Ingredients
-
2 Tbsp (30 mL)vegetable oil, neutral tasting
-
6cloves garlic, minced
-
1stalk green onion, sliced, dark green parts separated
-
-
2 Tbsp (30 mL)dark soy sauce
-
-
6heads of baby bok choy
-
2 cups (200 g)frozen shelled edamame beans
Optional garnish
-
toasted sesame seeds
Directions
- In a large pot, cook the noodles according to the package instructions, for us this took 3 minutes.
- Meanwhile, add the oil to a large pan on medium-high heat. When hot, add the garlic and light parts of the green onion. Cook for 2 minutes. Then add the gochugaru and cook for 1 minute longer.
- Drop the heat to low and add the soy sauce, vinegar, and use tongs to add the noodles from the pot to the pan, without draining the cooking water. Mix everything together.
- Add the bok choy and edamame to the pot of boiling water in which the noodles were cooked. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, or until cooked to your liking. Then drain.
- Serve the noodles in bowls, with the bok choy served alongside them. Garnish with the dark green part of the green onion and sesame seeds if desired. Serve the edamame on the side with a sprinkle of salt overtop. Enjoy!
Notes
- †Gochugaru is made from Korean dried red chili peppers, also known as taeyang-cho. Red chili flakes can be used, but are spicier than gochugaru.
- †Black rice vinegar is mostly used in Chinese cuisine and made with fermented glutinous rice. It has a deep, robust flavour and is sweeter than red and white vinegar.
Storage
- The noodles are best when enjoyed immediately, but can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

WHERE in Paris I can get goshugaru? I searched in 2 Asian épiceries- tong and sth else and they didn’t hear of it.. I’ve only seen ‘piment fort’ - cayenne pepper..
I’m dying to do this, the way Sadia made it in the video literally made my mouth watered ..
And I boycot Amazon- they are horrible for the planet, local commerces, unethical and enslaving and bullying their workers- they literally made people work I’ve r their collègue dead body for several hours before they called the authorities in some American city and that’s only top of the iceberg, so please no Amazon ..
These noodles look delicious! I see that you can buy them on Amazon, but do you know of a particular shop where you can buy these in the Netherlands, or should I just visit my local Toko?
I love this one.
It' s a Quick fix on days I am not in the humor to cook a lot.
One can vary a lot for example put a few more veggis to the garlic like bellpeppers etc. Or use Spaghetti noodles.
It' s very tasty and filling. I give it a thumps up.
Thanks for this lovely recipie.
It was very tasty and easy to make! We hid some cabbage in there as well :)
I‘m always looking for quick and easy recipes, so that i‘m not tempted to order food so often. This recipe here is so great! Made it twice already, both times when i was in a hurry and really didn‘t want to cook, but i didn‘t regret it because it is so yummy!
Made it 4 or 5 times already… love this! Super quick, easy and yummy.
How do you eat so much gluten and stay healthy?
I don't have an asian grocery store where I live, so I just tried the red pepper flakes - i tried to offset the spiciness by adding some dates and I feel like it worked super well! I didn't have bock choy either but broccoli worked well and tasted excellent 😊
These were really quick and easy to make and was perfect for a mod week dinner, however did find it really spicy than expected
Absolutely love this! I may have eaten all of it myself.
This was super easy and quick to put together
I didn't believe that this recipe would be as easy as it is!! I've made it several times and each time I've gotten faster as I get more familiar with the recipe and the timing.
It's seriously delicious, and I've made it several times in the last few weeks just because I keep getting cravings for it! I tend to use slightly less gochugaru and slightly more garlic, rice wine vinegar (as that's what we have in our pantry), and serve with steamed broccoli and edamame.
Thank you for another recipe to add to our rotation, PUL!!
So tasty and comes together so quickly!
This recipe is so delicious. Everyone I have made it for loves it. Even the non-spice lovers. I have made it exactly as shown (bought the ingredients online). I have also altered with whatever asian rice flat noddles are available in my nearby grocery store & have also added chicken or shrimp on the side.
