Preheat the oven to 320Β°F (160Β°C) and lightly grease a 12 x 5 inch (30 x 13 cm) loaf pan*.
In a large bowl, mix the flax seeds and water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it gels, mixing once halfway through.
Once the flaxseeds have gelled, add the bananas and mash until well combined.
Then add the sugar, oil, applesauce, vanilla, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder. Stir well.
Add the flour next, and gently mix until partly combined.
Lastly, add the chocolate (reserve some to sprinkle on top) and fold in until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle on the reserved chocolate.
Bake on the middle rack of the oven until the top is golden, the bread starts to pull away from the sides, and a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean, which will take about 40 minutes**.
Allow to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool further. Slice, serve, and enjoy!
Notes
* Or use a 9 x 5 inch (23 x 13 cm) loaf pan.
** If using a 9 x 5 inch (23 x 13 cm) loaf pan, increase the cooking time to closer to 50 minutes.

Oh my, oh my how good this is π€€ best bananabread ever, and i have made a few in the past years, let me tell ya, and none were as good as yours. This recipe is a keeper just like you guys β€οΈ you never dissapoint. π
PUL Team - April 13, 2024, 4:22 a.m.
Aww thank you dearest, Tina π₯° our community wouldn't be the same without you!
This is the best banana bread recipe ever! I subbed raisins for chocolate and used date sugar and whole grain flour. Next time will sub extra applesauce for the oil. So good!
This bread is so good. We didnβt have apple sauce and just skipped it. And instead of chocolate we added cranberries and nuts. Because my boyfriend doesnβt like chocolate! Next time we will add more nuts. It suits this recipe very well.
PUL Team - March 19, 2024, 8:20 p.m.
Hey Deborah, aw so glad that the banana bread was enjoyed and a lovely idea to add more nuts! π
Having this recipe twice in one week. My 1.5 year old son absolutely loved this! He is allergic to so many things and that you made a recipe for banana bread he can actually eat brings me such joy and relief! Definitely recommend β₯οΈ
PUL Team - March 10, 2024, 6:19 p.m.
Awe we're so thrilled to hear this, Hope, thank you! Sending lots of love to you and your little one π
I put some hazelnuts shopped into the cake with some gingerpowder en i put the half of the granulaat sugar with the chai mix. So the cake becomes spicy and very tastfull.
I used a bit less sugar (frankly because I ran out), but still very delicious. Also, I made them into 6 big muffins instead of a loaf, so I increased the temp to 350F and baked for 30 minutes. Yum!
PUL Team - Feb. 5, 2024, 6:58 a.m.
So glad the recipe was enjoyed, GenesisH, thanks for sharing your experience with it!
I did not have the applesauce so I added 30g oil extra and that looked liquid enough for me. I love nut so I used both pecan and walnuts and less chocolate. The flavour and texture was good, with the same dough I made cupcakes (35min baking time) and they were fluffy :) The bread took over 1h to bake though.
I just made it. I put white chocolate inside ( i m vegetarian ) and i divided the dough in 2 and i put cacao in one part. Its turn out more than delicious .
alice - Jan. 20, 2024, 11:04 p.m.
okay, i'm trying it now ! ;p With half-60% sugar of course ;)
Hey Yolande, our website and mobile App are only available in English at this time. Some users have reported positive experiences with platforms such as Google Translate's Website Translator in case it helps though π€
The only banana bread I make anymore, and I'm not even vegan. I love how flexible it is in terms of swaps and general tweaking of the proportions, results have always been good. I generally play around with the flours I use. 50/50 AP and rye is a favourite. I never have apple sauce on hand, so I swap it for fresh apples grated on the fine setting of a box grater.
PUL Team - Dec. 5, 2023, 12:51 a.m.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the banana bread, Julie, we're so thrilled it's being enjoyed with the substitutions π€
Almost every time I make this banana bread I get asked for the recipe. It is a huge hit with friends and colleagues. I sometimes double the amount of chocolate and that is tasty, too.
PUL Team - Dec. 1, 2023, 2:09 a.m.
Oh we're so thrilled that the banana bread is being enjoyed, Quynh, thanks so much! π₯°β¨
I made a miso banana bread by replacing the chocolate and salt with 2 tbsp of white (sweet) miso paste and increased the sugar levels by 1/4 cup to counteract the saltiness. Works well!
Hi want to make this for my baby first birthday. How can I replace the sugar and the oil best?
PUL Team - Nov. 5, 2023, 9:38 p.m.
Best wishes on your little one's first birthday! To substitute sugar, additional pureed bananas or dates could be a good choice. You might also increase the applesauce to replace the oil. We haven't tested these changes though, so do keep in mind the final taste and texture will be different from what the recipe suggests. I hope this helps! π₯³
Hey everyone, This is awesome. Quick and easy. Made my own apple sauce recently because the shops were closed. I've Made this bananabread three times during the last month using my roommates leftover bananas!!! They loooved it;) I have suspicions they leave them for the bananabread on purpose!!! Best wishes
PUL Team - Sept. 14, 2023, 7 p.m.
Leaving leftover bananas is a sneaky strategy for banana bread π so happy the recipe is being enjoyed, Lisa, and sending lots of love to Kleve!
Absolutely love this. Tastes so good! You mentioned it could be frozen for a month which is perfect because thereβs no way I canβt eat the whole thing in 2 days. Should I slice it before I freeze it? If so do you put anything between the slices? Any tips on storage containers for frozen items in general? Whatβs the best way to defrost the bread? I just want to make it last because itβs so yummy!
PUL Team - Sept. 7, 2023, 11:49 p.m.
Hey Colette, yes we'd recommend slicing the banana bread before freezing the slices in an airtight container. You can place parchment paper between the slices to prevent sticking if you'd like. You can then let the slice thaw on the countertop, though heating it up will speed up the process and add a nice warmth. For example, in the microwave for around 30 seconds, toasted in a toaster, or in the oven π
As a self-proclaimed banana bread enthusiast, Iβve tried many a recipe, and this one takes the cakeβ¦er, the quickbread? I followed the recipe with two minor changesβI swapped the oil with vegan butter, and swapped the chocolate for 1/4 cup each of chopped walnuts and pecans . The combination of mashed banana, flax egg, applesauce and vegan butter made the crumb so tender. I baked the bread in a 9x5 loaf pan for 75 min, cooled for an hour, then cut it into eight thick slices. I plan on giving some away and freezing the rest in a container, separating each slice with a piece of parchment so they donβt stick together. Iβm sure this would be marvelous with a smear of vegan butter and a drizzle of maple. Will definitely be making this again!
Great recipe! I've turned it into a marbled banana bread by dividing the batter in half and adding 2 tbsp of cacao powder to one half and that's pretty good as well π Plus I enjoy to finger lick what's left of the chocolate batter π
I made this yesterday and it was soo tasty. My husbsnd was soo surprised. Thank you for always inspiring healthy cooking. My stomach gets really bloated with all purpose flour...any tips what else i can use.
PUL Team - July 30, 2023, 9:08 p.m.
Hey Nalini, so glad the banana bread was enjoyed! We've heard positive reviews for using oat flour, buckwheat flour, spelt flour, gluten-free flour blends, and whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour in case it helps. Hugs to Bangalore π€
I have made this couple of times now and all my family and friends love love love it! I think it's my power recipe now, I'm loving it. The things that I changed are that I didn't use applesauce the first time as I didn't have any at home, I'm not a fan of cinnamon so I left that one out as well, and instead of vanilla extract I used vanilla protein powder, but cut out the 3/4 cups of flower. Even like this, the banana bread is amazing. Keep up the good work, you are also amazing at what you are doing <3
PUL Team - July 22, 2023, 2:30 a.m.
So thrilled the banana bread is being enjoyed, Sofija, and thanks for sharing the modifications! You're the sweetest π
Delicious! I made βdonutsβ out of them, easy to grab for the kids and me ofcourse. I made regular size and miniβs and they perfect for when I am having my cup of coffee.
PUL Team - July 14, 2023, 9:04 p.m.
What a cute idea! Thanks a bunch for taking the time to share, AΓ―cha π
I've made this recipe numerous times and it always turns out great! I tried swapping out the cinnamon for ginger this time and it's also really good. I serve it with plain soya yoghurt and some berries, delicious!
PUL Team - July 14, 2023, 1:19 a.m.
Oooo ginger sounds delicious! Thank you, Helen, sending lots fo love to the UK π₯°
Such a comforting desert, perfect with a cup of tea of coffee! I omitted the dairy free chocolate however, so itβs a bit less sweet than I would normally gravitate towards- May taste good with some honey or maple syrup however!
Hi Prachi, oil generally makes a good substitute for applesauce, such as 1/4 cup coconut oil for 9 slices. More mashed bananas, plant-based Greek yogurt, or another pureed fruit, such as pears or sweet potato, are some other ideas that may be fun to experiment with π
Can i add coconut oil in this recipe instead of vegetable oil.
PUL Team - June 29, 2023, 11:01 p.m.
Hey Prachi, we've heard some positive reviews with coconut oil! We'd recommend refined coconut oil if you donβt want too much coconut taste/aroma. If it solidifies in contact with the colder ingredients, stirring it to naturally warm it should help as well π€
So good! I made this thinking Iβd have a slice and freeze the rest. But it was so good I just had to share it with others (and eat a second slice!) and now itβs gone. Everyone loved it! Next time I think Iβll make 2 loaves.
This is so delicious! I had some ripe bananas to use up, so it was the perfect recipe. I used Nomo orange chocolate and pear puree instead of the apple sauce and it turned out exactly like the photos. So easy to make and so very, very tasty. Thank you for the lovely recipes.
A go to recipe when we have 3 bananasπ laying around and no one wants to eat them. Which happens quite often BTW. Definitely a crowd pleaser. Thank you for the recipeπ
A more artistic way of presenting a recipe to be sure but I like watching you and listening to you as you cook. It is more personal.

