French toast can make any morning feel extra special! Pile these slices high with your favourite toppings, and gobble away. This recipe is naturally made without eggs or nuts, and can be easily gluten-free too.
Add all of the batter ingredients to a wide, shallow bowl. Whisk well.
Preheat a large pan on medium-high heat with a bit of oil.
Dip the slices of bread into the mixture, letting it soak for a few seconds before flipping and covering the other side. Let the excess batter drip off, or wipe off if needed.
Place the soaked slices onto the frying pan, and let it cook for 2 - 3 minutes, until golden, before flipping. Repeat on the second side.
Flip again to crisp the outside further, another minute or so on each side. Add more oil as needed between batches.
Remove from the pan and serve with your favourite toppings. Enjoy!
Notes
†Stale bread is preferred, otherwise the toasts get too soggy, especially in the middle.

We used a multi-grain bread with a hard crust and whole seeds and nuts (which gave it some crunch) and added a tsp of vanilla.
So… good!

Hi Fran, so glad that you're enjoying the app. We haven't tried freezing this recipe so we can't say with certainty, but we imagine you could. Just be sure to let it cool before freezing, and perhaps warm it up in a toaster or on the stove before enjoying it to help it crisp up 😊

This was my first French toast ever. It got more wobbly than expected (I tough it would become more crispy?) but was very tasty and interesting to chew altogether 😅 I used thawed bread - maybe it need to be fresh. I'll try it 😊

They are not meant to be crispy and old bread is the best. The french called this Pain perdu, which translates to "wasted bread" :)

French Toast was my favorite dish as a kid. I haven’t prepared it in a really long time, because I didn’t know a good vegan recipe. I really loved this one! With the yogurt it is creamy, the toast tastes like a warm hug and the berries give the dish a delicious lightness.

Yummy recipe, and it is amazing that this luxurious breakfast is not difficult to make. I used slices of walnut bread that was great: the pieces of walnuts gave a nice extra crunch in addition to the fried crust😋 I used oat beverage in the batter, and I served my toasts with coconut yoghurt and strawberry jam.
This recipe reminds me so much of the Swedish counterpart called ‘fattiga riddare’, normally eaten as a dessert, which I ate during my childhood. Great walk along the memory lane at breakfast😂

Hey there, Priyanka, you can replace the flax seeds with ground chia seeds. You could also omit them altogether, but the batter may not stick to the toast as nicely. We hope you enjoy the recipe if you give it a try 😊
