I love these! Hope my colleagues will enjoy them too at the bbq we're having this afternoon. Next time I'm going to add in some chopped walnuts for extra crunch and healthiness. Oh and maybe some orange zest, yummm

It's a little unclear in the directions, but I'm assuming it's 1/4c dry quinoa and that will make like a cup cooked.

I make these types of snacks for my son to haveion hand and keep them in the freezer. And I did make it 1/4c dry and took a little bit extra blending but he loved them! Here in California I couldn't find the puffed quinoa so i had to order on the dreaded amazon

Heyy Jacqui, thanks so much for sharing this! For the unscaled recipe (21 balls), this one uses ½ cup dry quinoa ☺️ the quinoa can then be cooked according to the package instructions in step one.

In case it helps with the puffed quinoa, you might have some luck checking the organic or natural foods aisle at larger grocery stores, or perhaps health food shops. We've never tried to make it ourselves, but after having done some digging online, it seems you can make it yourself, similar to popping popcorn! Otherwise, the puffed quinoa coating is optional, or use another coating you like. Happy snacking to you and your son 🫶✨

I've just done this, and it worked great! It's very much like popcorn, minus the oil. And keep an eye on it or you risk burning it all. I used 3 colored quinoa. The result tastes a bit like coffee, very delicious!

So I always toast my quinoa before cooking. It gets rid of that grassy flavor and makes it more nutty. And it is not the same as the puffed quinoa. The puffed is puffed lol. It's the difference with rice crispies and toasting rice on the pan before you cook it.

I love it, my friends loved them. Will definetly add them to my own little recipe booklet to keep doing them. And so easy to make :) THANK YOU for the inspiration.

Delicious and kid approved 👍 But there are a few things to note: it will be sticky, but I added some almond flour and that helped. Let the quinoa cool down as much as you can before blending it or it’ll melt the chocolate. Finally, using a multicolored quinoa works but the black ones might be crunchy.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with this one, UmmAli! It's always a big compliment when recipes are kid-approved ☺️

Perfect to satisfy a chocolate-y craving! (Extra happy with it for being so healthy for a sweet snack and for incorporating quinoa which I almost never use otherwise.)

Yayy we're so thrilled the bliss balls were enjoyed, Firebolt, thank you 🤗

Hi PUL team! Where do you buy puffed quinoa? I'm in the US and I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find it - thanks! Also, would there be a way to make this myself?

PUL small logo PUL Team - March 25, 2026, 3:35 p.m.

Hi there, Vallen! We usually get puffed quinoa from our local grocery store, Albert Heijn, or from an online shop called de Notenshop. We realize this isn’t very helpful in the US, but you might have some luck checking the organic or natural foods aisle at larger grocery stores, or even health food shops. We've never actually tried to make it ourselves, but after having done some digging online, it seems you can make it yourself, similar to popping popcorn (will have to give this a try myself one day!). Heat a dry pan over medium to medium-high heat, then add a small amount of rinsed and fully dried quinoa in a single layer. You don’t need to cover the pan. Let it pop for a few seconds while lightly shaking the pan, and remove it from the heat once the popping slows. I imagine it won’t be quite as airy or uniform as store-bought puffed quinoa, but might still be nice. Otherwise, the puffed quinoa coating is optional, or use another coating you like ☺️

Nuts.com has "organic quinoa puffs" and is available in the US.