Hi! Just wanted to check if substituting applesauce with honey would work in this recipe?
PUL Team - May 8, 2023, 5:06 p.m.
Hi Tanvi! Since we only use plant-based products here at PUL we haven't tested it out, but we hope you enjoy the banana bread if you're able to give it a tryβΊοΈ
This is our family absolute favorite! Love the softness, the taste, the textureβ¦ there is only one problem: it always disappears too quickly ππ
I loved it and my family did as well. I would lower the amount of sugar next time, especially when using pretty ripe and sweet bananas. But that is just my personal taste, best try it out for yourself.
Absolutely delicious! Couldn't believe that after 4 days it was still moist and fluffy (it was an experiment, there's no way it could stay uneaten this long without that purpous :D) I even tried it with gluten free flour and thanks to the flaxed egg it worked really well. I used GF flour mix but also just buckwheat flour and my family almost didn't notice, so thank you so much for this unbelievebly simple and great recepie! <3
This was delicious and very easy to make. Love having the simplicity of one bowl recipes to make late night cooking so much easier!! I never thought making banana bread without an egg would taste so good!!
I've made this recipe several times now (as muffins instead of a loaf) and they have been a hit with the people I shared them, every single time. Such a great banana bread recipe! Can 100% recommend. And to make them into muffins I simply baked them less. About 20-25 minutes.
This is my all time favorite! Its sooo good, dense and sweet, but not too sweet. Everytime I bake it, one of my friends or family members asks for the recipe. Literally everytime!!! I just love it :)
PUL Team - Feb. 18, 2023, 5:05 p.m.
It's one of my absolute favourites as well, so glad it's being enjoyed by you and the friends/family - thanks so much for sharing it with them, Owl! π€
Top tip: sprinkle some crushed walnuts or cacao nibs on the top before baking for an extra crunch. Takes this already amazing banana bread to the next level!
I remember watching this the first time it posted and have retuned to make this bread more times than I can count. I had to smile watching the video for the millionth time, at how far you've come from filming in your apartment, the teaspoon measurements in actual teaspoons, tiny oven and no audio. From a long time fan and follower, congratulations on all your success, Sadia. And many thanks for this, and so many other wonderful recipes. Cheers!

Aw, Izzi, you're too kind! Many thanks to YOU for sticking around and helping make the PUL community so incredible π
This recipe is my husband's favorite. I am doing it already for more than 3 years! we love it. I am trying to play a bit with the sugar content, once I have a 1-year-old daughter and we are therefore eating less sugar.

My absolute favourite banana bread recipe! I don't think I'll ever grow tired of it, it's so moist and just tastes perfect :) I usually share it with friends and family, but am currently all by myself, so I've put it in the freezer to last me an entire month! I was wondering if there are any steps to take when taking a piece out of the freezer? Do I just have to let it thaw or would it be best to put a slice in the oven for a bit? Thank you so much in advance!
PUL Team - Nov. 4, 2022, 1:38 a.m.
Hey Kim, such a big compliment, thank you! You can let the slice thaw on the countertop, though heating it up will speed up the process and adds a nice warmth. For example, in the microwave for around 30 seconds, toasted in a toaster, or in the oven π
Just made this today⦠my first PUL recipe. So. Yummy. I will definitely make this again. I think the texture is what made this recipe stand out for me. It was moist and light. I have been enjoying your channel very much. Thanks Sadia for a delicious treat.

Hi Tanvi! We haven't personally tried it, but Ana-Claudia left a positive review with spelt flour. We hope you enjoy the recipe If you give it a try π
This was the first recipe I made when I went vegan a few years ago. It tastes incredibly delicious and I have shared it many times with friends and family and they all liked it. This recipe has a real emotional value for me :-). Thank you Sadia!

Absolutely delicious recipe! Highly recommend it to everyone. Thank you so much Pick-Up-Limes, for all the incredible inspirations and cooking ideas, really enjoying this website and watching your YouTube videos :)
I absolutely love bananas so I had tried a LOT of different banana bread & banana bread recipes but never have I been so satisfied with the result as today, following the PUL recipe. π It has everything you want from banana bread and its fluffiness is perfect! Definitely my new go-to recipe, thanks!

