Chow Mein Base

  • ½ Tbsp (7 mL)
    vegetable oil
  • 1 cup (168 g)
mock "chicken" pieces, torn into shreds
  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL)
    vegetable oil
  • 1
    medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2
    cloves garlic, minced
  • 5.3 oz (150 g)
    vegan chow mein noodles
  • ¼
    napa cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2
    carrots, julienned
  • 1
head of bok choy, thinly sliced, stems and leaves separated

Optional garnishes

  • toasted sesame seeds
  • sliced green onion
  • crispy chili oil

Directions

  1. Combine sauce ingredients in a jar or small bowl.
  2. Add the oil to sauté pan on high heat. Cook the mock chicken pieces until golden. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  3. Add the some more oil to the now-empty pan. Cook the onion and garlic in the pan until the garlic becomes golden.
  4. Then add the cabbage, carrots, and white stems of the bok choy. Cook for 3 - 4 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, cook the noodles according to the package directions. Then drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process.
  6. Add the mock chicken back to the pan along with the bok choy leaves. Cook until warmed through.
  7. Stir through the cooked noodles, then pour over the sauce and toss to combine. Cook for 3 minutes to allow the cornstarch to thicken.
  8. Serve with green onions and sesame seeds. Enjoy!

Brandy - July 4, 2024, 3:02 a.m.

Me and my family loooovvveee this dish. Even the 6 and 2 year old. My 6 year old says it tastes like egg rolls.

Ola - July 4, 2024, 12:11 a.m.

Hi!
It looks absolutely amazing… Can I replace the sriracha sauce with anything? Unfortunately it’s not available in my region (as well as the sambal oelek)… I’ll be thankful for your answer. Thanks for everything!

PUL Team - July 4, 2024, 12:26 a.m.

Hey Ola, you can use an alternative hot sauce like Tabasco if that's more accessible. We've also heard positive reviews for sweet chili and gochujang in place of sriracha 🤗

Ola - July 9, 2024, 1:01 p.m.

Thank you!!!

Nicolaine - June 23, 2024, 5:37 a.m.

So, so easy it was ridiculous. Delicious, tastes nutritious fresh and for work lunches.

Nezhlya Kyamil - June 20, 2024, 12:38 p.m.

One of my favourite recipes, i've been making it every week 😊 it is so easy amd super delicious.
Thank you

This one was soo good! Thank you!! Will make it again soon for dinner with my mum 🌿

Kia - May 13, 2024, 10:36 p.m.

Love how veggie heavy yet comforting this meal is. Another win from this app for our family of 7! Thank you so much!

Galittza - May 12, 2024, 7:27 p.m.

I love chow mein and just got back from Farmer's Market with this recipe in mind. I don't buy bouillon cubes so I wanted to ask what would be a good replacement? I got China 5 spice and ras el hanout (cloves, allspice, black pepper, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, mace, turmeric, rosebuds, cumin, white pepper, coriander, saffron, nutmeg, bay leaves, paprika). What would work best and how much (tspn) do you think? :)

PUL Team - May 13, 2024, 2:38 a.m.

Hey Galittza, the vegetable bouillon cube and water (2 Tbsp/30 mL for 3 servings) can be substituted for equal parts vegetable stock or broth, or you can simply omit it. We'd recommend giving the sauce a taste test in this case, and adding some salt or soy sauce if you think it needs it. We haven't tried with Chinese Five Spice or Ras el Hanout, but do let us know if you test either out 🤗

Deepti Kharbanda - May 7, 2024, 11:36 a.m.

Loved it , thank you for sharing the recipe , god bless❤️

Sarah DeLeon - May 2, 2024, 11:51 p.m.

This is delicious. Since the recipe was created, I have made it many, many times. It pleases everyone in my house, which is exceptionally rare.

Freyha - April 14, 2024, 7:21 p.m.

One of the best recipes for us!

sarah - April 13, 2024, 3 p.m.

So good!

Dulcie - April 11, 2024, 3:26 a.m.

Absolutely delicious. Had to drop the cabbage as I’m intolerant and it was still yummy 😍

Donna Cartier - April 11, 2024, 12:30 a.m.

Fantastic flavor and incredibly fast. So easy to personalize with anything you have on hand. I doubled the sauce (because we're saucy like that).

PUL Team - April 11, 2024, 3:36 a.m.

So glad that you enjoyed the chow mein, Donna! A lovely idea to add more sauce 🙌

Jessica - April 7, 2024, 9:46 p.m.

Delicious, fast, and easy! I used soy curls instead of mock chicken. Other times I've used air fried tofu but it's always a fantastic meal.

PUL Team - April 8, 2024, 4:12 a.m.

Yayy so happy to hear the Vegan Chow Mein is being enjoyed, Jessica ✨

Lisa - April 5, 2024, 10:20 p.m.

This might possibly be my favourite P recipe of all times! Except for one
the time when I used regular sesame oil instead of toasted - a very disappointing result compared to the usual rich flavours.

Ana - April 1, 2024, 4:01 p.m.

Amazing, will make again!

Otilia - March 30, 2024, 12:53 p.m.

Adictive

Janci - March 29, 2024, 6:32 p.m.

One of my favorite things ever. It's a little work with chopping all the veggies (I'm slow) BUT ITS SO GOOOOOOD. My entire family loves this and I always have to double it 😭💗

Peter Ulok - March 27, 2024, 9:39 p.m.

One of our favourite dishes since we tried it. Could eat this everyday.

Ana - March 26, 2024, 11:17 p.m.

Really delicious 😊

Cindy - March 24, 2024, 8:40 p.m.

Homemade comfort food, you can’t beat it!

Serena Di Sabatino Di Diodoro - March 22, 2024, 9:59 p.m.

Unfortunately for my taste the sauce was too strong and overpowering 😔 it might be the brand of my dark soy sauce though. Maybe I should try with a different one 🤷‍♀️

PUL Team - March 24, 2024, 8:06 p.m.

Hey Serena, sorry to hear the sauce wasn't to your liking. You could use regular low-sodium soy sauce instead or experiment with a different brand of dark soy sauce to adjust the flavour to your preference. You could also try reducing the amount of dark soy sauce or balancing it with a bit more water or sweetness to mellow out the flavour. Hopefully, with a few tweaks, it'll be perfect next time! 🤗

Eric Altmayer - March 15, 2024, 9 p.m.

This turned out exceptionally well! You are not kidding when you say you will make it again and again! Very flavourful and satisfying.

Jacqui - March 12, 2024, 12:08 a.m.

Great recipe but the sauce was not enough for me to coat the whole thing. In my opinion, it needs at least double the amount of sauce, which is what I did and it came out juicy. It's a great recipe!

Dotka - March 10, 2024, 3:46 p.m.

I've never actually made whole recipe but the sauce... that's my ultimate solution for "I don't know what's for dinner" problem xD just toss some random stuff on wok and pour the sauce, never disappoints.

PUL Team - March 11, 2024, 7:52 p.m.

