  • 1 Tbsp (8 g)
    roasted walnuts, chopped
  • ½ Tbsp (8 g)
  • ½ tsp
    toasted sesame seeds (optional)

  1. Add the buckwheat and milk to a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook covered with a lid for 15 minutes, stirring often.
  2. When cooked, add the mashed banana, cocoa powder, tahini, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until heated through.
  3. Remove from the heat and cover with a lid. Let sit for 5 minutes. This helps to soften the grain further.
  4. Serve, add toppings as desired, and enjoy!

  • If using raw buckwheats, toast them first on a dry skillet over medium heat for 4 - 5 minutes until golden, stirring throughout.
  • Nutrition tip: aim to use plant-based milk/yogurt that is fortified with calcium.

Absolutely delicious. I think people complaining about it in the comments put the fire too high or forgot to stir often. For me it turned out perfectly fine

Ariel Stanley - June 6, 2024, 5:55 a.m.

Hi! These are so good! Thank you so much for my favorite breakfast! I added homemade vegan toffee with the chocolate chips and it was great!

Tina - May 30, 2024, 7:32 a.m.

This is the best breakfast recipe you've made! Absolutely love it, such a delicious flavour and feels really healthy too.

Molly W - May 27, 2024, 9:19 a.m.

I really want to like this recipe as everything ingredient is something I like. But this is the first PUL recipe I have tried and couldn't finish. I have marked it down for 2 reasons

One was my personal preference because it wasn't the recipe that was the issue. It was my personal taste. The texture was very strange and the buck wheat added a lot more savouryness than I thought it was going to! I got about a third/half way through and had to stop eating because I couldn't get over the texture.
Two, the only other reason I have marked it down again is because I really feel it needs longer cooking. I followed. The recipe exactly as stated, but when I was eating it, the Cocoa powder felt like it needed to be cooked out a bit?
I think others may love this recipe but it you are put off by textures, this might not be for you!

PUL Team - May 27, 2024, 6:44 p.m.

Hey Molly, thank you for your feedback, It's helpful to know that the texture and cooking time were issues for you. We'll consider your comments for future recipes, and hope you enjoy our other recipes more 🙂

Becka L - May 26, 2024, 8:53 p.m.

I adore this recipebut find the tablespoon of Cocoa powder too much so halved the amount and its now perfect. Really enjoying the rich variety of breakfast recipes on PUL x

joanna - May 18, 2024, 2:43 p.m.

Delicious! We make it time and time again. My 10yo loves it!

Eva S. Gundry - May 14, 2024, 3:56 a.m.

Never had anything like this before! I used Organic Cacao Powder instead and it was still really good - guessing a bit less sweet which I didn’t mind! Very filling!

Inu - May 6, 2024, 11:40 a.m.

I must admit. I hate buckwheat. It smells and tastes funny.
BUT I LOVE this “porridge”. Filling. Chocolatey. Crunchy.
I hate buckwheat a little bit less now. ✌️

PUL Team - May 7, 2024, 12:48 a.m.

Yay so glad the buckwheat porridge was a success, Inu!

Nour Dukmak - April 22, 2024, 7:25 p.m.

Yum 😋 A nice change from my regular oatmeal

C. - April 21, 2024, 10:25 a.m.

Really sad about how this turned out. I made quite a lot of your recipes and all of them were bangers, this one was an absolute fail and waste of ingredients. Everything instantly burned and got stuck to the bottom of the pot, the soy milk boiled over almost immediately, I had a "skin" forming on top of the cooking buckwheat all the time and I ended up throwing away a bunch of soupy-burned-uncooked buckwheat :(

PUL Team - April 22, 2024, 3:24 a.m.

Hi C, aw it's disheartening when a recipe doesn't work out as planned, especially when you've had success with others! It sounds like the high heat and boiling soy milk caused the burning and skin formation. To prevent this, we'd recommend cooking on a lower heat and stirring more frequently to avoid sticking. A thicker-bottomed pot or non-stick cookware can also help. If you decide to give it another go, we hope your next attempt turns out better!

zos - April 1, 2024, 9:53 a.m.