Such a massive compliment, Adel, thank you for the glowing feedback! π
I've been making this recipe for years and it has never disappointed me ! Thanks for the delicious recipe and for all the hard work you put into Pick Up Limes and this (amazing) website, it has taught me a lot about vegan cooking !
PUL Team - Aug. 31, 2022, 5:13 p.m.
Woohoo! Aw it means so much, Irene, thank you for helping make the PUL community so special π
Hiii Iβm wanting to make this recipe but all I have are three 8in.x 3 7/8in.x 2 15/32in. (20.3cm x 9.8cm x 6.3cm) would I still be able to use these to put it in?
PUL Team - Aug. 28, 2022, 7:51 p.m.
Hey Riah, you can use 8 x 4 inch (20 x 10 cm) pans if desired. Since these pans hold less, you could half the recipe to start for the first try. We'd also recommend turning up the oven just a tad and keeping a closer eye on the loaf as it will bake quickerπ
Riah - Aug. 31, 2022, 3:08 a.m.
Thank You So So Much it turned out fantastic!! π I made this for my family and it was a big hit everyone love it, so delicious!! π
THE BEST banana bread ever!!! All of my friends and work colleagues that have tried it - really loved it and kept asking what recipe I used. I always come back to this recipe and it never fails. It is perfect as afternoon snack in the office, but when enjoyed at home - I love to add some nut butter on top when served and some extra maple syrup :) Thank you so much for creating this recipe - it is often used and recommended to others <3
PUL Team - Aug. 23, 2022, 8:42 p.m.
Oh, Jasmina - you're the best! We're smiling from ear to ear because of your glowing review. Thank you π
Hi, thank you for this delicious recipe. What can I use instead if I am out of flaxseed ? An egg? Thank you π
PUL Team - Aug. 21, 2022, 5:49 p.m.
Hey there, Rita! Thanks for the question. Ground chia seeds can be substituted in place of the flax seeds. The seeds and water can also possibly be substituted for Β½ a ripe mashed banana or ΒΌ- Β½ cup of another pureed fruit such as unsweetened applesauce. Since we only use plant-based products here at PUL we haven't tested it out with an egg, but we hope you enjoy the banana bread if you're able to give it a tryβΊοΈ
This recipe is a hit in our home. My dad particularly loves it! I have tried this lovely recipe a lot of times now, but this time I skipped the chocolate, added a little more cinnamon and added in some chopped almonds. Came out equally delicious! Thank you for the recipe Sadia β€οΈ
This recipe is superb! I did use a 9x5 so it took more like 60 minutes to bake until the toothpick came out dry, but it was entirely worth it! i do use a scale so I really appreciate the measurements in grams/ml. Thank you!
PUL Team - July 6, 2022, 9:11 p.m.
We're so happy to hear, Vicky! Thanks for the insight and kind words π€
This is a lovely recipe! Bread came out with such a gorgeous moist texture :)
Made a few modifications - and they turned out well!
was a bit worried would be too sweet with apple sauce and v ripe bananas in already so decided to leave out the sugar. I did have two dates hanging around in the cupboard, however, so I chopped them up fine added those! Turned out super well but I think next time I would either throw in 1-2 more dates or add 1/4 of the sugar in the recipe (I know itβs hard to gauge one sweet tooth against anotherβ¦ but just an fyi for anyone worried recipe will be too sweet for them)
I also left out the chocolate because I didnβt have any, and used wholemeal flour as that was all I had in the house (I donβt think it is super wholegrain though, this was quite cheap Dutch wholemeal flour and is way more βwhiteβ looking than say Irish whole-wheat flour). I was worried it might be too dense because of this but I think it worked really well and made the texture a bit moister/interesting!
PUL Team - June 6, 2022, 8:44 p.m.
Oh, Jules, thanks a bunch for taking the time to share the modifications! It's so appreciated and insightful. We're so happy the banana bread was enjoyed π€
Is there a substitution for the chocolate chips, sorry but I don't like them .
PUL Team - June 6, 2022, 8:36 p.m.
Hey there, Sandra, we've heard positive reviews with omitting the chocolate chips. You could also substitute it for nuts, such as walnuts or almonds, seeds or dried fruit if desired π
Hi! Quick question, what is the substitute for applesauce if we can't get our hands on them? Really look forward to making this recipe!
PUL Team - May 16, 2022, 6:50 p.m.
Hey Erica, you could substitute the applesauce for equal parts of neutral vegetable oil. We've heard some positive reviews with coconut oil. Do let us know if you give it a try π
Natalia - Feb. 6, 2023, 9:01 p.m.
I peel and chop one fresh apple and add it to a blender with the bananas to turn it into kind of an apple sauce. Works every time!
Swapped the sugar out for 50% less brown sugar. It was still really good and sweet enough for me! Also swapped out applesauce for vegetable oil (after seeing recommendations here). I don't have a loaf tin, I used a square pan instead. Also used convection on my microwave. Turned out perfect. Thought something would go wrong for sure because of so many differences. Especially like how the bread just plonked out after I inverted it :D Made for a neat picture!
PUL Team - April 8, 2022, 11:52 p.m.
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to share your experience with the banana bread, Arjun! Sounds lovely π
Thank you Sadia, the best recipe ever! I swapped a lot...made it gluten-free with blended oats, omitted sugar, used soya yoghurt for apple sauce...but the texture is still divine, soft and moist, and tastes great!
PUL Team - March 25, 2022, 1:18 a.m.
Such a big compliment, Mojca! We're so glad the substitutions worked out π
This is the best banana bread! I and my boyfriend cooked it so many times and everytime itβs perfect. We used olive oil instead and chocolate chunks instead of chips. Thank you!
PUL Team - March 23, 2022, 5:15 a.m.
So happy the banana bread is being enjoyed, Janset, thanks a bunch π
Great recipe that I will definitely make again. I made it a bit under cooked (still tastes great but I want to impress my chef friend) so going to make it again for sure asap. Was also making it with the flax soaked without being milled first as no grinder so will probably leave it for a lot longer soaking first too. Skipped on the chocolate and added less sugar and sweet enough for me. Thanks to you I feel excited to be back in the groove of cooking all from scratch and your recipes had enough options that I was able to use what I have in the house, without using strange substitutes. This is greatly appreciated at a time when cash is tight :-)

Awe we're so honoured to hear, Emma! Thanks a bunch for taking the time to share your experience with the banana bread Emma π
I really love this recipe. I have made it a few times now and it always came out amazing. Everyone who tried it was very surprised it is vegan and I was even asked for the recipe a couple of times. Thank you very much for your great recipes :)
Wow! I made this banana bread and it was fantastic. Thanks for your great recipe. Yet I have a question: may I uses oat flour instead of all-purpose flour with the same amount?
PUL Team - March 1, 2022, 12:45 a.m.
Hey Tania! So glad it was enjoyed. We've had several positive reviews with oat flour as a 1:1 substitute π
AWESOME banana bread recipe. I tried like a trillion different banana bread recipes and I am most of the time not satisfied with the consistency. I like it soft but cooked through and not as fudgy like brownies. But this one hits it all. Taste, consistency, ingredients. Everything just perfect. Even my boyfriend said I never made such a good banana bread and am invited to make this again :D Note: Added some leftover pekans and this one was a nice twist!
Thanks for sharing, Britta

So funny story, we made this recipe and accidentally added 1 cup of flour too little because of a miscommunication in the kitchen and it still turned out pretty tasty nonetheless. We'll definitely try again because I am sure if we get the measurements correct it will be wonderful <3
PUL Team - Feb. 21, 2022, 3:28 p.m.
We're so happy to hear it was still enjoyed, Hannah!
First of all, this recipe is AMAZING. It tastes excellent and holds better together than many recipes I tried using eggs as a binder, wow.
Secondly, the only small concern I have is that the dark chocolate tastes a bit too bitter for me. I don't know if it was because I chopped more coarsely than you or why? I used vegan dark chocolate, as you said. But maybe it's just not my thing.
Thanks for sharing, much love.
PUL Team - Feb. 14, 2022, 11:04 p.m.
Hey Florentina, thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with the banana bread! The bitterness in dark chocolate tends to come from either the quality or amount of the cacao/cocoa. Using vegan dark chocolate with less cacao, such as a 70% bar rather than 90%, will be less bitter. Purchasing higher quality chocolate is also generally less bitter compared to lower quality if possible.
Perhaps adding a touch of sea salt or powdered sugar, or serving the banana bread with a sweeter side (such as fruit, plant-yogurt, coconut-whip, etc.) can help enhance the taste of the current batch. We hope this helps for now, and sending much love back your way β¨
YOU NEED TO BAKE THIS FOR ABOUT 80 MINUTES. Great recipe and a big hit with everyone! I saved it to my favorite recipes file, because it always goes over well. I've made it many times since I first tried it in around four or five years ago. It is the absolutely the best with dark chocolate. I like cutting it into rough chunks of about 2 centimeters because that way the chocolate doesn't completely melt. I've found chocolate chips too small. SO ABOUT THE BAKE TIME: I've made this many times (always in a 9 x 5 inch [23 x 13 cm] pan) and it has always taken and hour and twenty minutes. I have an oven thermometer so I'm certain that my oven is at the right temp. I made it again last week for first time in a couple of years, and forgot about this adjustment, so I had to rearrange my evening a bit because I had planned on leaving when it was done, and at the 50 minute mark the knife I used to test its readiness was still coming out of the loaf wet and sticky. I then baked it again last night (big hit with the non-vegan roommates) and it was nicely done at the 80 minute mark. I am not sure if it takes so long because of the unusually low temperature setting--I've never baked anything else at a temperature as low as 320 F (160C). But it taste great and the recipe works if you just leave it in the oven for an extra 30 minutes and I haven't felt like experimenting to see if it would finish faster at 375 (suspect it would work but worry that the chocolate would completely melt)
PUL Team - Feb. 11, 2022, 5:24 p.m.
Hello dearest Carrie, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the banana bread! It's so appreciated to help us improve and we're so thrilled the recipe is being enjoyed. Unfortunately, there's often a lot of variation from oven to oven on how things bake. Perhaps it could have to do with the function setting of your oven? 320Β°F may cook differently with conventional heating vs. fan oven vs. grill vs. bottom heating etc. In our case, we tend to use conventional.
A couple of ideas come to mind that may help if you're interested. For one, perhaps it has to do with the position of the rack within the oven. For example, if the heating element is closer to the bottom and your oven isn't conventional, moving the pan to a rack closer to the heat may reduce the baking time. Increasing the temperature a tad is also another thought that should help if desired. We'll note down the feedback in any case and keep an eye out for others experiences with the baking time π

