If fresh, delectable buns are what you're after, this recipe won't disappoint. With no yeast required, there's no need to wait for them to rise. Dress them up to your liking; we opted for a savoury touch with hummus, pesto, and cherry tomatoes, though a simple spread of vegan butter and jam would be equally divine.

Awesome and wonderfully quick solution when you crave bread rolls and need them IMMEDIATELY!
I add a bit less salt to mine (I'm not using self-raising flour) and then roll them in a mixture of oats, chia seeds, flaxseeds and sunflower seeds before putting them in the oven. Also works super well with half buckwheat/half regular flour or other variations.
Wonderfully versatile recipe 😍

So glad you’re enjoying the recipe, Maria, love the seed crust idea and your flour swaps sound delicious! Thanks for sharing your twist 😍

Can I use normal flour with yeast added? We don't have self rising flour where I live 😕
PUL Team - May 13, 2025, 5:41 p.m.
Hey Christina, we haven’t tested the recipe with yeast, so we wouldn't recommend it. Self-rising flour relies on quick-acting leavening (baking powder) to rise during baking, while yeast needs time to ferment and rise before baking.
Instead of self-rising flour, you can try mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour with 3 tsp of baking powder and ½ tsp of salt. Alternatively, our "Brioche Buns" recipe uses yeast, so that could be an alternative recipe to consider 🥰

I use the recipe but made mine in shapes like bagels, then boiled & baked them it’s amazing

Hi PUL-team, I wonder if you can use gluten-free flour for this recipe 🤔 What do you think? 🤓
PUL Team - March 21, 2025, 3:26 p.m.
Hey Stephanie, we haven't tried so we can't say with confidence! We imagine it will take some experimenting. In the meantime, we'll add gluten-free buns to our list of future recipe ideas to explore 💛

Hey, Thanks for the reply. I am looking forward to the gluten-free option for when you have gluten-sensitive guests and what to spoil them a little bit 🤗. In the meantime I‘ll make the original ones for myself 😋

Awesome! Yummy, fluffy, rich :-) Quick and easy. I hadn't finished my morning tea when they were already ready.
Used all-purpose flour and 2 tsp of baking powder, 1/2 tsp of salt.

Could you give an alternative to selfrising flour, please? It's not really a thing in Germany... So how much flour and baking powder would that be?
PUL Team - Dec. 21, 2024, 3:51 p.m.
Hi Joopy! We haven't tested the recipe with this, but generally, the sub for self-rising flour is to replace 2 cups (250 g) of self-rising flour, use 2 cups (250 g) of all-purpose flour, 3 tsp of baking powder, and ½ tsp of salt. Just be sure to mix these ingredients together before using them in the recipe 😊

Thank you!

I made half the recipe by mixing the substitutes of all purpose flour, baking powder and salt. The final dough was really dry and didn't work. I'll try it again another time .
