When you are craving a sweet treat, this recipe is perfect as it comes together quickly. They are made with simple ingredients like flour and vegan Greek yogurt. They are cooked in the air fryer. We loved them on their own, but you can pair them with some vegan butter or jam.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1¼ cups (170g)
    all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp (25g)
    granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp (4.5g)
    baking powder
  • ⅛ tsp
    salt
  • ½ cup (130g)
    unsweetened soy yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp (15ml)
    unsweetened soy milk
  • 4
    spritzes of cooking oil spray

Coating

  • ⅓ cup (65g)
    granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp (2.5g)
    ground cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp (43g)
    unsalted vegan butter, melted

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the yogurt and milk and combine with a spoon.
  3. Gently bring the dough together into a ball with your hands, avoiding any kneading. The dough will be very soft; if it feels too sticky, add a small amount of flour as needed.
  4. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each one into a small ball*.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (180°C)**. Place the dough balls inside and lightly spray them with oil.
  6. Cook for 10 - 12 minutes, or until the dough balls are lightly golden***.
  7. Meanwhile, combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  8. Melt the butter in a separate small bowl. Once cooked and while still warm, dunk the balls into the melted butter.
  9. Then coat with sugar and cinnamon mixture. Enjoy!

Notes

  • * The original unscaled recipe makes 8 donut holes in total.
  • ** If baking in the oven instead, line a baking tray and preheat to the same temperature using the fan setting rather than conventional top–bottom heat.
  • *** If using an oven, bake for 18 - 20 minutes in total, or until lightly golden.

Storage

  • Best to enjoy the day they are made as they tend to get hard with time.

Can we do oven? I don’t have air fryer. Thank you

Heyy Evie, yup, you can use an oven! If you're baking instead, line a baking tray and preheat to the same temperature using the fan setting rather than conventional top–bottom heat. Bake for around 18 to 20 minutes in total, or until lightly golden, and keep a close eye toward the end so they don’t burn.

In case it helps for future air fryer recipes, we list the baking alternatives in the "directions" tab and in grey text within the "Make" feature. Hope you love the donut recipe if you try it out ☺️

Okay to use whole wheat flour?

PUL small logo PUL Team - Jan. 8, 2026, 5:32 p.m.

Heyy Isha! Hmm you could try replacing the all-purpose flour with wheat flour, but we haven’t tested it ourselves, so it’s hard to say exactly how it will turn out. All-purpose flour is a bit lighter and has a slightly different protein content than whole wheat flour, so the dough might be a bit denser/drier. If you decide to experiment, we’d suggest swapping half of the flour first to see how you like the taste and texture, then adjust from there based on how you like it. Hope this helps for now ☺️

Absolutely delicious!

Mine turned out really dense. Any tips to give them a fluffy texture?

PUL small logo PUL Team - Jan. 2, 2026, 11:43 p.m.

Hey Travis, thanks for making the donut holes and for sharing your experience. If they turned out dense, the most common culprit is overworking the dough. Ideally, the dough should be mixed just until it comes together and not kneaded, as kneading develops gluten and leads to a tougher texture. A couple of other things to check: make sure your baking powder is fresh, and try to measure the flour by spooning it into the cup and levelling it off (or better yet, weigh it out), as too much flour can also make them heavy. Lastly, stopping the air fryer as soon as they’re lightly golden helps keep them soft and fluffy inside. I hope these tips help in case you give it another go!

Hey Sue! Thanks for your interest in the recipe 🙂 We only use plant-based products here, so we can't say with certainty. We hope you enjoy the air fryer donuts if you're able to give them a try✨