Aww love having those go-to bases like sauce to make dinner easier. So glad you're enjoying it, Dotka!

Britt M - March 6, 2024, 5:10 a.m.

This was soooo good!

I was a little worried because I'm allergic to sesame seeds and I couldn't include sesame oil in the sauce. I was afraid it would lack in flavor, but this dish is anything but lacking! I bet with the toasted sesame oil it's 15 outta 10 stars 😋

PUL Team - March 6, 2024, 7:02 p.m.

Aw we're thrilled that the chow mein was enjoyed even without the sesame oil, Britt! Thank you 😊

Kim - March 3, 2024, 1:06 a.m.

Which "chickn" brand do you use with this? Thanks!

PUL Team - March 3, 2024, 1:53 a.m.

Hey Kim, we like Vivera and Vegetarische Slager brands. Two other common brands include Gardein and Tofurky if you're based in North America. We also have a PUL seitan recipe that would work https://www.pickuplimes.com/r… 🤗

Andrew - Feb. 27, 2024, 1:24 a.m.

I’ve been a long time Pick Up Limes fan, and I’ve enjoyed many of their recipes over the years. This might be the best Pick Up Limes recipe that I’ve ever tried. It’s delicious, comfy, and powerful. I literally gasped when I tried the first bite. Do yourself a favor and try this. I promise it’ll be so worth it!

PUL Team - Feb. 27, 2024, 10:40 p.m.

Gosh thank you for the glowing review and vote of confidence, Andrew! We're so thrilled that the vegan chow mein was enjoyed. Your support means the world as well 🥰

Ken MacDonald - Feb. 26, 2024, 12:03 a.m.

We doubled it and the only change I would make next time is to maybe cut back on the sesame oil a little to cut down on the oils. First thing we made and very impressed.

Winny Irmarooke - Feb. 25, 2024, 1:13 p.m.

I know what’s missing from this recipe, shallots! I added fried shallots and it tasted so moch better.

PUL Team - Feb. 25, 2024, 7:59 p.m.

A lovely idea to add shallots, Winny, thanks 🤗

Winny Irmarooke - Feb. 25, 2024, 1:08 p.m.

I think I know better recipe for this one

Amanda - Feb. 25, 2024, 2:57 p.m.

Please share your tips!

Ashley G. - Feb. 25, 2024, 6:24 a.m.

Made this tonight for the first time. Recipe was easy to follow - appreciated the video! Super tasty!! Definitely holding onto this recipe - will make again! A friend of mine was over for dinner when I made it and she asked for the recipe. Thanks so much! :)

PUL Team - Feb. 25, 2024, 7:47 p.m.

We're so glad that the vegan chow mein was enjoyed, Ashley! Thank you 🙂

Liesbeth - Feb. 23, 2024, 1:18 p.m.

Do you mean japanese soy sauce or indonesian style (ketjap)?

PUL Team - Feb. 23, 2024, 8:41 p.m.

Hey Liesbeth, we mean the Japanese soy sauce. Indonesian-style ketjap is thicker and sweeter than dark soy sauce, but you could use it as a substitute if you wanted :)

AJ - Feb. 28, 2024, 6:47 p.m.

Hi!
I'm just about to cook this recipe (a huge fan of many of your other recipies already though ;), and I got a bit confused about the soy sauce. In the video you didn't mention dark soy sauce, but under the ingredients you do. It's a huge difference between Japanese soy sauce which is normally called light and Chinese dark soy sauce. Japanese would swap well for Tamari as stated but Chinese dark is much stronger. Maybe you could specify which one you mean in the ingredient list? :) Thanks a lot!

PUL Team - Feb. 28, 2024, 11 p.m.

Hey AJ! We personally used a Japanese-style soy sauce, but a Chinese style will do as well. Both are thicker than general soy sauce :)

Diane K - Feb. 17, 2024, 11:51 p.m.

My husband and I love trying this recipe. We will make it again..

cwyourlivingspace wilson - Feb. 17, 2024, 11:42 p.m.

Loved it. Thanks

Heidi G - Feb. 16, 2024, 1:46 a.m.

I loved this. My child was not a fan of the cabbage. Curious what adaptions could be made so it would be more kid friendly. Shall I just use broccoli? Any other ideas?

PUL Team - Feb. 18, 2024, 2:24 a.m.

Hey Heidi, substituting cabbage with vegetables like broccoli or bell peppers could be a fun twist. You can also consider reducing the amount of cabbage or finely chopping it to make it less noticeable 🤗

Natalie - Feb. 13, 2024, 8:19 p.m.

Delicious!

Freya - Feb. 12, 2024, 11:38 a.m.

This had such potential but unfortunately the dark soy sauce we bought must’ve been wayyy darker than the one used in the recipe and the end result was darker than the photo, too strong and way too salty for my taste.

Kim - Feb. 6, 2024, 4:18 a.m.

Delicious! Its a rotation Keeper! I added sliced shitakes too!

Lynn - Feb. 1, 2024, 6:18 p.m.

Enjoyed it! I'm not a very good cook, but this was very easy to make and so delicious!

Schnappoui - Feb. 1, 2024, 2:20 p.m.

One of my family’s favorite PUL meals 😋 Just delicious

Laura - Jan. 29, 2024, 9:46 a.m.

My kids (nearly-8 and -5) and I worked together to cook this tonight. Admittedly a couple of changes (sweet chilli instead of sriracha, and we added a non-vegan option), but we all loved it. My daughter insisted that I rate this 5 stars, and I agree!

PUL Team - Jan. 30, 2024, 6:48 p.m.

Gosh thanks a bunch for taking the time to leave the review and welcome us into your kitchen, Laura! Hugs to you and your kiddos 🤗

Heidi G - Feb. 16, 2024, 1:48 a.m.

Thanks for the sweet chilli idea.

Ann-Louise - Jan. 28, 2024, 1:05 p.m.

My whole family absolutely love this dish! We have it at least once a week and it’s my 14 year old daughters favorite meal. ❤️

Mar s - Jan. 27, 2024, 6:30 p.m.

Can I substitute sesame oil for olive oil?

PUL Team - Jan. 29, 2024, 7:36 a.m.

Hey Mar, we prefer sesame oil for its distinct nutty flavour but you're welcome to use olive oil if you'd like 🙂

Keiko - Jan. 23, 2024, 9:57 a.m.

This is SOOO delicious!!!
It was the first time my husband ever liked anything with a meat substitute (I usually try to find recipes with other ingredients so he doesn't feel "tricked"). It was also the first time using napa cabbage. I do wonder what else to use if for though. We made it 2 nights last week but still had half a head of napa cabbage over.
Thank you for this amazing recipe!

PUL Team - Jan. 23, 2024, 10:23 p.m.

Hey Keiko, aw we're so happy to hear that the chow mein was enjoyed! Two ideas are you could use the leftover napa cabbage to make kimchi: https://www.pickuplimes.com/r… or salad: https://www.pickuplimes.com/r… 🙂

Keiko - Jan. 24, 2024, 10:56 a.m.