Me and my children like it a lot! Healthy and original!

Marguerite - March 30, 2024, 8:02 a.m.

Absolutely delicious! Such a treat and super filling.

Aurora - Feb. 23, 2024, 5:37 p.m.

Love this so much. I feel amazing after eating this. More buckwheat porridge recipes please!

Evi - Feb. 12, 2024, 12:14 p.m.

This is a game changer! Healthy, nourishing and comforting. Because I’m lazy, I made the buckwheat with water in my rice cooker and then just stirred in the rest of the ingredients once done. The portion size was perfect for me. I can highly recommend! ✨

PUL Team - Feb. 12, 2024, 5:55 p.m.

Ooo love the modification to use your rice cooker, Evi! We’re so thrilled that the buckwheat porridge was enjoyed as well 🫶

Sophie Kendall - Jan. 31, 2024, 12:09 p.m.

Not bad but not my favourite of Paul's breakfasts. Maybe some fresh fruit would add to it?

PUL Team - Jan. 31, 2024, 5:10 p.m.

Hey Sophie, thanks for sharing your experience with the porridge! You could totally add fresh fruit if you'd like. We've also heard positive reviews for adding some jam 😊

Diana - Jan. 19, 2024, 11:21 a.m.

Made it for the first time today. I was curious about the buckwheat and chocolate combination since I’ve never tried ot before - amazing! Definitly cooking it again, easy to make, quickly prepared, just the right consistency. Just beautiful.
Love the step by step cooking guide with pictures, makes it a lot easier to follow the recipe without scrolling, love the built in timer aswell, huge help.

PUL Team - Jan. 20, 2024, 4:49 p.m.

Gosh, Diana, you're the best! Thanks for the glowing review and kind words about the app. The step-by-step cooking mode is definitely one of our favourite features 🙌

Maria - Jan. 11, 2024, 10:27 a.m.

This is cheating!! Tastes like a super indulgent treat, yet it's so healthy! I pureed some dates with my banana instead of using sirup and what can I say... 🤤 Perfect with some pomegranate seeds for some fruity freshness! You outdid yourselves, gals and guys ❤️

PUL Team - Jan. 11, 2024, 7:30 p.m.

Mmm love the addition of pomegranate seeds, Maria, thank you! 😃

Shayda Abidi - Jan. 10, 2024, 4:59 p.m.

Yummy! But I think I will have to 1/2 the recipe next time- I couldn't finish it!

Bianca - Jan. 10, 2024, 6:55 a.m.

I only made one portion since I haven't tried buckwheat so far and ended up eating just half of it because the kid and husband couldn't stop stealing.❤

PUL Team - Jan. 10, 2024, 7:26 a.m.

We're glad it was enjoyed by everyone, Bianca, thank you!

Jessica Fredriksson - Jan. 5, 2024, 9:44 a.m.

So good, love it!

Goshia - Dec. 14, 2023, 9:18 p.m.

I like buckwheat a lot but this wasn't good.

PUL Team - Dec. 15, 2023, 8:09 a.m.

Hey Goshia, we're sad to hear! Might you be able to share more on why you didn't love this one (was it the taste or the texture?). We'd love to help find a solution or use it as a lesson to help us improve! 🙌

Jasmin - Dec. 11, 2023, 12:49 p.m.

So chocolatey, added hemp seeds and it was delicious.

Sophie Kendall - Dec. 5, 2023, 12:47 p.m.

Huge portion but very good

Shelly De Vries - Dec. 4, 2023, 5:15 p.m.

My first time trying buckwheat and I have to admit I was skeptical, but this was fantastic!

Ana Lopes Vieira - Dec. 4, 2023, 1:19 p.m.

I had never tasted buckwheat before, and it's a lovely way to start. It's a filling breakfast, sweet and warm breakfast for those of us living and working during a cold winter somewhere. I would recommend you try!

PUL Team - Dec. 5, 2023, 9 p.m.

Aw welcome to the world of buckwheat, Ana 😎 thanks for the vote of confidence and recommendation!

Sarah - Nov. 30, 2023, 11 p.m.

Soo yummy!