Obsessed with this recipe! Quick, delicious and affordable. It is now staple in our home.
I just made this last night for the first time and it was INCREDIBLE! So easy, so satisfying. I used regular soy sauce and rice vinegar because that's what I had on hand but it still turned out delicious!
PS. I wish those noodles were easier to find in stores, they are heavenly!
Quick Garlic chilli noodles, yes please!
This recipe could not be more easy to make and delicious to eat.
PUL team gave us a recipe we can easily make any evening, since we already got most of the ingredients in our pantry.
Highly recommend it to add to your quick dinner list.
Thanks for this recipe. Keep up the good work!
I tried the homemade version (with less oil) and WOW! Best 10-minute lunch ever!
Thank you, I love your content.
I have made this dish at least once every week since you posted it ! It is incredibly easy, yummy and quick to make. Perfect for the Friday evening, to replace the take out dish…. Thank you Pick up limes team, this is my favourite recipe !
(I even made a batch of the sauce to have it on hand every time… it tastes great after four days in the fridge for those who want to try)
I'm obsessed with this recipe. A spicy noodle dish during winter? Yes, please! I threw in some chopped up cabbage and frozen peas and it turned out wonderful. I topped it with a 6 minute egg and some sliced seaweed, but it would shine all on its own. Thank you PUL for another kickass recipe.
really easy, greasy and delicious!
This is insanely delicious! I love how you make it so easy to sub out ingredients and double recipes. Thank you!
I tried this today and it is absolutely delicious . Thank you for the recipe
Tried the recipe last night and it was delicious! I didn't have in shelled edamame, so I just thawed the edamame beans I had and mixed them in with the noodles instead of serving as a side dish and it was perfect :) Will absolutely make those noodles again!!!
The Spicy Garlic Noodle Takeout version was excellent. Thank you for your commitment to sharing nutritious vegan recipes. I can’t wait to make this dish again.
We loved this recipe, we ate it twice this week! We have been recommending it to all our friends :)
Oh my God, Sadia, I just made this recipe for the second time (restaurant style the first time, home style just now) and IT IS THE BEST FREAKING LUNCH I EVER HAD! 😊😊😊😋😋😋 I made it with Brokkoli and some green bell pepper and it was SO GOOD! And so quick to throw together, I LOVE it. Sorry for all the captions, hehe, but I'm just so excited. Brightened up the dark December day here in Germany ☀️😃
Thanks for all your work, I love the blog and the channel.
😍
The best quick comfort meal, especially with hectic school or work schedules! It's honestly better than takeout, and the restaurant method in the video is great if you are craving takeout style. Today instead of cooking the noodles separately I just added dried ramen and water to the pan and cooked the noodles that way, tasted really nice too!
I eat these probably once a week now!
Do you sell a cookbook? It's so much easier than looking online, for some of us. I haven't been able to find one, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place?
Yumyumyumyum!!
I made restaurant-style with broccolini and edamame tonight. So good!!! I’m just blown away recipe after recipe that I try of yours. . I’d expect a good one here and there from a source. But time after time yours are a 10/10. So many lifetime keepers. Thanks!
Have anything up your sleeve for a mothers woman's group? We do a monthly brunch style potluck roughly 15 people. Would love to share with them one of your creations.
Really good...but, the next time I make it I will not add as much chili flakes as this was just way to spicy. Even for my extra spicy loving husband. My lips are still burning. Thankfully I made a lot of bok choy, so it toned it down some. I adjusted the servings to 4 so both my husband and I could have it tonight and tomorrow which then called for 2 tbsp of the gochugaru.....next time I'll do just 1 tbsp.
Otherwise, super good.
Literally just finished eating this and had to leave a message! This was so tasty 😋 adding this into regular rotation
Oh my god, this was so good I had to make it three times over in the same evening! I made it restaurant-style with 2 tbsp sizzling oil per portion, and it was amazing. My new favourite dinner! Gochugaru is a magical ingredient. Thank you!