Oh I didn’t realize the website didn’t offer all of the recipes. I am not really interested in the app because I would only use the recipes and nothing else, but I guess I might consider it if I’m missing recipes.

PUL Team - Jan. 24, 2024, 7:07 p.m.

Hey Keiko, the kimchi recipe is one our website. Indeed the app has over 600 exclusive recipes with new recipes added each weekday. We'll keep sharing public content too though 🤗

John - Jan. 23, 2024, 3:20 a.m.

One of the best meals I have ever made for myself! I used tofu crumble instead of mock chicken and a whole head of Napa cabbage in place of the bok choy and it was fantastic! The sauce is truly incredible! So delicious! I am obsessed :)

Keiko - Jan. 23, 2024, 10 a.m.

I should have read this before I left my comment :) This is also a good idea! Or maybe I will try half and half to use them both up quicker.

Caitlin Higgins - Jan. 23, 2024, 1:25 a.m.

Super good! Really did taste similar to take out. I added mushroom, broccoli and snow peas. You could really get creative with the veggies.

Next time I'm going to try and lower the sodium in the sauce and see how it changes things.

Very good base recipe!

PUL Team - Jan. 23, 2024, 1:44 a.m.

Thanks for taking the time to leave the review, Caitlin! Happy experimenting 🤗

Megan - Jan. 22, 2024, 2:09 a.m.

This was so delicious - love all the healthy vegetables and it tasted like takeout but better :)

PUL Team - Jan. 22, 2024, 5:18 a.m.

Yayy we're so honoured to hear, Megan - thank you!

Lucy - Jan. 19, 2024, 12:54 p.m.

So delicious and very easy to make.

Em - Jan. 19, 2024, 2:21 a.m.

Great recipe. The sauce was excellent, and I appreciated the substitution options. I added in more veggies and different noodles (using what I had on hand) but it all worked really well. Family approved.

PUL Team - Jan. 19, 2024, 5:53 a.m.

Yay! So happy that the vegan chow mein was enjoyed, Em, thank you 🤩

Carole - Jan. 16, 2024, 7:44 p.m.

I love it! . Great recipe for a last minute meal. I add some tofu and it’s was really good. Thanks!

Peter Ulok - Jan. 16, 2024, 7:10 p.m.

Cooking this at least once a month since I discovered it. One of my favourite comfort dishes.

Roshni - Jan. 14, 2024, 10:23 p.m.

Can you use bouillon sauce instead of cube?

PUL Team - Jan. 15, 2024, 4:12 a.m.

Hey Roshni, yes, you can use bouillon sauce instead of a cube. We'd recommend starting with less, such as 1-2 teaspoons, and then adding more to your taste preferences. You can also add the water to the sauce last just in case the bouillon sauce has enough water content in it 😊

Smiti Nathan - Jan. 10, 2024, 11:42 p.m.

So I used the sauce to jazz up some broccoli and it was excellent. Next time, I think I will mix the corn starch and water first to make a slurry.

Emmy - Jan. 10, 2024, 4:33 p.m.

Love this recipe!

PS: You can 100% substitute dark soy sauce with any other soy sauce and it will taste great

Majo Zuniga - Jan. 10, 2024, 12:21 a.m.

Delicioso

Fatima - Jan. 9, 2024, 6:29 p.m.

Superlekker!!

Marianne Bloemendaal - Jan. 7, 2024, 4:32 p.m.

Ik kan dit blijven eten!!!!!!

Ashley Larson - Jan. 6, 2024, 1:43 a.m.

So good! I skipped the mock chicken and added more veggies instead. Love it 🧡

Julia Swan - Jan. 4, 2024, 5:21 p.m.

Omg, this is sooooo delicious! I make it quite often since I explored this recipe in the PUL App. I also like to experiment. Once I didn’t have mock chicken, so I skipped this, but it still was delicious. I experimented also with different noodles like ramen, udon or soba noodles. Every time it was still great. Today together with the mock chicken I also added shiitake mushrooms. So, it is just perfect recipe!

PUL Team - Jan. 4, 2024, 10:48 p.m.

Woohoo! We're so thrilled that you're enjoying the Vegan Chow Mein, Julia, and that's for welcoming the app into your kitchen 🤗

Maud - Jan. 3, 2024, 6:19 a.m.

Hello S. !
Soooooooo delicious ! thank you for adding tips and jo in the video ! I really do appreciate this recipe, so does my husband.
Have a nice day !
M.

PUL Team - Jan. 4, 2024, 12:15 a.m.

We appreciate the support and kind words so much more than we can express, Maud! We hope you have a lovely day too 🥰✨

Sarah DeLeon - Jan. 3, 2024, 2:11 a.m.

This is so good! I've made it several times. I didn't have any chicken substitute or tofu tonight, so I steamed some edamame to have on the side.

PUL Team - Jan. 4, 2024, 12:08 a.m.

A delicious idea, Sarah, thanks!

Kimberly Brann - Jan. 2, 2024, 12:34 a.m.

I’m planning to make tomorrow. Is it possible to sub the “chicken” with tofu?

PUL Team - Jan. 3, 2024, 8:36 p.m.

Hey Kimberly, you bet! We've heard lots of positive reviews with tofu 😊

Karmen H - Jan. 1, 2024, 7:55 p.m.

This was sooo good! Not sure we will ever use a different stir-fry sauce again!

Dency Tony - Dec. 29, 2023, 2:34 p.m.

Loved the recipe 🔥💕

Anju - Dec. 29, 2023, 3:58 a.m.

This is the best noodle dish! I'm addicted to it! I've made it every week since I first tried it a month ago. I use a bag of coleslaw mix (with the cabbage already chopped up) as a shortcut.

Allie - March 13, 2024, 9:38 p.m.

That's a great idea! The variety with julienned carrots in it would be great!

Davis - Dec. 24, 2023, 12:35 a.m.

Love this recipe and the option to change portion sizes was very helpful! Any suggestions on a protein to use for my daughter who can’t have soy or peas/pea protein?

PUL Team - Dec. 25, 2023, 11:49 a.m.

Hey Davis, seitan is the first thing that comes to mind. It's made from wheat gluten, has a meaty texture and is high in protein. You can find it at some grocery stores where the tofu is, and we'll be launching a number of seitan-based recipes into our app through the start of next year. I hope this helps for now!

Elaine Rose - Dec. 20, 2023, 12:43 p.m.

This has become a weeknight staple. A great base recipe, very quick to make. However, i did find the sauce in the original recipe a bit sesame oil heavy and not as spicy for my liking. Reducing the sesame oil by a third and adding a green chilli along with the onion and garlic fixed it for me. Have tried substituting napa cabbage with thinly sliced/shredded brussel sprouts - works perfectly. Highly recommend adding shiitake mushrooms.

PUL Team - Dec. 21, 2023, 6:33 p.m.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with it, Elaine 😊 it's a lovely idea to add green chili for some kick!

Anthony Scicluna - Dec. 19, 2023, 10:19 p.m.