It's a convection oven. I've also baked this at 3 different apartments, all different ovens, and the results were the same each time!
Since the first time I made this, I make it fairly regularly because it's really delicious. I don't use the chocolate, but instead use walnuts. Otherwise, I make it as it is -- using some ww. flour as well as white.

Mmm sounds lovely, Asta, and so glad the banana bread is being enjoyed :D
Hi Sadia! I tried last night to bake this banana bread and it didn't work out well. After I let it cool off it became hard and it was raw. What did I do wrong? Too many times checking the oven or it was because one of the bananas was not so ripe? P.S. I didn't get to try again the vegetarian patty but next time I will add lemon juice one spoon at a time. P.P.S. I tried the simple hummus, it's hands-down delicious.
Thank you! Have a great time! Dana
PUL Team - Jan. 31, 2022, 1:35 a.m.
Hey Dana, so sorry to hear! Were the ingredients listed in the suggested amounts used? If so, it sounds like the mixture may have been overmixed. All-purpose flour when overmixed promotes more gluten to develop which creates a tougher texture. It can be super tempting to mix more, but only mixing the ingredients together until just combined helps avoid this. So glad the hummus was enjoyed and we hope this helps for now π
dana - Jan. 31, 2022, 5:26 p.m.
Hey Sadia, thank you for the replay. I used all the ingredients and maybe I overmixed. I will try again soon and let you know. Have a great time :)
Wow!!! I made this tonight and am amazed at how fluffy and delicious it is. This was only my second time using a flax egg and it was super easy. I was able to swap out AP flour for oat flour (1:1 ratio, for anyone else who wants to go gluten free or has oats they want to get rid of!). I didn't have veg oil so used canola. I also omitted the sugar and sprinkled vegan dark chocolate chips on top for some sweetness instead. I made my own applesauce using my InstantPot and it worked perfectly! Thank you for my new go to banana bread recipe Sadia! π€

Just made this recipe today. I would give it ten stars if I could! This is the best banana bread recipe Iβve made. We added in cardamom and nutmeg. Definitely an excellent recipe, two thumbs upπ

Aw it means so much, Dani, thank you for the glowing review π
Hi Sadia! βΊοΈ What type of oven are you using in the video that rotates??
PUL Team - Jan. 16, 2022, 8:42 p.m.
Hey Jessica, it's a "combi" oven (works as both a microwave and oven on different settings) - it's one we used to have in our old apartment at the time the video was made. But now we make the banana bread all the time using a regular oven. I hope you enjoy it if you give it a try!
It's the best recipe for banana bread! I tried many but this one is the only one I love so much I could eat it all the time. I always make it when I'm visiting friends or when they visit me. Thank you for it!
PUL Team - Dec. 28, 2021, 6:55 p.m.
A massive compliment, lifeYoga! We appreciate the kind words so much β¨
I made this banana cake today and it was delicious! Just omitted the vanilla as I didn't have it, but the flavour of the bananas and the cinnamon seem to be perfectly enough. I have tried different banana bread recipes over the last year, and didn't think I liked them with chocolate, but this one convinced me. Next time, I'll try a chopped chocolate bar, I used chocolate chips and it doesn't look as pretty as yours does :-) Thank you for this lovely recipe.
PUL Team - Dec. 28, 2021, 7:13 a.m.
Oh, Rita, we're so thrilled it was enjoyed! Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience with this one π
Iβve made this recipe many times before, and I love it. I have a friend that heβs diabetic and his wife is doesnβt get along with gluten. So I decided to try and make this bread for them. I substitute AP flour for oat flour (blending oats), using Greek yogurt instead of applesauce, and honey instead of sugar. My, my! the bread was delicious, still kept all the moist and flavor from the original recipe but with more wholesome ingredients for those who worry about gluten and sugar.
PUL Team - Dec. 23, 2021, 1:35 a.m.
So happy it's being enjoyed, Tina, and thanks for the insight π
Mahima Kalla - Jan. 28, 2022, 2:17 p.m.
I might try the recipe with these subs... did you use 1:1 yoghurt instead of applesauce?
Tina - Jan. 30, 2022, 12:12 a.m.
Yes,I use the same amount as listed. But I mind you the bread doesnβt rise as much that if you use all purpose flour tho. Is not a significant difference tho.
So moist and tasty π€€ this is the best recipe I tried! I did leave out the sugar and added a little bit of maple syrup as the bananas were super ripped and sweet already and used spelt flour. Made it last night and and my boyfriend already ate half π

I used half the amount of sugar (coconut sugar) replaced the chocolate with crushed nuts and made my own apple sauce. This was delicious. Thank you so much.

