, 2021, 6:47 p.m.

A huge compliment, Anke - we're so happy it was enjoyed!

Clara - Sept. 1, 2021, 8:02 a.m.

I make this all of the time now as it hits so many of the daily dozen challenge ingredients suggested by Dr Michael Greger. I always use vanilla extract and water instead of plant milk, occasionally I use peanut butter when I run out of almond and never had any issues with the flavour. One thing I’ve wondered though is whether the cherry pie filling would count as a portion of fruit or is the sugar content too high? I wondered if you could help me with this, I’ve done it with homemade cherry chia seed jam a few times too and that is really yummy!

PUL Team - Sept. 2, 2021, 2:19 a.m.

We're so glad you're enjoying the overnight oats, Clara, and thank you for the question! Desserts can be a lovely way to enjoy fruit. For pie filling, it can vary depending on if it's homemade or store-bought. For store-bought pie filling, if fruit is the first ingredient in the ingredients list, generally a 1/2 cup of filling will provide 1/4 cup of fruit. More sample portion sizes can be found here: morethanameal.info/manual/chapter6/chap6_sec6.html We hope this helps for now 🤗

Jeni - Aug. 7, 2021, 11:14 a.m.

Yummy!! Easy to make for work!!!

Jonczi - July 30, 2021, 2:16 a.m.

One of my beloved breakfasts! It's filling, it tastes amazing, and it's extremely easy to make!

Birte - July 24, 2021, 7:38 p.m.

Absolutely in love with these ❤️ I make them every week and i always have to make more to bring them to my parents :)

PUL Team - July 26, 2021, 7:38 p.m.

So kind of you to bring it for your parents! Thank you for the review, Birte 🙂

Kim Treadwell - July 10, 2021, 5:02 p.m.

I discovered PUL earlier this year. Where have you been all my life?! This is the first PUL recipe I tried. For the first batch, I only made 2 servings in case I wanted to adjust anything. Nope. Not necessary. My only regret was not making more! I've made multiple batches since, and I'm still just as obsessed with it. I can't wait to try out the other overnight oat recipes! And the recently posted iced coffee recipes!

PUL Team - July 16, 2021, 1:50 a.m.

Ahh we are SO grateful you stumbled upon the PUL community, Kim! Your support means so much. Happy cooking 🤗

Iris - July 9, 2021, 7:49 p.m.

I was so hooked on this stuff for three weeks straight, I had to take a break from it haha! When I have the time and energy to make breakfast before I go to bed, this is the one I make. I also tried the blueberry one, which was fine by all means, but this... this hits the SPOT!
It is a lot for me though, so I usually make this full recipe for my boyfriend who is a big eater and half it for myself. We enjoy it with freezer-cherries, and any nutbutter we have. And the homemade ones are worth it, just saying. If I could give this six stars, I would.

PUL Team - July 15, 2021, 3:11 a.m.

We truly appreciate this so much, Iris! Love the topping suggestions as well 😍

Katherine Broberg - July 9, 2021, 7:37 p.m.

Black Forest gateau is my favorite cake, so it was quite a treat to eat some for breakfast. It was pretty sweet, though, so I reserve it for special occasions.

PUL Team - July 15, 2021, 2:59 a.m.

So glad to hear you enjoyed the overnight oats, Katherine! Feel free to add a touch less cocoa powder, almond extract, or pie filling to help reduce the sweetness if desired :)

Charlotte - July 9, 2021, 12:44 p.m.

I didn't know this was missing from my life until I tried it, and I am so glad I did! I have made the PUL Raw Black Forest Cake a couple of times in the past and I have learnt that cherry-coconut-chocolate-almond are definitely one of my favourite flavour combinations. Out of all the PUL overnight recipes, this is the one which to me tastes the most like dessert.
I made my boyfriend try some after I had raved about it and he found it pretty bitter. I guess it is down to personal taste but I love it!

PUL Team - July 14, 2021, 3:59 p.m.

Thank you for the incredible review, Charlotte! Some people may find cocoa powder a bit bitter. We're so glad you enjoyed the recipe though 😃

Sarah - July 9, 2021, 10:39 a.m.

Hi :) I realy want to make this but i have a question. How big (ml) is the jar thar you're using? Or how mani ml is one serving? Greetings Sarah

PUL Team - July 13, 2021, 2:30 p.m.

A lovely question, Sarah! For the photos, we used an 8oz/240mL jar, but I wouldn't advise this if making it yourself as home, as the jars can get cramped once the toppings are added the next morning. We used the smaller jars in the photos more for presentation 😜 In the video, you'll see we used 16 oz/480mL jars, which are recommended. It's definitely easier to eat that way. You can of course always simply add the ingredients to a bowl as well. I hope this helps, and hope you enjoy the recipe 😊

M - July 9, 2021, 8:10 a.m.

I make this in batches and literally eat every morning for breakfast. Dessert for breakfast!! 🥰 since, it’s so healthy, I don’t even feel guilty 💃🏻💞

Cris S - June 5, 2021, 4:49 p.m.

I'd replace the almond extract with almond flour (or almond liquor 😉), because the the extract gives it a bitter taste, but otherwise it's good!

PUL Team - June 5, 2021, 10 p.m.

Hehe thank you for the ideas, Cris! Opting for vanilla extract is another idea that may help reduce the bitterness if the almond extract isn't desired ✨😊

Saman Abdulazim - May 26, 2021, 10:32 p.m.

I really want to start eating healthy and these overnight oats are so tempting to start with!!! But....
I do not have plant based milk/Yogurt nor do i have almond butter (can't make it at home). Could i use regular diary milk/Yogurt and peanut butter from the superstore??