I have tried a few chicken chow mein recipes at home but they where were always too salty and not like the take away versions - which I was trying to create. Anyhow our daughter who is vegetarian is back glom Uni for Xmas so I looked for a veggie version. Made it tonight and my god it was good! Used ‘What the Cluck’ chicken and I can honestly say it was better than any Chow Mein I have ever had. The balance of the sauce is spot on and the chopped spring onions and sprinkle of sesame seeds on top just before serving should be a must - not optional! Terrific. Thank you, this is a keeper for sure 👌

PUL Team - Dec. 20, 2023, 8:44 a.m.

We're so thrilled to hear the chow mein was a success, Anthony, thanks for the glowing review! We hope you enjoy your time with your daughter back at home too 😊✨

Jennifer Tijssen - Dec. 19, 2023, 6:09 p.m.

Another winner! Absolutely devoured this and already looking forward to the next time I'm making it. Tip: If you're cooking for 4 people, prepare a large pan or wok, it was overflowing from my largest sauté pan.

Nicole S. - Dec. 19, 2023, 12:28 a.m.

Freaking amazing! Going to make double batches to freeze for “take out” nights 😉

Anjali Thakur - Dec. 18, 2023, 6:08 p.m.

I tried this recipe. Really liked it. My friend liked it as well. Its very earthy and warm recipe. Thank you Sadia.

PUL Team - Dec. 19, 2023, 6:06 a.m.

Yay! We're so happy to hear the chow mein was enjoyed, Anjali, thank you ☺️

Helena - Dec. 15, 2023, 7:56 p.m.

Just made this! Really easy to make and so so good. I used smoked Tofu instead of the "chicken", worked really well!

Janette Morgan - Dec. 14, 2023, 8:51 p.m.

Made this tonight absolutely loved it🌱💚
100% will make this again, really tasty and super simple to make 😊 thank you 🫶🏽

PUL Team - Dec. 15, 2023, 8:08 a.m.

Woohoo! Happy cooking, Janette 🫶✨

Brigitte - Dec. 13, 2023, 8:21 p.m.

This is now a menu regular. Really tasty and so easy to make. I've been working my way though different vegan stir fry recipes. The cornflour in this makes all the difference!

PUL Team - Dec. 15, 2023, 1:55 a.m.

We're so happy to hear, Brigitte! Wishing you all the best on the rest of your vegan stir fry recipe adventures 🤗

Betul - Dec. 11, 2023, 4:48 p.m.

Love these! It’s become my go-to noodle recipe 😍

Lux - Dec. 10, 2023, 7:41 p.m.

Very yummy, definitely one for the "make more often" list, thanks!

Terhi - Dec. 8, 2023, 9:16 p.m.

Oh my goodness! I made this last night and it was SO good. I couldn´t find bok choy at the store, so I used collard greens instead. My 18-year-old son who doesn't like any greens took seconds - it was so yummy! I failed to prep everything ahead of time, so I was scrambling a bit, because everything kept cooking so quickly. :) Next time I will have everything ready chopped! This recipe just became our family favorite and I will be making it often. Thank you so much!

PUL Team - Dec. 9, 2023, 6:30 a.m.

Thrilled to hear you and your son enjoyed it, Terhi! Swapping bok choy for collard greens is a great idea. Happy cooking 🤗

Kim - Dec. 6, 2023, 11:59 p.m.

Delicious and easy to make. Haven't had a bad recipe from PUL yet, they are all good!

Leesha Cowan - Dec. 6, 2023, 6:30 p.m.

This is so very yummy and quick to make! I use maple syrup and I often change the serving size to 1 for lunch when working from home. 👌

PUL Team - Dec. 8, 2023, 7:39 p.m.

Yayy so happy that the vegan chow mein is being enjoyed, Leesha, thank you 🙌✨

danny - Dec. 3, 2023, 6:02 p.m.

Delicious and simple

Karne Steyn - Dec. 3, 2023, 12:02 p.m.

Quick and easy and versatile. Love the sauce, wow!
I used mushrooms instead of mock chicken and it turned out great

PUL Team - Dec. 4, 2023, 3:14 a.m.

A delicious substitution, Karne, thank you! 🤩

Mylene - Dec. 2, 2023, 3:59 p.m.

Perfect! Would 100% recommend!

Susan - Dec. 1, 2023, 11:11 a.m.

Loved this. So did my non vegan teens. Hoovered it up :)

Ines - Nov. 30, 2023, 8:11 p.m.

It was delicious and the amount of spice was just perfect :) very easy to make as well!

Melissa - Nov. 30, 2023, 3:05 a.m.

Turned out so good! Love all the fresh veggies in it. It was super easy to make too.

This meal looks and tastes so appetizing. Your recipes make me want to eat healthy! Thank you!

PUL Team - Nov. 17, 2023, 4:52 p.m.

Aw thanks, Gabrie - happy cooking! 🫶

Annie - Nov. 15, 2023, 8:16 p.m.

Can the sauce be made in advance and refrigerated?

PUL Team - Nov. 16, 2023, 10:23 p.m.

Hey Annie, definitely! Store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just be sure to give the sauce a good stir before using it 🤗

Andrea - Nov. 14, 2023, 7:10 p.m.

So good! Perfect for workdays! 💚

Sophie - Nov. 12, 2023, 8:49 a.m.

It's easily prepared and perfect if you're not having a lot of time but still want to enjoy a delicious meal. I'm definitely going to make it again.

PUL Team - Nov. 12, 2023, 11:18 p.m.

Yay we're so happy to hear, Sophie, thank you!

Anna - Nov. 9, 2023, 7:08 p.m.

Really looking forward to trying this! Any alternatives to the ½ vegetable bouillon cube?

PUL Team - Nov. 10, 2023, 3:50 p.m.

Hey Anna, the vegetable bouillon cube and water (2 Tbsp/30 mL for 3 servings) can be substituted for equal parts vegetable stock or broth, or you can simply omit it. We'd recommend giving the sauce a taste test in this case, and adding some salt or soy sauce if you think it needs it 🙂

Archie - Nov. 9, 2023, 3:06 p.m.

I made this today and it was delicious, definitely one I'll be doing again and again! I also added ginger and cayenne pepper for a bit of heat.

Viktoria Golovkina (ViktoriaGol) - Nov. 6, 2023, 3:37 p.m.

The recipe is absolutely delicious. And it’s so easy to follow the instructions. Although I’d put a small note at step 0 or 1 to start boiling the water 😅 I completely forgot

PUL Team - Nov. 6, 2023, 10:23 p.m.

So glad you enjoyed the recipe, Viktoria, and it's a great suggestion! I'll have a chat with the team about it as we'd want to be consistent across all recipes if this is a new feature we would want to implement, thanks again for bringing it to our attention 🤓

Olga - Nov. 3, 2023, 4:18 p.m.

I adore it! Very tasty, not so hard to make. This app made my life so much easier :D

PUL Team - Nov. 5, 2023, 9:29 p.m.