Thanks for sharing the modifications, Nicolien, we're so glad the banana bread was enjoyed π
This banana bread recipe is hands down my favorite thing ever. I've made it atleast three times now and it's not failed me even once. It's very difficult to find applesauce here in India, so I experimented and made my own and it has worked wonderfully for me. I even swap the all purpose flour for whole-wheat flour and usually top mine off with walnuts as well.
I just wanted to let you know everyone at home loves this recipe as well so now whenever we have overripe bananas that no one wants to eat, I make this.
PUL Team - Nov. 24, 2021, 7:44 p.m.
Aw thank you, Rachna, we appreciate the kind words so much! We're so happy the banana bread is being enjoyed and the substitutions sound lovely βΊοΈ
What could I do if I donβt have apple sauce on hand?
PUL Team - Nov. 19, 2021, 2 a.m.
Hiya Rae! You can substitute the apple sauce for equal parts of neutral vegetable oil. We've heard some positive reviews with coconut oil as well. If you're feeling adventurous, you could experiment with homemade applesauce, plant-based Greek yogurt, or another pureed fruit, such as pears or sweet potato. We hope this helps for now π
This banana bread is now the only one I need! I've made it twice in the last two weeks, the second time for people who came over for dinner. They were rightfully obsessed.
Hello! I once made this substituting half the amount of chocolate with almonds and it was delicious and fluffy. I would now like to try it without sugar altogether as i am trying to avoid sugar in my diet as much as i can. Do you think there will be any change to humidity/consistency/baking time? could you please advise?
Also, if you have some natural sugar advice like dates or dried apricots, could you please share?
Thanks!
PUL Team - Oct. 31, 2021, 7:59 p.m.
Hi there, Chiara, almonds sound delicious! We haven't tested out the recipe without sugar, so we can't say for certain. We have had some positive reviews using half of the recommended sugar, so perhaps this may be an idea to start with.
In case you're interested and haven't already seen it already, you may be interested in our Guide to Sugar pickuplimes.com/article/a-guiβ¦ for some tipsπ
Hello! What can I swab the vegetable oil for? Can I swap it for Coconut oil (and the measurement)?
PUL Team - Oct. 26, 2021, 4:21 a.m.
Hello, Vaibhavi! Thanks for the question. We haven't tested it out, but imagine that equal parts melted coconut oil would work. We'd recommend refined coconut oil if you donβt want too much coconut taste/aroma. If it solidifies in contact with the colder ingredients, stirring it to naturally warm it should help as well. We hope you enjoy the banana bread π
Made this and it turned out so good!! Personally would add less chocolate (just my personal preference, my friends (non-vegans) had no complaints). Was worried it would stick to the pan but it didn't, was overall great! Sending lots of love to the PUL team!
PUL Team - Oct. 8, 2021, 7:19 p.m.
Glad to hear the banana bread was enjoyed, Raihanah, and thank you for sharing your experience with it π
I'm currently making the recipe and I noticed a possible small mistake in the nutritional info. It says there's 0g of added sugar in it though the recipe contains 100g of granulated sugar. Also, do you think the sugar could be replaced using dates? If yes, in which quantity? PUL is my latest and favourite find for beautifully made, fun videos and super smart recipe website. I love the attention that's been put into it.
Groetjesss van Evien uit Veldhoven
PUL Team - Sept. 14, 2021, 4:42 a.m.
Hey Evien, great catch with the nutrition info! We've updated it now, and many thanks for bringing it to our attention π€ As for using dates instead, we haven't tried it so I can't say with confidence. Personally, I wouldn't advise subbing out the sugar for dates, but I'm sure it'd still taste delicious if you decide to try it out. It might help to know that dates have some inherent moisture, which will likely make the mixture a bit more wet and dense. The cooking time might also be altered with the addition of dates. If you do choose to try it out, let us know how you find it! π
Friederike - Sept. 17, 2021, 4 p.m.
I replaced the granulated sugar for granulated date sugar which tastes amazing!
Practical question: is there a way to achieve an "egg" without flaxseeds (and staying vegan of course) ? The area where I live in does not have any flaxseeds at all, nor chia seeds or all of these goodnesses. I would very much like to honour all of PUL's baking recipes, but am facing a wall now...
PUL Team - Sept. 3, 2021, 4:01 a.m.
Hey Alica, that's a lovely question! It may depend on the recipe. If chia or flax seeds are inaccessible, the next best bet may be substituting the flax/chia seeds and water with Β½ a ripe mashed banana or ΒΌ- Β½ cup of another pureed fruit such as unsweetened applesauce, canned pumpkin, or pureed prunes. Your local store may have a vegan egg replacement powder as well depending on where home is for you. We hope this helps for now π€
I made this a few days ago and it's yummy! I didn't have applesauce so I made my own and it was fine. I also added walnuts in the mixture for an extra crunch and topped it with chopped pistachios. SO GOOD. def recommend making this!

Thank you for sharing your experience with the banana bread, Vir, we're so thrilled the recipe was enjoyed π
Hi Sadia, absolutely love this banana bread and have made it countless times! If I only make half the batter (because I only have a small baking tin), will baking time reduce by a lot? I think that is one thing missing with the scalable recipe: baking time & also tin size donβt adapt with it, which I understand is complicated but can lead to the recipe not working when itβs a baking one :) I know it might to common sense but youβd be surprised what Iβve done wrong over the years just blindly following instructions hahaha - Thank you xxx
PUL Team - Aug. 23, 2021, 9:27 p.m.
Hey there, Sarah! Thanks a bunch for the feedback. It's super helpful to hear π It's indeed tricky to adjust the cooking time if changing the portion size, as it will also depend on the pan and oven used. If we had to guess for halving the recipe, checking on it around 30 minutes in might be a good start. We hope this helps! In the meantime, we've noted down the suggestion to consider for future website improvements π
Made this yesterday and it was so easy. I didn't have the applesauce so I just sub it with 1/4 coconut oil. It tastes so good. My husband loved it. I'll make this again after I make homemade applesauce. Thanks, Sadia for these plant-based recipes.

Oh my goodness... This is the BEST banana bread I have ever had! I made a double batch and did half as bread and half as muffins. The muffins only took 30 minutes to bake. PUL is my absolute favorite plant based blog/channel. Thanks for all your hard work and delicious recipes!

This is the best banana bread I have ever tried. I make it so often that I know the recipe by heart already. I think this is how I started to follow your recipes Sadia, from the best banana bread (and banana muffins). Thanks so much!
Finallyyyy I made it. I had asked several questions on the blog about this recipe and you replied so promptly and well. It came out really well and tasty. It was my first baking experience and really loved it. If they had an option to upload pics here, I would have. Thank you so much. <3
I love this one. I have made it countless times because it is so easy and great so save Bananas I have forgotten about. And I got loads of compliments and questions to share the recipe. An I am always happy to do it
This is the best banana bread! Simple as that... And sometimes I donβt have all the ingredients (because I honestly bake this cake a couple of time per months) so instead of apple sauce you can had an apple if you are too lazy to make your own, or less oilβ¦ you can play and add walnuts, or do it without chocolate, change the flour for a gluten-free, sometimes plain flourβ¦ it will be good anyway. Itβs a huge success every time I do it. Even for my non-vegan friends. Itβs mind blowing πππ

I love this recipe, this is the first vegan banana bread recipe that's worked for me! Realised after starting on it that i had run out of applesauce so I replaced it with an equal volume of vegetable oil and it came out so great!! Also subbed the chocolate out for walnuts, just eyeballed the ratio for that, and that may have been my favourite part. Devoured the whole thing by myself in 3 days! Shared this recipe with so many friends as well. Thank you!!!

This is my favourite banana bread recipe and the only one I've been making for almost 2 years now. Honestly, my family, my friends and friends' friends adore it. However, like someone else pointed out, there's a change in amount of flour. To be honest, the previous version with 280gr works perfectly for me. The cake is fluffy, moist and it raises perfectly. There was just one time that I used the other amount of flour, and I didn't like the outcome, it wasn't "my cup of tea". Just a thought, but maybe it would be a good idea to keep both amounts, depending on how "bready" you want your cake to be.
PUL Team - July 23, 2021, 5:10 a.m.
Hey Maja, thanks for sharing this! It's super helpful π I've made this banana bread more times than I can count, but I've always measured it in cups rather than in grams. After reading your comment, I took my cup measurements over to our scale and weighed it out to be sure. For us, it came out to be 231g in total, so I've updated the recipe to reflect this - thanks again for bringing it to my attention π€ Although this number is a bit higher than what it was before, it's still not quite at 280g. If I've done my math correctly, 280g would be about 2 cups + 2Tbsp, whereas this recipe calls for 1ΒΎ cups of flour. I feel like indeed the 280g would work well also - as you've mentioned - resulting in a more "cake-like" consistency and perhaps a little less moist/dense than the version we usually make. In any case, I've bought some bananas and when they're ripe enough, I'll try this recipe using the 280g of flour because now I'm curious ππ Thanks again, Maja!
Hii. This looks so tempting. Can I make this in a round cake pan? That's what I have with me. Should I change measurements accordingly? Please please respond. Thank you so much. Lots of love <3
PUL Team - July 21, 2021, 3:38 a.m.
Hey Archa, thanks for the question! It may depend on the size of the desired cake pan. We'd recommend at least a 9Γ2 inch round pan and continuing to bake until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean. If we had to guess, it may take closer to 50 minutes. Do let us know how it goes if you give the recipe a try π
LOved the recipe... one feedback it is actually little confusing where it says 1 3/4 flour, I ended up adding 1 + 3/4 cups only to realize that it is just 3/4 cup flour.
PUL Team - July 20, 2021, 5:30 a.m.
Hi Chinmayee, the recipe indeed calls for 1 + 3/4 cup of flour, so you did it correctly! We do appreciate the feedback, and we hope you enjoyed the banana bread π
I had to choose between making this banana bread either in a big tray or in a muffin tray, so I went with the muffin one. It turned out delicious! I wasn't sure for how long to bake them, so I started checking them after 15 minutes mark. I opened the oven 4 or 5 times, until they were done around 40-45 minutes since popping them in (on 180C). If anyone has figured out the exact baking time for this recipe the muffin way and could share it here, it'd be helpful for making my next batch :)