Mariela Cardenas - Nov. 22, 2023, 1:17 p.m.

Perfect for chocolate lovers :)

Eszter - Nov. 2, 2023, 5:41 a.m.

Next time I'll skip the sesame seeds from the topping and maybe swap up tahini to another butter. But all in all, this is a nice variation to the almighty oatmeal. Thx!

Joanna - Sept. 13, 2023, 4:57 p.m.

I have been wanting to try it since I saw the picture and today was the day! I love it, it's as wholesome as it gets :)

PUL Team - Sept. 13, 2023, 7:25 p.m.

Woop woop! Glad it was worth the wait, Joanna 😊

Stephanie - Sept. 5, 2023, 9:52 a.m.

Love this recipe! So easy to make and super delicious 🥰 Thanks for sharing!

Sofia - Sept. 1, 2023, 7 a.m.

I loved the taste of this porridge! Not too sweet, and very filling. Definitely will cook it again but just in a smaller portion. Btw, extra thank you for so many portion size options 💙

PUL Team - Sept. 1, 2023, 6:49 p.m.

We're so happy the chocolate porridge was enjoyed, Sofia, thank you! the portion size adjuster is one of our favourite features 😎

Jeroen - Aug. 14, 2023, 8:38 a.m.

Awesome recipe! Made it a couple of times now and I really, really enjoy it! Plus it also helps me avoid my usual morning rush since it takes a bit longer time and care to make compared to just a simple sandwich. I have a more relaxing start to the day!

PUL Team - Aug. 14, 2023, 6:27 p.m.

So happy the buckwheat porridge is being enjoyed, Jeroen! Thank you 😊

Rajnandini Mukherjee - Aug. 13, 2023, 11:02 a.m.

This was my first time trying buckwheat! I didn’t have maple syrup so I used honey instead and it was really tasty! Thanks for the recipe :)

Gemma - Aug. 11, 2023, 2:03 a.m.

It's been a few months of consistently making this recipe and I have to come on here and say just how obsessed I am with this dish! It's the perfect post-workout meal and I can't get enough!

Thank you so much for sharing this. Life-changing! :D

PUL Team - Aug. 11, 2023, 5:24 a.m.

Aww we're so happy the buckwheat porridge is being enjoyed, Gemma, thank you 🤩

LC - Aug. 7, 2023, 7:31 p.m.

If you're finding this recipe difficult to digest, i.e. it makes you feel overly tired or bloated after eating, you can solve this by soaking the buckwheat in cold water for approximately 30 minutes before cooking. Add the buckwheat to your pot, fill it halfway with cold water from the tap, and then add a couple ice cubs before stirring lightly to to make sure there isn't too much buckwheat floating on the surface. Go about the rest of your morning routine, and in 30 minutes, drain the water and follow the recipe as described. In my experience, this 30 minute soak doesn't noticeably affect the cooking time.

PUL Team - Aug. 9, 2023, 2:15 p.m.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the recipe, LC! It's so appreciated 😃

Maria Veneti - Aug. 7, 2023, 10:31 a.m.

I loved it! ❤️ This is so innovative! I never thought buckwheat could be used for breakfast and be that delicious! 😀 Congrats for the idea and realization!
I was thinking.. since I have quite little time to dedicate to prepare breakfast and my saucepan, although non-stick, doesn’t react well (the milk does stick at the bottom after all no matter the temperature and it tends to expand and go all over the place if I don’t watch it carefully), could I soak the buckwheat for sometime? With water or milk? So to reduce the cooking time and the mess in the kitchen?? 😄 what do you think?

PUL Team - Aug. 7, 2023, 3:53 p.m.

Hey Maria, great question. You can indeed soak buckwheat in either water or milk overnight to help reduce the cooking time. Hopefully it helps to avoid some of the sticking :)

Maria Veneti - Aug. 7, 2023, 8:18 p.m.

Thank you for your answer! 😊 I will try it and let you know. For the soaking you would suggest the same quantities? 56grams of buckwheat with 300ml milk or water?

PUL Team - Aug. 9, 2023, 1:19 p.m.