So glad you're enjoying the app, Olga, that means so much!

Lorrie McFadden - Nov. 3, 2023, 4:37 a.m.

I love your recipes. Unfortunately, I have a soy allergy and I’m always looking for alternatives for soy sauce. Any suggestions on making alternatives like coconut aminos taste more like soy in your recipes?

PUL Team - Nov. 3, 2023, 9:23 a.m.

Hey Lorrie, I'm delighted to hear that you enjoy the recipes! For a soy sauce substitute, coconut aminos is indeed a great option. To make it taste more like traditional soy sauce, you could try adding a little bit of sea salt for more of that salty depth. You could also consider using a soy-free sauce like Tamari (it traditionally contains soy but there are some soy-free options on the market). If you're looking for more complexity in the umami flavor, adding a small amount of mushroom powder can also enhance the flavour profile. Remember to adjust these additions gradually and taste as you go to find the balance that works best for you.

Lorrie McFadden - Nov. 3, 2023, 5:29 p.m.

Thank you for your speedy reply! I’m going to try some chickpea miso as it is both umami and salty and see what happens. I’ve added salt but it lacks that interest that soy sauce has. I will try it on this recipe!

Sarah - Oct. 31, 2023, 8:05 p.m.

My whole family loved this recipe, I’ll definitely be making it again!

Lee - Oct. 24, 2023, 12:52 a.m.

Excellent! I used different veg and Shandong ramen noodles. I also used tofu dredged in cornstarch and Chinese 5-spice. There wasn't enough sauce for hubby and I, so I doubled that part of the recipe.

Sophia - Oct. 20, 2023, 5:28 p.m.

Making this tonight!

Arpi - Oct. 20, 2023, 2:21 a.m.

OMG it was a flavor explosion in my mouth !!!!

Sally - Oct. 20, 2023, 1:36 a.m.

Just made this for dinner - wow, so good! My husband and I loved it. Easy to prepare and quick to cook and so tasty. Instead of the fake 'chicken' I used roasted portabella mushrooms.
Definitely part of our ongoing menus. Thanks

Sophia - Oct. 20, 2023, 5:27 p.m.

Love the idea to use mushrooms!

Sarah Kowalski - Oct. 19, 2023, 6:54 p.m.

So tasty! I make ramen with rice noodles often and this was like a non-soup version. Definitely will make a again!

Ben - Oct. 17, 2023, 1:34 p.m.

My boyfriend said this was the best thing I ever cooked and he was right, this is delicious

PUL Team - Oct. 17, 2023, 9:49 p.m.

Such a big compliment, Ben! Thank you ☺️✨

Lauren - Oct. 17, 2023, 5:10 a.m.

This was really good. I made it for my non-vegan roommates and they loved it. It was also really easy with minimal prep after a 10hr work day.

Kat Kow - Oct. 16, 2023, 7:32 p.m.

Easy and delicious!

kse - Oct. 15, 2023, 9:30 p.m.

I love noodles and these are always a good for a go to!! I put tofu and the veggies that I had at home, that's why I like them, very versatile 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜

Caitlin Trachim - Oct. 15, 2023, 12:26 a.m.

This was so easy and so good! My kids loved it. Definitely making this again.

Ka Ming - Oct. 13, 2023, 4:40 p.m.

It was sooo delicious! My husband is now carrying a huge food baby.

Joyce - Oct. 12, 2023, 11:47 p.m.

Love it!! I made a soy-free, non-vegan version. Delicious! 😋

Jihane El Ghozail - Oct. 12, 2023, 2:41 a.m.

Tested it and loved it! 😋😋

Lisbeth - Oct. 11, 2023, 10:28 p.m.

I didn’t have the right noodles for this so I just used vermicelli rice noodles instead and it was still delicious! Adding to our household recipes for sure 😋

PUL Team - Oct. 12, 2023, 5:59 p.m.

So glad that the vegan chow mein was enjoyed with vermicelli rice noodles, Lisbeth 😃

Anon - Oct. 10, 2023, 6:46 p.m.

Good

EB - Oct. 9, 2023, 7:57 p.m.

What is the difference between dark and light soy sauce? Currently making this recipe. :)

PUL Team - Oct. 9, 2023, 8:57 p.m.

Hey EB, dark soy sauce is generally thicker, richer, and has a more intense flavour compared to light soy sauce. It's often used for colour and depth in dishes, whereas light soy sauce is lighter in colour and flavour, and typically used for seasoning. We hope you enjoy the chow mein ✨

Pk - Nov. 11, 2023, 9:31 p.m.

Although I have used it, I never really understood the significance of soy sauce in a dish. It has quite a salty note but other than that it doesn't have a taste that contributes to the flavor of a dish. Any insight on this?

PUL Team - Nov. 11, 2023, 10:59 p.m.

Hey Pk, soy sauce indeed offers a salty flavour but we also enjoy the umami flavours that it provides for taste and depth 😊

Regina - Oct. 7, 2023, 7:39 p.m.

So yummy and warming. Super easy to cook!

Alfonsina Solines - Oct. 5, 2023, 6:28 a.m.

I'm trying this tomorrow. Is there a side dish like a salad or maybe a soup you recommend to serve the noodles with.
Thanks!

PUL Team - Oct. 5, 2023, 10:56 p.m.

Hey Alfonsina, we hope you enjoy the chow mein! Stir-fried veggies like bok choy, a side of spring rolls (https://www.pickuplimes.com/r…), miso soup, and vegan hot and sour soup (https://www.pickuplimes.com/r…) are some ideas. Happy cooking 🤗

Alfonsina Solines - Oct. 5, 2023, 11:03 p.m.

Thanks!!! That will be great if you could suggest the same on each recipe, what to have on a side to have a complete meal. I know you have it on the nourishing section but you got me! It's an awesome app I love it thank you so much for all your efforts. Your biggest fan from Ecuador!

PUL Team - Oct. 5, 2023, 11:17 p.m.

Thanks for the feedback, Alfonsina! It's been a labour of love to make the PUL app so it means the world that you're enjoying it too. Sending lots of love to Ecuador 🥰

Charly - Oct. 3, 2023, 10 a.m.

Had everything at home, put it together and it was delicious! You can also deepfreeze the portions.

Sofia - Oct. 2, 2023, 5:32 p.m.

This is so delicious and such a nice change from my usual recipe roster, especially because it sneaks cabbage into my diet (which I normally struggle to enjoy)! I love the sauce in particular, it really brings the dish together and I'll be using it with other veggie combos. A lot of chopping but very easy to make and it comes together in around an hour! Really recommend it!

PUL Team - Oct. 3, 2023, 4:16 a.m.

Thank you for the vote of confidence and recommendation, Sofia - it means a lot 🥰

Esther - Oct. 2, 2023, 3:20 a.m.

A favourite with our family as well!!
Thanks, Sadia
from a fellow Canadian🇨🇦

PUL Team - Oct. 2, 2023, 4:59 p.m.