Mmm love it π Thank you for the review, Vanessa!
I have already made this so often, I already know the recipe and all the ingredients by heart. So a big thank you for many many pieces of delicious banana bread from me and my family!
I have a question though: I'm about 90% sure the recipe used to call for 280gr of flour. Am I remembering this correctly? If so, what's the difference? Thank you in advance. :)
PUL Team - July 16, 2021, 3:47 a.m.
Such a compliment, baerenappetit, so glad you're enjoying the recipe! Indeed it looks like the grams amount changed. We're now using more reliable ways to determine average measurements of ingredients (such as the USDA), so it looks like our previous measurement of flour was a fairly big overestimate! We hope this helps β¨
Made this with half of the sugar (not into super-sweet banana breads) and it was devine. My roomate even said it was the best banana-bread she ever had :D

I am going to try making this today using either coconut or cassava flour (or a mix of both) & date sugar. Looks like a great recipe! I've been craving banana bread but have been looking for a healthier recipe. This looks super promising! I'll report back after I make it. :)
Stephanie - July 10, 2021, 7:41 p.m.
Update: It was delicious but slightly under-baked! I kept it in 35 mins, but 40-50 would have been much better. It's trial & error baking with coconut flour. :)
Stephanie - July 12, 2021, 2:08 p.m.
Another Update! LOL. I made it a second time and used just cassava flour - it was definitely more moist and overall had a better consistency. The loaf could have still used 5-10 more mins in my oven. I might try doing muffins instead of bread next time. This recipe is awesome and makes my mom and me feel good that we are using healthy, wholesome ingredients! :)
PUL Team - July 15, 2021, 7:48 a.m.
Ooo love to see the updates, Stephanie, thanks so much for returning to share them! Muffins sounds like a super fun idea. Do let us know if you experiment anymore! Happy cooking π
Made this today - absolutely flawless recipe! I have a 23 x 13 cm baking tin and 50 mins at 160c fan assisted baked this to perfection with a really lovely rise. Honestly the best banana bread Iβve ever eaten. Lovely and banana-ery, not greasy or chewy - just the perfect consistency and most gorgeous flavour. Absolutely brilliant! As are all the recipes of yours Iβve ever tried! Fantastic work! The scaling feature is brilliant too! I can adjust the recipe to the weight of the bananas I have on hand π I didnβt notice that the amount of baking soda in grams doesnβt seem to scale down for me (though it does scale up), but maybe thatβs just my phone. A really brilliant reliable recipe!!

This is my go-to banana bread recipe! I have made it so often over the years! I make it with a gluten free baking mix, and it turns out beautifully (it just won't get as brown or rise as much). I'm a follower of your videos for 3 years now and I love all your recipes. Can we omit applesauce in this? Or any substitute? Thanks a lot β€
PUL Team - July 3, 2021, 9:42 p.m.
Wow we're so grateful you've been part of the PUL community for so long, Archa! Oil generally makes a good substitute for applesauce. More mashed bananas, plant-based Greek yogurt, or another pureed fruit, such as pears or sweet potato, are some other ideas that may be fun to experiment with π€
Like so many others, this was one of the first recipes I tried when I found your YT channel. I've been around ever since and this remains one of my favs. Even though I'm vegan for many years, I have high cholesterol and generally try to avoid the saturated fat in coconut oil. I found that if I sub a light veg oil, like Sunflower or Earth Balance for solid fat, it always works just fine. Thanks for all your wonderful recipes, and equally brilliant website.

Oh my goodness, this banana bread is so good! My sister had a really good banana bread recipe, but it contained lots of butter and sugar. Not only is this recipe a lot healthier, but it is also really moist and delicious, especially with the combination of cinnamon and chocolate! Thank you for such a wonderful recipe!

I've been a (really big) fan of Pick up Limes and Sadia's recipe's for some years now. This recipe is one of the first I tried out and since I made it for the first time, I've baked this banana bread practically every other week or even weekly. I have halved the amount of chocolate in my recipe and I leave the chocolate out for my husband as he prefers it that way (strange!) and I've also reduced the amount sugar as it would be just wrong to eat it like this as often as I enjoy it. The beauty of this recipe is that it is very easy to make your own because it comes out great if you play around with the amount of certain ingredients as well. It's super easy and efficient to make as a one-bowl-bread and it's made from pantry ingredients. Also, it freezes well. I always bake one to take with me when I go on holiday - I have some waiting for me now whilst I write this from a holiday home. I highly recommend making it in muffin moulds instead of a cake tin if you're hungry and appreciate the crispy outside of the bread as much as I do.

To say my friends and I love this recipe is an understatement. All friends who bake have asked for the recipe and are delighted by how easy it is. I used to bring this to university to eat with friends after class all the time. I'm not used to vegan baking (vegetarian here) so I'm very pleased by how easy it is to make and that I already have everything I need in my cupboards. I'll sometimes use an immersion blender for the bananas, especially when I'm making two banana breads in one go. Thank you so much for this and all your other wonderful recipes!!

My father-in-law, who is extremely picky, and never touches any food that has 'vegan, 'non-diary', 'low fat, 'organic', 'gluten free', and other 'modern weird stuff' in the title, absolutely loves this bread. I swap chocolate chips for walnuts and use vegan butter instead of vegetable oil. Everything else is exactly as in your recipe. When I told the family that I'm going to bake this bread again this Saturday, their faces brightened instantly. :) Thanks a lot for the recipe. Also, I have to say, that the new website is wonderful - faster and more convenient than the old one, and I absolutely love the recalculating feature - very cool and useful, thanks!

This bread was good that it should be illegal. I swapped out the regular all-purpose flour for a gluten free for obvious reasons. It has been a huge hit among my carnivorous family members.
I personally am not a huge fan of chocolate, but the recipe had just enough of it in it. I look forward to making this again.