Hey Maria, if you soak overnight you could use 56 grams of buckwheat with at least double the milk or water (closer to 150 mL) but you could also try with 300 mL if you'd like). In the morning, you can then discard the soaking liquid, rinse the groats, and cook the porridge. You'll need a bit less liquid so we'd recommend starting with around 150 mL plant milk and adding more to the desired consistency 😊

Noemi - July 28, 2023, 11:06 a.m.

Loved this recepie! Never tried buckwheat before, so I was a bit sceptical, but it turne out great. Also, I liked how easy it was to make it, since I am not at the first-name basis with cooking. :D My kids did not really enjoy 'the little balls', as they said, so I will try blending their portions next time.

PUL Team - July 30, 2023, 6:41 p.m.

Aww thanks for letting PUL be part of your culinary journey, Noemi! Happy cooking 🤗

Lizzy - July 24, 2023, 11:10 a.m.

Awesome recipe! Just Not easy to find buckwheat where i live and i have to Toast it myself :D

Nancy - July 20, 2023, 1:53 p.m.

Interesting, never thought kasha could be used for breakfast. I'm from a culture that considered kasha to be a poor people's food. Considering one small box set me back $7, I think that's changed.
I like it, I added toasted walnuts because I love the crunch. My husband agrees, this recipe is a keeper.

Sarah - July 10, 2023, 9:27 a.m.

Loved it 😍

Has anyone tried making it the night before and eating it cold? Unfortunately I rarely have time to make breakfast like this in the morning.

PUL Team - July 12, 2023, 10:27 p.m.

Ooo we haven't but will add it to our list to try, Sarah! Perhaps one idea could be to reheat it in the morning and add a little more plant milk if needed 😊

Liz - July 24, 2023, 11:11 a.m.

I did. Totally works!

Roxi - July 2, 2023, 8 p.m.

This is a game changer for me, i used to not like buckwheat before. Now i am making it for the second time for tomorrows breakfast. Last time i found the porridge a bit too thick, so now i used 1.5 cup almond milk. I also find 1 portion a bit too much for me, so i’ll have this for the next day as well.

Nams - July 1, 2023, 6:22 p.m.

One of my favorite breakfast recipes and it keeps me full straight till lunch!

Joanna - June 13, 2023, 5:48 p.m.

YUM! I just stumbled upon the YouTube video featuring this recipe, and I had to try this porridge/kasha straight away . As luck would have it, I had a packet of roasted buckwheat pulled out of the cupboard already to use up for 'something' and also a frozen banana in the fridge and cacao powder to finish...

This is sooo good! I recommend anyone to try it, especially buckwheat sceptics. This will definitely become a firm favourite for me, and I suspect for my children too. Hugs and thank you!

PUL Team - June 13, 2023, 8:05 p.m.

Super thrilled to hear, Joanna - thank you! Sending lots of hugs back 🤗

Serge - June 10, 2023, 2:19 a.m.

So sorry but i really did not liked it. I so wanted to but the taste was unpalatable to me.

PUL Team - June 10, 2023, 4:50 p.m.

Hey Serge, oh no! This is one of our favourites. Did you substitute any of the ingredients?

Amanda - June 2, 2023, 8:34 p.m.

Excellent! Makes me look forward to breakfast!

Jess - May 20, 2023, 9:43 p.m.

Hello! Can I use a different whole-grain than buckwheat groats? I would like to use spelt.

PUL Team - May 21, 2023, 8:50 p.m.

Hey Jess, we haven't tested it out but imagine you could 🙂

Katie - May 14, 2023, 9:16 p.m.

I loved this recipe, and I'm not usually a fan of tahini. I had a nearly-full jar from when a friend visited not long ago, so was searching for recipes. I'm so glad I found your site! I've played around with the recipe, too, subbing applesauce for banana, and after the tahini was gone I've tried both peanut butter and almond butter. All turned out fantastic.

PUL Team - May 15, 2023, 7:20 a.m.

Oh we're so thrilled to hear, Katie, thanks so much much 🤗

Erica - May 3, 2023, 5:26 p.m.