Thank you, Esther! Sending lots of love to Canada 🥰

Isabelle - Oct. 1, 2023, 7:47 p.m.

Soo goood😍 We already made it twice in one week. Huge recommendation

PUL Team - Oct. 1, 2023, 11:25 p.m.

Your recommendation means so much, Isabelle - thank you!

Suzy S. - Oct. 1, 2023, 12:48 p.m.

Definitely on the regular rotation now! Super delicious and easy. Very important to have all the ingredients ready to go when it's time to cook, haha 😅

Keisha - Oct. 1, 2023, 7:21 a.m.

Love this recipe so much, we've added this to our rotation! I recommend using half dark soy sauce and half light, for a bit of extra flavour :) Thank you PUL team!

R - Sept. 29, 2023, 8:03 p.m.

Very good! Don’t skip the cabbage if possible:) It added so much flavor.

Lekha - Sept. 29, 2023, 7:11 a.m.

Good, I’d probably prefer slightly lower soy sauce

Kira M Rich - Sept. 28, 2023, 11:53 p.m.

Can’t wait to try this!!

Nova - Sept. 26, 2023, 10 a.m.

I didnt have bok choi or the cabbage but i used edamame instead! For some reason I thought the finished product was lacking a bit of flavor? Or it didnt really taste as rich as I thought it was gonna taste. Maybe because the noodles sucked up all the sauce? But i added more soy sauce, rice vinagre, agave syrup and siracha and that did the trick! Overall great recipe! ❤️

PUL Team - Sept. 26, 2023, 7:05 p.m.

Hey there, Nova, thanks for sharing your experience with the chow mein! The lack of flavour could be a result of the noodle-to-sauce ratio being too high in case you might have used more noodles or a different type of noodle. Glad that the extra sauces did the trick though 😃

August Vicars - Sept. 26, 2023, 3:28 a.m.

No lie, this became an instant favorite. The ingredients were so simple and everything came together perfectly; 10/10 would make again

PUL Team - Sept. 26, 2023, 6:58 p.m.

Woop woop! Thank you, August, it's one of our favourites 🤩

marie - Sept. 25, 2023, 6:43 p.m.

SO good!! Will be making this on repeat 🔁

Lindsay Hudkins - Sept. 25, 2023, 11:41 a.m.

The whole family liked it 👌🏼

Bahar Bakhtary - Sept. 25, 2023, 4:14 a.m.

Just made this and it was amazing! Thanks Sadia ☺️

Quynh - Sept. 24, 2023, 5:49 p.m.

I was really excited to try this recipe after watching the YouTube video, and it sounded very promising that the whole PUL team was obsessed with this dish. Unfortunately, I found that the dish lacks a bit of flavor and that extra oomph that I was hoping for. I won't make it again. It is important to note that I'm Vietnamese and used to bolder flavors, so this version does not do it for me.

PUL Team - Sept. 24, 2023, 6:26 p.m.

Hey Quynh, thanks for taking the time to share your experience, did you substitute or omit any ingredients? The lack of flavour could be a result of the noodle-to-sauce ratio being too high. We strive for five-star quality recipes, so it's disheartening that we've fallen short of our standard. We appreciate you taking the time to share this to help us improve and grow though. We hope you're able to enjoy the other recipes on our website nonetheless ✨ 🫶

Natalie - Sept. 24, 2023, 4:55 p.m.

So GOOD!!! I’ve tried a few chow main recipes in the past and this is definitely the winner!

Stephany - Sept. 24, 2023, 1:58 p.m.

Absolutely to die for. Even my husband was impressed

Loes Gorseling - Sept. 24, 2023, 12:18 p.m.

Absolutely loved it! We added shiitake mushroom and we did miss a little bit of crunch so added some salted peanuts. Will definitely make again.

PUL Team - Sept. 24, 2023, 6:19 p.m.

A lovely idea to add peanuts, Loes! We're so happy to hear the chow mein was enjoyed ☺️

Sigrid - Sept. 23, 2023, 5:43 p.m.

This recipe is just perfection! Thank you for sharing 😉

Jack - Sept. 23, 2023, 4:47 p.m.

When I made this I mistakenly added a lot less cabbage but it was still delicious despite my mistake 😋

Sara M - Sept. 22, 2023, 7:49 p.m.

My husband came in while I was watching this video, and said “Yum, that looks good. Are you gonna make it?” We immediately went to the grocery store and got bok choy and napa cabbage, which I’ve never cooked with before. I already had all the other ingredients! We both loved the delicious flavor, textures, and healthful goodness of this dish. I loved how simple, quick and easy it was. I even enjoy the zen of veggie prep. It’s a good thing this keeps in the frig for a few days, cuz the recipe for 3 servings made enough for 6. (We always save room for dessert.)

PUL Team - Sept. 23, 2023, 4:56 p.m.

Oh how fun to cook with bok choy and napa cabbage for the first time! Thank you for sharing your experience with the vegan chow mein, Sara 🫶✨

louise - Sept. 22, 2023, 7:40 p.m.

A little too sweet, so I’ll make again with less agave

camille - Sept. 22, 2023, 1:43 p.m.

Yummy noodles, the sauce is incredible!

Jamie Corssen - Sept. 21, 2023, 12:03 a.m.

SO delicious, family devoured + said it was like a restaurant meal 💗 I didn’t have a bulllion cube and omitted it + don’t think we missed it- this app is THE BEST!!!

PUL Team - Sept. 21, 2023, 1:37 a.m.

Woohoo 🥳 We work super hard on the app and are so thrilled that it's being enjoyed, Jamie. We're excited to continue our culinary journey together!

Stephany - Sept. 24, 2023, 2 p.m.

When do you think the app will be available for Android?

PUL Team - Sept. 24, 2023, 5:55 p.m.

Hey Stephany, we're really hoping before the end of the year! We started our first phase of testing last week so fingers crossed there are no bumps in the road 🤞

Lisa K - Sept. 20, 2023, 8:29 p.m.

I made this last night for me and my husband. The only change I made was to make 1.5 times the sauce. I had a LOT of vegetables and the original amount seemed just a bit scant to me. I also added some fresh mung bean sprouts to the scallion and toasted sesame seeds as a garnish. By using store-bought shredded carrots, this came together in a little over 30 minutes. I also found that my "chiken" strips didn't shred that well, so just cubed them and it worked perfectly. We actually liked that the cubes had a bit of bite that you might not get with shredding. All in all, this dish had so much flavor, great textures and was a real comfort food. So much better, fresher, lighter than restaurant Chinese food. I had leftovers for lunch and it was wonderful! I will gladly make this again.

PUL Team - Sept. 21, 2023, 1:35 a.m.

Oh, Lisa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with the chow mein! Cubed bites sound lovely for a bit of texture. Happy cooking 🫶

Dana - Sept. 20, 2023, 3:50 p.m.

Yum! Will definitely make again. I'd love to see some other sauce flavor rotations that I can do with this recipe.

Dana - Sept. 20, 2023, 3:50 p.m.