Can I make this without the Apple sauce? Any substitutes?
THE MOST EPIC BANANA BREAD EVER!!
Followed the recipe to the T, it was literally so perfect and vegan! made me cry happy tears :,) thank you PUL team!
Oh my, oh my how good this is π€€ best bananabread ever, and i have made a few in the past years, let me tell ya, and none were as good as yours. This recipe is a keeper just like you guys β€οΈ you never dissapoint. π
This is the best and easiest banana bread I've ever made! Everyone who tasted it loves it - but I mean how could you not? It's divine π
Having this recipe twice in one week. My 1.5 year old son absolutely loved this! He is allergic to so many things and that you made a recipe for banana bread he can actually eat brings me such joy and relief! Definitely recommend β₯οΈ
I love this recipe. The best of all β€οΈ
Incredibly easy to make and even easier to eat! π
Delicious!! Hard to stop eating! π
This is dangerously good and so easy to make. I doubled the recipe and split it between three 8.5 x 4.5 loaf pans and it came out perfectly.
I have to bake this bread three times a week for my toddler, just with less chocolate and I take dates instead of the sugar. The best banana bread!!!
Delicious and easy to make!
Yum!
π₯°π₯°
I can't count how many times I've made this recipe since I first watched it on YouTube. My husband couldn't believe it was vegan :)
I did not have the applesauce so I added 30g oil extra and that looked liquid enough for me.
I love nut so I used both pecan and walnuts and less chocolate.
The flavour and texture was good, with the same dough I made cupcakes (35min baking time) and they were fluffy :)
The bread took over 1h to bake though.
A huge success, as always ππ§‘
I just made it. I put white chocolate inside ( i m vegetarian ) and i divided the dough in 2 and i put cacao in one part. Its turn out more than delicious .
Needed to increase temp to 350 to cook through
I didnβt have flax seeds or apple pure but it came out great without! Thank you :)
This is my go to cake wherever I go it's so good π»
Bonjour
peut on avoir les recettes en français?
Je viens de faire le banana bread, dΓ©licieux.
I love it, my dear Sadia. Thank you very muchπ©·
Made this yesterday evening and itβs the best banana bread Iβve had!! Tastes even better the second day π
I've been making this banana bread for years since seeing the video on YouTube. The best banana bread ever
Almost every time I make this banana bread I get asked for the recipe. It is a huge hit with friends and colleagues. I sometimes double the amount of chocolate and that is tasty, too.
I have baked this recipe in various portions multiple times and every time it's a banger the best banana bread recipe out there
I made a miso banana bread by replacing the chocolate and salt with 2 tbsp of white (sweet) miso paste and increased the sugar levels by 1/4 cup to counteract the saltiness. Works well!
The best Banana-Bread-Recipe I know. I always reduce the sugar by 50%, but use 100g Chocolate and that makes it the right sweetness for me.
Hi want to make this for my baby first birthday. How can I replace the sugar and the oil best?
I love this banana bread recipe, it's so simple and fast, yet delicious. I also added walnuts into the mixture, it was great.
So easy to make and has the perfect level of sweetness.
Delicious & easy to make
This bread was just pure Joy!
Had it with some vegan butter.
Delicious!!!
I did leave out a bit of sugar, and added some raisins along with the chocolate. Absolutely will make this again.
Best banana bread ever! Love it since the first time I tried it a couple of years back :)
This is the only banana bread we make as a familyβ¦ itβs absolutely delicious
Hey everyone,
This is awesome. Quick and easy. Made my own apple sauce recently because the shops were closed. I've Made this bananabread three times during the last month using my roommates leftover bananas!!! They loooved it;) I have suspicions they leave them for the bananabread on purpose!!!
Best wishes
Absolutely love this. Tastes so good! You mentioned it could be frozen for a month which is perfect because thereβs no way I canβt eat the whole thing in 2 days. Should I slice it before I freeze it? If so do you put anything between the slices? Any tips on storage containers for frozen items in general? Whatβs the best way to defrost the bread? I just want to make it last because itβs so yummy!
So simple and goodβ¦and an easy way to use the ripe bananas as no one wants to eat themπ
I make this one for 3 years know( that how long I been following you :)) itβs really the best banana cake
Awesome, the people who doesn't like bananas in my family loves it. Hands up to the team for sharing this recipe !
Amazing and super quick way to brighten up your day with good flavours. Tastes like a rainy day at home with a book :)
Great recipe! I've turned it into a marbled banana bread by dividing the batter in half and adding 2 tbsp of cacao powder to one half and that's pretty good as well π
Plus I enjoy to finger lick what's left of the chocolate batter π
I made this yesterday and it was soo tasty. My husbsnd was soo surprised. Thank you for always inspiring healthy cooking. My stomach gets really bloated with all purpose flour...any tips what else i can use.
We tried it and it was finger licking good!
Made this today. Delicious. Next time Iβll add a few walnuts too!
I liked this bread a lot, but will add walnuts next time. I baked it in a 9x5 loaf pan. It took 60 minutes. So yummy!
Delicious! I made βdonutsβ out of them, easy to grab for the kids and me ofcourse. I made regular size and miniβs and they perfect for when I am having my cup of coffee.
I've made this recipe numerous times and it always turns out great! I tried swapping out the cinnamon for ginger this time and it's also really good. I serve it with plain soya yoghurt and some berries, delicious!
Thank you guys so much! Had to transfer out vanilla extract for almond because I ran out. This app is a game changer for sure!
Such a comforting desert, perfect with a cup of tea of coffee! I omitted the dairy free chocolate however, so itβs a bit less sweet than I would normally gravitate towards- May taste good with some honey or maple syrup however!
Yum!
Also any substitute to apple sauce. Thanks
Can i add coconut oil in this recipe instead of vegetable oil.
So good! I made this thinking Iβd have a slice and freeze the rest. But it was so good I just had to share it with others (and eat a second slice!) and now itβs gone. Everyone loved it! Next time I think Iβll make 2 loaves.
I make these as muffins and keep them in my freezer for a quick snack. Love them!
Soooo delicious and very easy to make. The hardest part was not eating it in one sitting.
This is so delicious! I had some ripe bananas to use up, so it was the perfect recipe. I used Nomo orange chocolate and pear puree instead of the apple sauce and it turned out exactly like the photos. So easy to make and so very, very tasty. Thank you for the lovely recipes.
This is always appriciated when I make this for my vegan friends π
A go to recipe when we have 3 bananasπ laying around and no one wants to eat them. Which happens quite often BTW. Definitely a crowd pleaser. Thank you for the recipeπ
I absolutely love this recipe. Definitely keeper. Did it 3times and consistently yummy! Kids love it. Thank you.
A more artistic way of presenting a recipe to be sure but I like watching you and listening to you as you cook. It is more personal.
Hi!
Just wanted to check if substituting applesauce with honey would work in this recipe?
This is our family absolute favorite! Love the softness, the taste, the textureβ¦ there is only one problem: it always disappears too quickly ππ
Hello, can I use soy milk instead of water?
I absolutely love this banana bread, by far the most moist and delicious bread.
Saved my old bananas! Amazing
Hello , is it possible to use whole wheat flour instead of all purpose flour ?
I keep coming back to this recipe! I used only half the sugar because my apple sauce was sweetened. I absolutely love this banana bread.
My all time favorite! Been making this one for years now and although Iβve tried a few other recipes, I always come back to this oneππ₯§π«
Heyyy I was wondering is there a different oil I could use instead of vegetable oil for this recipe?
This was delicious and very easy to make. Love having the simplicity of one bowl recipes to make late night cooking so much easier!! I never thought making banana bread without an egg would taste so good!!
Absolutely loved it!! This was my first ever recipe using flax seeds instead of egg. Amazing!!
Great addition to our family! Thank you
I've made this recipe several times now (as muffins instead of a loaf) and they have been a hit with the people I shared them, every single time.
My go to vegan cake recipe. I've made it so many times!
Wonderful recipe! And a perfect gift for loved ones... :)
Top tip: sprinkle some crushed walnuts or cacao nibs on the top before baking for an extra crunch. Takes this already amazing banana bread to the next level!
Amazing recipe and so easy to make!
I love banana bread that I'm making it with my mom.
The best banana bread I've tried. Thank you for your lovely recipe π
Cheers!
This recipe is my husband's favorite. I am doing it already for more than 3 years! we love it. I am trying to play a bit with the sugar content, once I have a 1-year-old daughter and we are therefore eating less sugar.
Loving the blog and the videos of course! Finally tried my hand at baking something thanks to PUL !
My absolute favourite banana bread recipe! I don't think I'll ever grow tired of it, it's so moist and just tastes perfect :)
I usually share it with friends and family, but am currently all by myself, so I've put it in the freezer to last me an entire month! I was wondering if there are any steps to take when taking a piece out of the freezer? Do I just have to let it thaw or would it be best to put a slice in the oven for a bit? Thank you so much in advance!
Absolutely love the banana bread.
Even my husband (non vegan or vegetarian) loved it. Moist and delicious.
Will make it againπ
Love this one, doing it everytime I have some really ripped bananas. Thank you!
So easy and so delicious! I made them into mini muffins - 18 minute bake time. Perfect!
Just made this today⦠my first PUL recipe. So. Yummy. I will definitely make this again. I think the texture is what made this recipe stand out for me. It was moist and light. I have been enjoying your channel very much. Thanks Sadia for a delicious treat.
Would spelt flour work in place of all purpose?
I've been making this recipe for years and it has never disappointed me ! Thanks for the delicious recipe and for all the hard work you put into Pick Up Limes and this (amazing) website, it has taught me a lot about vegan cooking !
Hiii Iβm wanting to make this recipe but all I have are three 8in.x 3 7/8in.x 2 15/32in. (20.3cm x 9.8cm x 6.3cm) would I still be able to use these to put it in?
THE BEST banana bread ever!!!
All of my friends and work colleagues that have tried it - really loved it and kept asking what recipe I used. I always come back to this recipe and it never fails. It is perfect as afternoon snack in the office, but when enjoyed at home - I love to add some nut butter on top when served and some extra maple syrup :)
Thank you so much for creating this recipe - it is often used and recommended to others <3
Hi, thank you for this delicious recipe.
What can I use instead if I am out of flaxseed ? An egg? Thank you π
Thank you!
My new favorite banana bread recipe!
This recipe works really well as is. It's my go-to banana bread recipe and everyone loves it every time I make it!
Is there a substitution for the chocolate chips, sorry but I don't like them .
Hi! Quick question, what is the substitute for applesauce if we can't get our hands on them? Really look forward to making this recipe!
I love this recipe, I have doe it tons of time. Thanks Sadia :)
Sadia yet again another winner!!!!!!! Soooooo goooood π π π. Thankyou lovely X
I have been making this bread for years. It's so simple and delicious!
Thank you Sadia, the best recipe ever! I swapped a lot...made it gluten-free with blended oats, omitted sugar, used soya yoghurt for apple sauce...but the texture is still divine, soft and moist, and tastes great!
This is the best banana bread! I and my boyfriend cooked it so many times and everytime itβs perfect. We used olive oil instead and chocolate chunks instead of chips. Thank you!
AWESOME banana bread recipe. I tried like a trillion different banana bread recipes and I am most of the time not satisfied with the consistency. I like it soft but cooked through and not as fudgy like brownies. But this one hits it all. Taste, consistency, ingredients. Everything just perfect. Even my boyfriend said I never made such a good banana bread and am invited to make this again :D
Note: Added some leftover pekans and this one was a nice twist!
Thanks for sharing,
Britta
So funny story, we made this recipe and accidentally added 1 cup of flour too little because of a miscommunication in the kitchen and it still turned out pretty tasty nonetheless. We'll definitely try again because I am sure if we get the measurements correct it will be wonderful <3
Since the first time I made this, I make it fairly regularly because it's really delicious. I don't use the chocolate, but instead use walnuts. Otherwise, I make it as it is -- using some ww. flour as well as white.
Dana
Hi Sadia! βΊοΈ What type of oven are you using in the video that rotates??
π€€
It's the best recipe for banana bread! I tried many but this one is the only one I love so much I could eat it all the time. I always make it when I'm visiting friends or when they visit me. Thank you for it!
Favorite recipe. Everybody loves this banana bread
What could I do if I donβt have apple sauce on hand?
I love all your recipes. I live in Latin America and with your recipes I have taste a lot of different flavors I never tasted before
This banana bread is now the only one I need!
Thanks!
Hello! What can I swab the vegetable oil for? Can I swap it for Coconut oil (and the measurement)?
The bread came out fluffy and full of flavour. Great recipe!
Made this and it turned out so good!! Personally would add less chocolate (just my personal preference, my friends (non-vegans) had no complaints). Was worried it would stick to the pan but it didn't, was overall great! Sending lots of love to the PUL team!
This is our favourite banana bread recipe ever. It's now the only one we use. It's really simple to make, my two toddlers love to help and eat this.
Itβs simply delicious! Especially with some roasted pecans or other nuts. Even my non-vegan friends love it!
Hey PUL team,
I'm currently making the recipe and I noticed a possible small mistake in the nutritional info.