Teff is my usual go-to for my morning porridge, but this buckwheat porridge is a nice change. It's creamy and chewy at the same time. I like my porridge sweet so I added a couple of chopped dates as I was cooking it. It's basically dessert. I will surely make this often!

PUL Team - May 4, 2023, 3:23 a.m.

So happy it's being enjoyed, Erica, teff sounds lovely to 😃

PJ - May 3, 2023, 11:33 a.m.

This recipe converted me into an buckwheat lover. I love the chocolate taste

Gemmie - Aug. 11, 2023, 2:08 a.m.

Me too! I can't get enough! I want to eat buckwheat with everything now

Swathi - May 2, 2023, 8:34 p.m.

Hi Team, am swathi, live in melbourne, your recipes are awesome, easy to make, very tasty too. Thankyou!
Appreciate your help!

PUL Team - May 3, 2023, 2:45 a.m.

Awe thanks so much, Swathi! Hugs to Melbourne 🤗

Jana - April 2, 2023, 8:48 a.m.

So happy with this recipe! I often watch your videos and I'm always very impressed by your creativity and the effort you put in your recipes and videos.
Now I finally got to try a recipe out myself and I absolutely love the result!
Did you ever consider to publish your recipes in a book? I'm sure a lot of people would love that.
Thank you so much Pick up Limes and greetings from Switzerland <3

PUL Team - April 2, 2023, 4:27 p.m.

Aw thank you so much, Jana! Hopefully, we can share a physical cookbook in the future. In the meantime, if you're interested, you can find our 3-year anniversary e-cookbook here: https://www.pickuplimesblog.c…. Hugs to Switzerland 🤗

Emma - March 29, 2023, 10:17 a.m.

Just tried this recipe this morning with regular buckwheat (couldn't find kasha) it's delicious and so easy to make. Do happy to have found a new recipe for my breakfast 🙌❤️

PUL Team - March 30, 2023, 12:04 a.m.

So happy to hear, Emma 🤗

Ella - March 27, 2023, 11:07 p.m.

I am absolutely in love with this recipe!
Made it first about a month ago. Since then I eat your kasha porrige on Sundays morning with my Family. We prepare a bunch of it, so every of us can eat a portion on some other day.
We live in Germany, but come from Poland, where pople eat buckweat quite often - but the recipes are soooo boring. It would be great if you could make subtitels in Polish- so even older generation, that doesn't speak English, could dive into your wonderful, jummy and healthy vegan world.

Thank you very much Pick up limes! You make the world a better place😋

PUL Team - March 28, 2023, 7:18 a.m.

Oh, Ella, you're much too kind! We're so happy the recipe is being enjoyed and perhaps in the future we can explore translated content! Thank YOU for helping make our community so special 💛

Daniella - March 26, 2023, 10:42 p.m.

Beautiful dish! Especially for those who can’t eat oats. Great source of fibre protein and deliciousness😘👌

Hannah - March 24, 2023, 9:23 a.m.

I love watching your videos but I admit there are only a few recipes that I end up making myself, because I am more of an improviser in the kitchen.
For this porridge however, I saw the video went straight to the supermarket to get some buckwheat and it has become my go to breakfast when I have a bit more time in the morning ☺️
Thank you for introducing me to buckwheat as a breakfast 🙏🏼

PUL Team - March 24, 2023, 5:19 p.m.

Awe so happy the recipe was enjoyed, Hannah, thank you 💛

Neo - March 12, 2023, 9:43 a.m.

How nourishing and delicious . I add my homemade Nutella instead (from PUL) and it’s so satisfying! Thank you PUL team ❤️‍🔥

PUL Team - March 13, 2023, 4:27 a.m.

Mmm sounds lovely, Neo - thank you!

Shree - March 9, 2023, 7:20 a.m.

Liked the recipe a lot ma'am. You can make a video on Indian Dosa too.
Keep growing 🌟 Love from India😇

PUL Team - March 9, 2023, 6:06 p.m.

So glad it's being enjoyed, Shree, and thanks for the request! We've noted dosa down as an idea for the future. Hugs to India 🤗

Pam - March 8, 2023, 3:05 p.m.