Yum! Will definitely make again. I'd love to see some other sauce flavor rotations that I can do with this recipe.

Jade - Sept. 20, 2023, 1:11 p.m.

I was so shocked at how tasty this dish was! I have made asian-inspired dishes in the past and it never tastes as good as when I get it take-away, but this one tastes BETTER than take-away. Will definitely be making this one again (and again!).

PUL Team - Sept. 21, 2023, 1:30 a.m.

Such as big compliment, Jade! We're so honoured that the chow mein impressed, and we hope our recipes continue to meet that standard ✨🌟

Madeline - Sept. 20, 2023, 8:48 a.m.

Fantastic recipe when I’m craving Panda Express, I will add more veggies next time like mini corn and water chestnuts. I feel you could add any veg to this and it will be amazing

PUL Team - Sept. 21, 2023, 1:28 a.m.

Mini corn and water chestnuts are lovely ideas, Madeline - thank you! Happy cooking 🤗

Natasha - Sept. 20, 2023, 1:39 a.m.

Amazing!!!! We loved this dish. So much flavor. Can’t wait to have it again-SOON!

Charlotte - Sept. 20, 2023, 12:43 a.m.

These noodles were a real hit! I especially loved the combination of bok choy and cabbage together with the noodles and sauce. I used tofu which worked really well too.

Nadia S - Sept. 19, 2023, 9:40 p.m.

This week was my second time making it and it just yummy! The sauce is so tasty *chef kiss*. I doubled the sauce to have more of it for the extra noodles I made. Thank you PUL team!

PUL Team - Sept. 21, 2023, 1:06 a.m.

Gotta love saucy goodness! Thank you, Nadia 😊

Guilherme Ostrock - Sept. 19, 2023, 9:37 p.m.

I was searching for an easy and quick recipe for a delicious meal, and when I came across this one claiming to be effortless, I thought I had hit the jackpot.

But alas, this recipe turned out to be more of a dream than a reality. Not because it's easy and fast (35 minutes total prep time? Really?), even tough I have at least 10 years of cooking experience under my belt. I may not be the most skilled chef, but for goodness' sake, can we at least get an accurate estimate of the preparation time, from grabbing the vegetables in the fridge to properly chopping and organizing everything?

The option to scale up the recipe is a nice touch, but did anyone bother to check if it actually works after altering the quantity of servings? It's not just about creating a widget to multiply the zeroDotSomething variable (what on earth is a 0.67 napa cabbage anyway? The world uses grams/kilograms or at least the cumbersome imperial system), if in reality, you need an industrial-sized kitchen to combine everything.

This isn't the first impractical recipe I've tried, but because my wife enjoys your site, I thought, "Let's give it a try." Nevermore.

PUL Team - Sept. 19, 2023, 10:11 p.m.

Hey there, Guilherme, I'm truly sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with the recipe and our website. We strive to provide high-quality content, so it's disheartening that we've fallen short of our standard. We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns, it helps us improve and grow 🙂

One key to the speed provided is to organize some of the ingredients while others are cooking, such as the noodles. This is what we were hoping to highlight in the accompanying video and in the way we structured the directions. The exact weight of veggies can vary, so we've avoided putting a gram measurement for fruits/veg on our site to promote less strict measuring. This is in contrast to our baking recipes, which do require more strict measurements, so these always contain gram amounts. We've taken note of your feedback and in the meantime hope that your wife continues to enjoy our content. If you have any other concerns we can always be reached at [email protected] 💌

Célia - Sept. 19, 2023, 11:49 a.m.

This recipe was bomb!!!! It is easy and delicious. Thank you so much!

Visha Shah - Sept. 19, 2023, 3:30 a.m.

Tried this tonight and it was amazing!!! I used buckwheat soba noodles instead of chow mein and the husband loved it!

Vanessa James - Sept. 19, 2023, 2:49 a.m.

Super yummy! My husband and I both enjoyed it !

Michelle S. - Sept. 19, 2023, 2:02 a.m.

I need a sharper knife with all the chopping and a larger pan for my family of 5, but we’ll worth the effort!

Ann - Sept. 18, 2023, 7:48 p.m.

It was a really delicious recipe. Probably took me an hour from getting ingredients out to completing cooking. I thought there may be too strong a flavour from the sesame oil but it was absolutely fine . This will be a regular recipe for us. I used savoy cabbage in place of the Chinese cabbage. Thank you for the recipe.

priscilla - Sept. 18, 2023, 6:46 p.m.

Heerlijk!!!! Had het met peasmaker gemaakt maar die vond ik te zacht. Volgende keer met de “kip stukjes”. Maar voor herhaling vatbaar.

Divya Chandramohan - Sept. 18, 2023, 6:40 p.m.

Tried this recipe for dinner last night and it was amazing! I loved the sauce was subtle but had a lot of flavor. I substituted with tofu and the veggies I had on hand. My husband had it for lunch the next day and said it was even tastier with the flavors absorbed

Baccy - Sept. 18, 2023, 5:12 p.m.

Hi! I saw this recipe last week and immediately tried it, it was fantastic! So tasty and good and the flavors go together very well! Making it the second time now haha!

PUL Team - Sept. 19, 2023, 7:25 a.m.

Yayy we're so happy the vegan chow mein was enjoyed, Baccy - it's one of our favourites! ✨

Victoria - Sept. 18, 2023, 4:35 p.m.

Delicious ! <3

pascale - Sept. 18, 2023, 1:10 p.m.

great receipie

Svenja - Sept. 18, 2023, 8:40 a.m.

Delicious! This recipe is saved.

Kristen - Sept. 18, 2023, 3:43 a.m.

SO GOOD! Was able to find gluten free ramen noodles and did tofu. My husband is raving about the onion chopping technique you shared on the video! I’ve never seen him so giddy about chopping an onion!

PUL Team - Sept. 19, 2023, 7:15 a.m.

Woop woop! Love that the onion chopping technique came in handy too, Kristen 🤩

Stacy Williams - Sept. 18, 2023, 2:49 a.m.

Super Delicious! A Keeper.

Janina C - Sept. 17, 2023, 9:40 p.m.

Thank you for sharing this fantastic noodle dish! I’m not vegan but my husband and I love trying vegan dishes. I did not add the mock chicken so it was all vegetables and that sauce is fantastic! I couldn’t find chow neon noodles so I had to use what I found which were Cantonese egg noodles and they were great. Thanks again!

Chit Ra... - Sept. 17, 2023, 6:35 p.m.

Hello there: just stumbled on this post and I’m wondering what kind of noodles did you use? Any brand recommendations?

PUL Team - Sept. 19, 2023, 7 a.m.

Hey Chit, we use a vegan chow mein noodle from our local Asian supermarket but you could use any noodle. Ramen noodles will work if they're more accessible. We hope you love the chow mein if you're able to give it a try!☺️

Jeannie from Canada - Sept. 17, 2023, 4:33 a.m.

Loved this! And my teenagers did too! ♥️🤩

sylvie - Sept. 17, 2023, 1:14 a.m.