I made this a few days ago and it's yummy! I didn't have applesauce so I made my own and it was fine. I also added walnuts in the mixture for an extra crunch and topped it with chopped pistachios. SO GOOD. def recommend making this!
Made this yesterday and it was so easy. I didn't have the applesauce so I just sub it with 1/4 coconut oil. It tastes so good. My husband loved it. I'll make this again after I make homemade applesauce. Thanks, Sadia for these plant-based recipes.
Just made this and I donβt need any other banana bread recipe. I only have small load tins so I have split it into 2 and one loaf is almost gone! This is sensational! Thank you for a lovely recipe. I shall definitely be making this again, might even do a double batch βΊοΈ
This is so delicious!! Definitely the best banana bread I've ever had and my family enjoyed it too :) Thank you for putting so much time, care, and effort into making such incredible recipes ππ
Absolutely delicious! I may or may not have eaten half the loaf within the first two daysβ¦
Next time i make it Iβm going to try using Gluten Free flour so my mom can eat it.
I tried it, I love it.. This is THE banana bread recipe. Even my non-vegan friends agree.
I made these last weekend for a pick me up snack during work - and oh man oh man Iβm so glad I did! I still canβt believe theyβre vegan because they taste better than the other banana breads Iβve eaten before. Thank you PUL team and Sadia for sharing this recipeπ Lots of love from the US!
Hii. This looks so tempting. Can I make this in a round cake pan? That's what I have with me. Should I change measurements accordingly? Please please respond. Thank you so much. Lots of love <3
LOved the recipe... one feedback it is actually little confusing where it says 1 3/4 flour, I ended up adding 1 + 3/4 cups only to realize that it is just 3/4 cup flour.
Such a crowd pleaser!
Absolutely love this recipe. My go-to banana bread recipe of the many I've tried. I don't have flaxseeds, so i usually sub it out for chia instead. And i like adding walnuts for crunch and heartiness β€οΈ
Cannot wait to bake it for friends - but this initial bake is all for me :D! Thanks so much for the brilliant recipe - what a winner!
This is a delicious recipe! Highly recommend β€οΈ
I have baked this banana bread SO many times and it is always gone within minutes when I bring it to work or a family party. Love it!
I don't know how many times I already made this recipe... it's so delicious and easy to make!
I made it several times and itβs sooo yummy! Comes together pretty quickly too π
Absolutely love this banana bread! So delicious and moist :)
It also freezes well, and I have given it to friends as gifts - who then ask me for the recipe and I can point them here!
I'm a follower of your videos for 3 years now and I love all your recipes. Can we omit applesauce in this? Or any substitute? Thanks a lot β€
I'd do this recipe again and again! It's FABULOUS! π
This was one of the first recipes I made from your blog, and I instantly became a fan! Really delicious banana bread that is very easy to make. I think I've already made it twenty times in total!
This has been my go to banana cake recipe ever since I found PUL a few years ago.
Since I donβt get apple sauce I have replaced it with oil and it still turns out fine. Is there any substitute to apple sauce you can recommend ?
My boyfriend and me love this recipe. We make a banana bread per week now!
I've been making this bread since I found your page and its perfection!
I tried several banana bread recipes and none compares to this. Incredibly tasty, moist, and such a crowd-pleaser (hard to believe it's wholesome too!). Everyone who tries it loves it, even the pickiest friends and family members. Thank you for this recipe PickUpLimes! It is amazing!
This is such a nice recipe. I loved making it for my mom for Mother's day. β₯
Tried it, it was amazing!! Really moist and yummy :)
Making recipes with sugar, oil... to stress me out when I was struggling with my relationship with food but now I'm so glad I have the courage to try them out :))
Thanks a ton!
this has been my go-to banana bread recipe for several years and it never disappoints! it's so easy to make and such a crowd pleaser (: i appreciate that all the ingredients are simple and easy to find - thank you so much for this recipe!
Wonderful recipe
Thanks a lot for the recipe.