Great recipe and breakfast! I added a bit more maple syrup....but that could be the Canadian in me talking 🤣

PUL Team - March 8, 2023, 7:08 p.m.

Hehe gotta love our maple syrup, Pam!

Emily - March 3, 2023, 9 a.m.

I love this recipe! I have never really enjoyed kasha, because its bitter taste which I didn’t know how to combine and make tasty dishes… I have rather preferred the raw, because its milder taste and nutrient content… However, I had more kasha on hand. So, I have tried some recipes with it, but couldn’t find something really good. And your recipe came at the right moment! Thank you very much! I really like the creamy texture and how you use the bitter taste to make something really delicious! Thank you!

PUL Team - March 3, 2023, 7:42 p.m.

So thrilled to hear, Emily - it means so much! Thank YOU 🥰

Emily - March 4, 2023, 7:07 a.m.

Ioana - March 2, 2023, 8:42 a.m.

Wow, wow, wow! this is the only thing i can say after tasting such a delicious breakfast!I did not add the maple syrup, but it was sweet enough for me just with the banana. Buckwheat is not appreciated enough nowadays :D. Thank you very much for the recipe! Amazing!

PUL Team - March 3, 2023, 5:48 p.m.

Aw so happy to hear, Ioana, thank you 🥰

Marieta - Feb. 27, 2023, 4:34 p.m.

This breakfast was delicious and very filling!
I am trying to incorporate a wider variety of whole grains in my diet but there are not many recipes of more «adventurous» grains in the net, so I was really happy to see this. And such a delicious one!!
Thank you Sadia and Team!

PUL Team - Feb. 28, 2023, 6:37 a.m.

Awe it means so much, Marieta! Hopefully, soon we can share more whole-grain recipes 🤗

C - Feb. 26, 2023, 9:12 a.m.

What an amazing recipe! Astonishing! I am ready for more buckwheat recipes!

C - Feb. 26, 2023, 9:17 a.m.

Pro Tip: cook on Sunday and save a portion for Monday morning. This way, you will have a reason to wake up on Monday morning.

PUL Team - Feb. 26, 2023, 7:53 p.m.

A lovely tip to make Monday's easier, C 😎 we hope to share more buckwheat recipes in the future!

Aleks - Feb. 23, 2023, 8:49 a.m.

LOVE THIS RECIPE!!!! I have been cooking with kasha for ages now (white and roasted one) making waffles, soups and meatballs - but breakfast!!! this was heaven:) could you tell me where do you get white kasha in NL? (I usually ask my mum for sending it from Poland... but this is an expensive endeavour) Thanks <3

Willeke - Feb. 23, 2023, 4:45 p.m.

If you want the cheapest option is to see if there is local or online windmill (zuidmolen) that sells boekweit (the white ones) if you buy in bulk it is cheaper.. Or you can go to an Islamic supermarket but the usually only sell kasha and not the white ones. The other option is to go to Ekoplaza or a healt food/reform store but that's really expensive. I am not from the team but was on the hunt for boekweit for my friends. I hope this will help you out.

Willeke - Feb. 23, 2023, 4:56 p.m.

I mean a grainmill not a windmill..

Aleks - Feb. 23, 2023, 5:47 p.m.

Thanks a lot:) i will check ekoplaza but i think they had the roasted one in the past.

Btw. Windmill remark sounded promising too.

Groetjes van Breda

PUL Team - Feb. 23, 2023, 6:50 p.m.

Hey Aleks, thanks for the kind words and question! Lovely insight too, Willeke 🥰 We tend to get our kasha from the online webshop called the de Notenshop, in case this helps :)

Charlotte - Feb. 22, 2023, 7:21 p.m.

This was my first time cooking with buckwheat (other than buckwheat flour) and it was delicious! The toppings really levelled up the bowl and I loved the addition of mashed banana. It made a tasty alternative to oats, although oats for breakfast will always be my number one! 🙈

PUL Team - Feb. 23, 2023, 6:28 p.m.

So glad it was enjoyed with the toppings, Charlotte! Oats can be hard to replace 😜

Carine - Feb. 22, 2023, 9:49 a.m.