Amazing !!
So delicious, take away flavour at home, but still healthy!
Mmm.. This recipe was delicious! I sawpped out bok choy for broccoli, (I'm allergic) but it was still amazing, although i'm not suprised, I love your recipes! I shared it with my picky girlfriend, and even she loved it! (Im also not a good cook). Thank you so much for this recipe!
We had to make some substitutions to what we had on hand, like ramen noodles and shallots. This is definitely going on our weeknight list. Our 1 year old devoured it!
I loved how easy and quick this recipe was, not to mention utterly delicious!! I used brown rice noodles to make it GF which worked very well. I especially loved the addition of edamame in their shell as a side. I hadn't had these in ages and they were a real treat!
I can't believe how easy and deeply satisfying this was to eat. I used ramen noodles as I didn't have anything else; very delicious! Many thanks for sharing :)
We tried both version. The restaurant style turns out better for me, but my partner prefers the one with less oil. It will become our staple. Thank you a lot! ❤️
Omg this recipe is CRAZY good. I made it for lunch on Monday and twice again since then (and it is only Thursday). Simple with incredible flavor and an absolute breeze to slam together. I couldn’t find black vinegar at my local grocery store, so I just used seasoned rice vinegar and it still worked out beautifully. Thank you for another winner!
I loved this recipe so much! I didn't have any wheat noodles, so I used instant ramen, (also because I didn't have enough time) and it was so rich and flavorful. Would definitly make this again!
So delicious! My husband and I never had garlic noodles before. We used pad Thai rice noodles to keep it gluten free. And we found the gochugaru at Whole Foods. Super easy to make and we doubled it for leftovers (we love leftovers!). The gochugaru is a nice zesty flavor, without being spicy. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this recipe. Yum!!)
Wow! tried making this for lunch, and it was AMAZING! I made this for myself and packed it for my lunch, and the flavor kept for almost 6 hours! Would definitly make this if I had friends over and needed a quick, easy meal. I love your recipes! 🥰
We did flash fry version Saturday then Sunday night we meal prepped homestyle way! It was so good! 5/5!!!
I really loved this quick noodle recipe. Made it for lunch. Very easy and super fast and that's what I need but super delicious
Delicious quick and easy meal. Perfect for this time of year when you want something warming and comforting which is also hassle free to make. I will definitely be having this again.
So good!! Quick and delicious! This will go in the weeknight rotation for sure!
This recipe is AMAZING!! Thank you! It was very easy to follow and the flavor was on point. I never had boiled bok choy before but I'm going to incorporate it into meals more often now.
I just tried this recipe and it was Delicous!! I subbed the wheat noodles with pad Thai rice noodles and it was super good! I would love to see more quick easy meals.
So yummy, added some fresh lemon juice, and bit of brown sugar. So satisfying!
As soon as I saw this video on YouTube, I had to make this! First, I searched for gochugaru and black rice vinegar in the Asian grocery store and then I got to work. This was really good, thank you for posting this recipe. The only change I made was steaming the Bok Choy instead of boiling and serving it with Ume Plum Vinegar, Flax Oil and Gomashio (from the cookbook "The Kind Diet" by Alicia Silverstone, so very yummy). Please post more recipes that only take 15-20 min - I love to eat but I don't like cooking ; )
Great quick recipe. We just used what we had (regular chilli flakes but a little less and mie noodles) and it tastes better than take out. I agree that you need a side of veggie and protein. I think we will just add some bell pepper or carrot and edamame directly to the noodles next time.
Sadia, loved this recipe. Even my partner, who barely likes anything, loved it! We only didn't get it as saucy as you as we cooked 5 servings. But flavor was on point. Thaaanks :*
Actually had everything on hand to make this recipe, and may I say: yummy! So fast, so easy, and SO GOOD! Thanks PUL!
Made it right after I saw the notification of the video haha! I added some leftover carrots which I thinly sliced. And what can I say - it’s always a pleasure to cook something from PUL, tastes amazing and delicious! 🤌❤️
