I need to know, do they taste like coconut? Because knowing (and loving) the original I don't think I could handle that...

Heyy Elisabeth :) That’s a very fair question. In my opinion, they don't taste strongly of coconut. I suppose if you pay attention, it is there mindly of course, but even people who love the original tend to be pleasantly surprised by how familiar these taste. I think the coconut taste mellows out a fair bit once compbined with things like the vanilla, cinnamon, puff pastry, etc. But of course, tastes can vary, so if you do decide to give it a go, I'm curious what you think of it. Do let us know!

Wow! Absolutely magnificent. I am without words. I made my own puff pastry with 4 ingredients (I find that store-bought puff pastry has too many unnecessary ingredients..) and the first two I've tasted after letting them cooling down a bit (custard still warm) were delicious!!!!!!!! So easy to make too. Unbelievable. Saves me trips to Portugal. Hahaha!

Waauw you’re amazing, Eirini, thanks for the glowing review! Homemade puff pastry makes it extra special, and we love that it brought a taste of Portugal right to your kitchen 😍

It seems delicious, I love pastel de nata and can't wait to try it. But is there a way to achieve similar results without the pie weights/beans step? It doesn't have to look the same, just taste the same😋

Hey Panagiota! You can skip the pie weights by pricking the base of each pastry cup with a fork a few times to help prevent too much puffing. Once you're ready to fill, simply press down the centre gently with your fingers. They won't hold their shape quite as neatly, but the flavour will still be delish! Let us know if you test it out 😊

Thank you for the suggestion, it worked really well!