This is great! and definitely comfort food for me which is so surprising when it comes to kasha;-) you are a magician, thanks for all the good ideas!!!

PUL Team - Feb. 23, 2023, 12:30 a.m.

Hehe awe thank you, Carine! It's always fun to enjoy a little bit of magic 😎

Vishal Khare - Feb. 20, 2023, 7:14 p.m.

Hey, I recently tried this recipe for breakfast, and I loved it. It was delicious and so filling at the same time.

Emma - Feb. 18, 2023, 11:29 p.m.

This was delicious! For breakfast or dessert!

SW - Feb. 18, 2023, 2:04 a.m.

Love how you make eating such an adventure. Another first time buckwheat person here. This was Delicious.

Celina - Feb. 16, 2023, 10:19 p.m.

Another great recipe! This was my first time having buckwheat and it was very good. I absolutely love porridge but I really loved the texture buckwheat brings compared to oats! 10/10 would recommend :-)

PUL Team - Feb. 18, 2023, 5:04 p.m.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share, Celina, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😊

Nicole - Feb. 15, 2023, 9:01 p.m.

Kinda curious but do you think the buckwheat could be substitute with barley? If not I am still kinda curious to see a breakfast recipe using barley, just an idea.

PUL Team - Feb. 18, 2023, 4:56 p.m.

Hey Nicole! We haven't tried with barley so we can't say for sure, but we'll add it to the list of grains to try out when making porridge 🤓 Thanks for the idea!

Julie - Feb. 14, 2023, 12:06 p.m.

A great suprise! It fills my love for chocolate and sweet, it is soooo satisfying. And also it makes me love hot breakfasts. I don't like oatmeal because of its mushy consistency. This one is an amazing alternative. Many thanks for this easy and delicious recipe!

PUL Team - Feb. 14, 2023, 6:19 p.m.

It means so much, Julie - thank you!

Martunia - Feb. 14, 2023, 11:13 a.m.

Not a fan of kasha, but in this recipe it actually tasted good and you can bet I will be making it tomorrow morning, too! This is such a great idea for using up all the kasha from my pantry 🙂

PUL Team - Feb. 14, 2023, 6:18 p.m.

So happy to hear, Martunia! We hope you enjoy breakfast again tomorrow 😎

Sarah - Feb. 13, 2023, 10:17 p.m.

Will definitely try this! The taste of buckwheat ususally makes me gag, but I would love to eat it more. Could you come up with more savoury recipes with buckwheat grain? Thanks <3

PUL Team - Feb. 14, 2023, 3:23 a.m.

We hope you love it, Sarah! We'll note down the request too 🤩

Ellie - Feb. 13, 2023, 9:58 p.m.

I’m the first to admit chocolate for breakfast is the last thing on my mind. I only try this recipe because I wanted to use the buckwheat in the back of my cupboard but I’m glad I did! This tastes like the chocolate custard and ice cream my mum made when we were kids. The best bit is that I didn’t feel hungry for ages.

PUL Team - Feb. 14, 2023, 3:23 a.m.

Awe love the personal connection to the recipe, Ellie, and so glad it was a satisfying breakfast!

Johanna - Feb. 12, 2023, 1:16 p.m.

I tried it without the cocoa powder and added some blueberries and I loved it! Thanks for this great recipe :)

PUL Team - Feb. 12, 2023, 10:03 p.m.

Oooo that sounds delicious, Johanna! Thank you as well 😊

Flavia - Feb. 12, 2023, 12:33 p.m.

This is so good! I cannot stop making this :D

Samia - Feb. 12, 2023, 12:15 p.m.

Hi Sadia,

Thank you for sharing this delicious Chocolate Banana Buckwheat Porridge. I’ve tried it this morning and it was soooooo yummy 😋 🥰

PUL Team - Feb. 12, 2023, 10 p.m.

Woohoo 😃 Thank you, Samia!

Jessica - Feb. 12, 2023, 10:02 a.m.

Loved this porridge as a weekend treat, I added some cherry jam as a topping :)

Karmen - Feb. 12, 2023, 2:54 a.m.

