Hummus is a classic for a reason. This is a go-to hummus recipe. It's a great spread for sandwiches, wraps, and crackers. It's a phenomenal dip for veggies. It can be used as a base for pasta sauces and salad dressings, and it can be dolloped onto nourish bowls. Is there anything it can't do?

  • 1½ cups (278 g)
    cooked chickpeas
  • 1
    lemon, juiced
  • 2 Tbsp (30 mL)
  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL)
    olive oil
  • 2
    cloves garlic**
  • ½ tsp
  • ¼ cup (60 mL)
    cold water

Optional garnish

  • fresh basil
  • ground cumin
  • pomegranate seeds

  1. Add all of the ingredients, except for the water, to a food processor and blend on high, stopping occasionally to scrape the sides. Continue until a smooth consistency is achieved. The longer it's left to blend, the smoother it becomes.
  2. While the mixture is blending, in a thin and steady stream, add the cold water to the food processor. The colder the water is, the better. We often add an ice cube to ours to chill it, although this is not necessary. Adding the water in this way while the mixture blends helps to aerate the hummus and make it more 'fluffy'. If desired, though, the water can simply be added with the ingredients in step #1, and this step can be skipped.
  3. Taste test the hummus. If you’d like the consistency to be creamier, add more olive oil and/or tahini. If you’d like more zest, add more lemon juice.
  4. Plate, garnish, and serve!


  • * Consider using only 1 garlic clove if you aren't too fond of garlicky hummus.
  • This recipe is a lovely one to make-ahead, to enjoy in sandwiches and wraps throughout the week!

This is really really good. I don't have a food processor so I use a blender and it still works.

This is such a good recipe. I’ve made it twice now. The first time I added a little smoked paprika and the second time some sun dried tomatoes and topped with a little Trader Joe’s sofrito mix. Fantastic both times!

hey! wondering if i can make this hummus using a hand blender or ninja cup....

Hey Rachel, that’s a great question! We wouldn't recommend a hand blender as your hand blender could break. Your ninja cup may work if you find it powerful enough and break up the recipe portions though! If you hear any weird sounds or smell anything unexpected, it likely would be best to stop blending though ✨🤗

Hey Michael, wonderful thinking! It should be around 1.5 cups or 370 grams per recipe although it may vary slightly depending on some factors, such as how big the garlic cloves used are, how much lemon juice is used, etc. We hope you love the hummus pasta 😃

My boyfriend usually makes hummus for us for the week, he just wings it and always does something different. This week we didn't have time to do it over the weekend but I had time to do some while he was working. I was stressed that it wouldn't turn out as good as his but I followed this recipe and it turned out so so good, topped it off with a bit of olive oil and paprika to dip pita in and it was great, my boyfriend even said "it's sooo good, I want more" after we finished our snack.

Seriously, this hummus is really fresh and works so well for an afternoon snack (fika!!). I added a 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin for default servings, which pop up the lemon and garlic flavours. I love PUL’s hummus and I crave for more 🤣😉