PUL Team - May 28, 2021, 1:49 a.m.

Hey there, Saman, that's a great question! You can use any milk, yogurt, or nut butter that is accessible to you 😊

Saman Abdulazim - May 28, 2021, 7:25 p.m.

Thank u so much!! 💕
You are a motivation to start with a healthy lifestyle!!
God bless you and ur team!!

Lieke - May 23, 2021, 9:14 a.m.

I'm loving this breakfast! I live in The Netherlands so I actually use the exact same cherry pie filling, and it's delicious! Very filling too. I used vanilla extract instead of almond extract and topped it with calcium-fortified soy yogurt, berries and a little chopped dark chocolate for added texture. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe!

PUL Team - May 24, 2021, 7:23 a.m.

Aw this is so lovely to hear, Lieke, thank you for sharing! Your additions sound delicious 🤤

Clare - May 19, 2021, 2:16 p.m.

So delicious! Since I used nutella instead of nut butter, it was on the sweeter side but still incredibly tasty!

PUL Team - May 22, 2021, 5 a.m.

We're so glad you enjoyed the overnight oats, Clare!

Anna - April 9, 2021, 9:07 a.m.

Hmm so delicious! All of them will be so perfect in hot summer.
As I'am german, we can't buy cherry pie filling here, so I did my own after the recipe of my past apprenticeship as confectioner/pastry chef (it's in one here).

Defrost cherries, press a lot of liquid (don't throw away) out of them without crushing, then weight them

For 50g of pressed cherries
6g sugar or syrup of choice
A small slit of bio-orange with the peel on
A small slit of bio-citron with peel on
4g wheat starch, replace with corn starch

Cook everything with the liquid of the cherries like pudding, let cool and enjoy

If some like the real black forest taste (Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte in german), eat it as lunch and pour a lot of some cherry alcohol in the oats, because that's what they do with the cake. Then ... Have fun!

PUL Team - April 9, 2021, 11:21 p.m.

This is so awesome, Anna! Thank you so much for taking the time to share 🤩

Louise Magnusson 🇸🇪 - March 27, 2021, 4:09 p.m.

Absolutely amazing! The bitterness from the cacao powder goes so well with the sweet cherries. I used canned cherries that I suppose are not as sweet as cherry pie filling, which might have reduced the heaviness. I topped my overnight oat with yoghurt, some more canned cherries, almond flakes, and chopped 80 % chocolate. I got the Black Forest cake feeling😋☺️

PUL Team - April 2, 2021, 8:33 p.m.

Canned cherries are a great idea, Louise! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review with us 😀

Bria - March 27, 2021, 3:42 p.m.

Can you share what brands of coconut yogurt you use? It always looks so thick and delicious and I can’t seem to find yogurt like that!

PUL Team - April 2, 2021, 7:28 p.m.

Hi Bria, we usually use the Albert Heijn brand (https://www.ah.nl/producten/p…)! Not sure where in the world home is for you, but if you get a chance to give it a try, we think it's great 😀

Jasmine - June 24, 2021, 8:05 a.m.

This is the comment I was looking for!! But this brand isn’t in my country 😩

Bria - June 24, 2021, 5:12 p.m.

Same, Jasmine! It’s hard to find good vegan yogurt brands unfortunately!

Jane eyre - March 24, 2021, 8:25 p.m.

These were pretty good! Thick and heavy - will stick to the ribs and keep you full! Recommend adding some tart plain yogurt on top and a sprinkle of salad to add a pop of flavor to this mild overnight oats recipe

PUL Team - April 2, 2021, 6:16 a.m.

Oo thank you for the recommendations, Jane! That sounds delicious 😍🤤

Alexa - March 22, 2021, 9:21 a.m.

I never comment on recipes. This jar of oats was so delicious I felt compelled to write a review. Sweet and creamy, but not too rich. Filling, but not heavy. The flavors remind me a lot of my grandma’s Black Forest brownies. I will make this one again and again. I made the recipe as stated, except I subbed out the cherry pie filling for Winco brand frozen cherries, because that’s what I had on hand. They worked great. Thanks for the great recipe, Pick Up Limes!

PUL Team - April 2, 2021, 1:56 a.m.

Thank YOU for the glowing review, Alexa! It's super appreciated 🥰

Hicksbean - March 22, 2021, 9:12 a.m.

This is so insanely good! I swapped out the cherry pie filling for some jam I already had at home, almond butter for cashew butter, and used chia instead of flax seeds. Topped it off with some cacao cinnamon dusted almonds and some frozen cherries and this is the best breakfast I had in a long time. Thank you AND i can't wait to try your other oat recipes <3

PUL Team - March 31, 2021, 5:57 a.m.

Mmm what lovely substitutions! Thanks so much for sharing, Hicksbean 🤗

lpb - March 22, 2021, 8:46 a.m.

I’ve never tried black forest before but I thought the cherry part was the best part for sure! Maybe add a little less cocoa powder to make it less bitter and a little bit less almond extract, but it was pretty good!

PUL Team - March 30, 2021, 11:08 p.m.

Thank you for sharing, lpb! Glad you enjoyed it :)

Michaela - March 22, 2021, 8:40 a.m.

Very delicious!
I make my own cherrypiefilling with frozen cherries.

Sadia - March 29, 2021, 4:24 p.m.

oooh that's a great idea!

uLi - March 22, 2021, 8:39 a.m.

This is so delicious! Haven't had overnight oats in a while but got a craving after seeing the video with your recipe ideas. Just made the black forest overnight oats for my breakfast tomorrow and cannot wait to have it! :)

Sadia - March 29, 2021, 4:17 p.m.

I hope you enjoyed it uLi! 🤗