Dear Sadia,

Is the result the same if I roast the desired amount of buckwheat on the stove right before cooking it with the milk?

Thanks for yummy recipes and high quality videos ;)

PUL Team - Feb. 12, 2023, 6:19 p.m.

Hey Joseph, yes you can definitely toast your own buckwheat! For stove: toast it on a dry skillet over medium heat for 4-5 minutes until golden, stirring throughout. For oven, roast the groats on a baking tray in an oven at 325°F (160°C) for about 25 minutes, stirring once halfway.
I hope this helps! 🤗

Andromahi - Feb. 11, 2023, 4:54 p.m.

This looked so good I had to make it straight away even though I had almond milk and cacao powder instead of soy and cocoa. It worked really well also, keeping this in my weekend breakfast rotation!

PUL Team - Feb. 11, 2023, 11:43 p.m.

So glad to hear, Andromahi, thank you!

Anita - Feb. 11, 2023, 7:25 a.m.

I just tried out this recipe - it is incredibly tasty! The consistence did not really work out, I will try to put less milk next time so that it won't be too liquid ;) By the way I can't wait for the Android version of your app to launch! :D I wanted to ask if the contents of the app and the blog will be the same or will there be some differences? Will the app be available for free? Thank you again for the inspiration to the whole PUL team <3

PUL Team - Feb. 11, 2023, 10:33 p.m.

Hey Anita, so glad the recipe taste was enjoyed and thanks so much for your interest in the PUL App! For the consistency of this one, did you remove the pot from the heat and cover it with a lid for 5 minutes as described in step 3? We wouldn't recommend skipping this step to help the Kasha absorb remaining extra moisture 🙂

We're confident the wait for the android version of the app will be worth it too! We plan to have exclusive content on the App and are in the works of figuring out the best model to offer our content on the App. We hope it can be accessible to as many people as possible 🤗

katie - Feb. 11, 2023, 4:45 a.m.

pranked my partner with this today 😎 they didnt expect buckwheat to be sweet and served as porridge. turned out fluffy and delicious! just a bit weird after eating buckwheat for dinner my whole life. by the way beware 2 portions in the recipe makes 3

PUL Team - Feb. 11, 2023, 9:55 p.m.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the porridge, Katie, it's so appreciated 🙂

Agata - Feb. 10, 2023, 1:06 p.m.

This was my breakfast today. I was out of plant based milk, so I replaced it with water. Still - it was great breakfast, I will surely try it one more time. As celiac with oat alergy I really appreciate this option :)

PUL Team - Feb. 10, 2023, 9:53 p.m.

A lovely modification, Agata - and we're so glad it was enjoyed!

Pablo - Feb. 10, 2023, 9:34 a.m.

Looks delish! One question: does the nutrition info include optional toppings or it covers the main ingredients only? I’ve started to pay a closer attention to my dietary intake so such information would be much appreciated :)

PUL Team - Feb. 10, 2023, 8:27 p.m.

Hi Pablo, thanks for the question! The nutrition information in this recipe includes the toppings 🙂

Generally, toppings listed without a portion size on our website are excluded from the nutrient estimates. For example, the tortilla chips in our Sweet Potato Spiced Chili recipe here:…

Kirsten - Feb. 10, 2023, 3:27 a.m.

i am so excited to try this recipe! i've had a jar of buckwheat just waiting to be used for months now so this post couldn't have come at a better time. i love that i can always rely on pick up limes to teach me how to use up an ingredient lying at home.

PUL Team - Feb. 10, 2023, 7:11 a.m.

Awe thank you, Kirsten, it means so much! Happy cooking 🤗

Carolina - Feb. 9, 2023, 9:40 p.m.

Looks absolutely delicious!! Have to try it!

PUL Team - Feb. 9, 2023, 11:16 p.m.

Do let us know how it goes if you're able to give it a try, Carolina 😃

Kasia - Feb. 9, 2023, 6:30 p.m.

I thought kasha was only known in Eastern Europe. I will definitely try this recipe. love your recipes. Regards Kasia not Kasha 😉

Hehe close spelling to Kasha 😎 we hope you enjoy the recipe, Kasia!