Delicious and easy to make!

Shanti - Sept. 15, 2023, 11:13 p.m.

Hi Team PUL,
I always get confused when soy sauce is in the recipe. As you know Sadia, in The Netherlands we have sweet and salty soy sauce. I can never tell which one to use, because they both give a different taste. Which one is used here, please? Maybe you can give me the name of the brand so I can get that one. Otherwise I have ketjap mani, ketjap asin, and Japanese soy sauce. Not only do all three of them taste differently, but the consistency of each varies as well.

PUL Team - Sept. 16, 2023, 7:48 p.m.

Hey there, Shanti, apologies for any confusion. When we refer to soy sauce we mean the Japanese version (the salty one) and not ketjap (the sweet Indonesian variety). The Kikkoman brand is the one we use most often. Enjoy the recipe if you give it a try :)

Wim - Sept. 16, 2023, 10:33 p.m.

Hi Shanti,
I am also from Holland and I was having the same issue. I made it with the Japanse kind, because there is also agave syrup in there and I don't want this to be so sweet. It worked very well. For the rest I did stick to the recipe. I did use the less salt variety. @pickuplimes keep up the good work, you're an inspiration and made made my transition to vegan a lot easier. 🙏

Shanti - Sept. 16, 2023, 10:56 p.m.

Hi Wim, thanks for you reply and the advice. I ended up using ketjap asin because it is salty and in the video it seemed Sadia was using something with a thick consistency but also a salty accord. The agave syrup balanced it out nicely. I made it today and it was so delicious. All the best on your plant-based journey. There are so many great YouTubers out there with fantastic recipes like Rainbow Plant Life, Yeung Man Cooking, Minimalist Baker, and Plant-Based School. Gaz Oakley has wonderful videos, too. Have a great weekend!

Aneta - Sept. 15, 2023, 10:34 p.m.

This was delicious! 🥰 The sauce is a game changer 😍 sooo yummy!

PUL Team - Sept. 15, 2023, 10:44 p.m.

We're so glad the chow mein was enjoyed, Aneta, thank you!

Helen - Sept. 15, 2023, 8:20 p.m.

Wow! Yummy 😋

Justine Marchand - Sept. 15, 2023, 7:19 p.m.

This was really quick and easy for a week night. I made a bunch of tweaks (different noods, different veg) to suit what I had in the house already, but left the sauce the same and it was very tasty!

Ss - Sept. 14, 2023, 9:59 p.m.

Perfect, really good

Ashley - Sept. 13, 2023, 6:22 p.m.

This was delicious. I added a little peanut butter with the other sauce ingredients...it came out amazing.

Magdalena - Sept. 13, 2023, 12:43 p.m.

This is such a simple but so delicious recipe 🤤 couldn't stop eating!

Séverine - Sept. 13, 2023, 6:24 a.m.

beautiful ! I'll try it right away ! thank you

Diann - Sept. 13, 2023, 3:52 a.m.

Great flavors - easy to make

Angelique Armstrong - Sept. 13, 2023, 1:48 a.m.

Excellent 🙌

Malia - Sept. 13, 2023, 12:24 a.m.

Excited to try this, but wondering if the PUL team has any recommendations for the mock chicken? I'm new to the mock-meat game and am worried I'll get one that's not so yum. Thanks!

Tara - Sept. 13, 2023, 3:37 a.m.

I second this! I’ve not attempted any mock-chicken brands so would love some direction!

PUL Team - Sept. 13, 2023, 7:40 p.m.

Hey Malia and Tara, the mock chicken we use is the Albert Heijn house brand here in the Netherlands, although any non-breaded option would work. Two other common brands include Gardein and Tofurky if you're based in North America 😃

Clarissa - Sept. 12, 2023, 11:41 p.m.

Just made this for lunch and it was such an amazing fast recipe that really impressed everyone. Added some ginger because I had some and it worked with the flavors. Next time I might try finishing with some fresh lime juice just for some extra zing (though it wouldn't be traditionally chow- mein-y).

PUL Team - Sept. 13, 2023, 7:36 p.m.

Ginger and lime are a lovely idea to add a twist to the chow mein! Thank you, Clarissa 😊

Kimberly Brann - Sept. 12, 2023, 7:41 p.m.

About to go to the grocery store and just curious what kind of noodles - rice, ramen, Udon? Not sure if type of noodle matters, but I want to get it right because this looks yummy!

PUL Team - Sept. 13, 2023, 3:41 a.m.

Hey Kimberly, we use a vegan chow mein noodle from our local Asian supermarket but you could use any noodle. Ramen noodles will work if they're more accessible 🤗

Maryam Khan - Sept. 12, 2023, 3:17 a.m.

Saw the video on your Youtube channel today and my immediate thought was mmm I have to try this! Gathered all the ingredients and with your instructions it was so easy to create. I did use chicken instead of the vegan option, which took longer to cook but turned out great. We all loved this recipe, thank you so much!!! <3
Sincerely,
Maryam Khan.

Lizzy - Sept. 12, 2023, 1:10 a.m.

Saw the recipe last evening and knew I wanted to waste no time and try it today. And it was absolutly amazing. Even my Sister who is a great cook said it tasted like in the restaurant.
PUL recipes have truely never failed me. Cant belive I get all these wonderful vegan recipes for free! Thank you and a warm hug to the whole team <3

PUL Team - Sept. 13, 2023, 12:12 a.m.

Aww we're so honoured that the recipe and other PUL content have been enjoyed, Lizzy! Sending a warm hug back 🤗

Becky - Sept. 12, 2023, 1:01 a.m.

Made for dinner tonight, super delicious! Added zucchini as I couldn’t find bok choy at my local grocery store.

Liz - Sept. 12, 2023, 12:11 a.m.

Thank you for sharing this recipe! We Loved it. I had to do some tweaks bc I didn’t have all the ingredients, but still was so delish.

Oksana - Sept. 11, 2023, 9 p.m.

Thank you for sharing this simple and delicious recipe! Didn't have a bok choy at hand, so replaced it with a few celery sticks (for stems) and some spinach (for leaves) - and it turned out great! Next time will stick 100% to the recipe just to see if I didn't miss out on any interesting nuances to the flavour by messing a bit with the indregients. ;)

PUL Team - Sept. 11, 2023, 9:16 p.m.

Hehe love the recipe adapting, Oksana! We're confident you'll also enjoy the original version when you're able to give it a try 😎

TJ - Sept. 11, 2023, 4:25 p.m.

Simple, delicious and the whole family loved it! Doubled the recipe (love the scaling feature) and it was perfect!

PUL Team - Sept. 11, 2023, 9:10 p.m.

Woohoo - we love the scaling feature to help with doubling dishes ☺️ thank you, TJ!

Sina - Sept. 11, 2023, 2:33 p.m.

This was absolutely delicious and very flavourful! I didn't have to add any additional salt or other seasoning. And took me 30 minutes, start to finish :-)
Instead of bok choy and napa cabbage I used swiss chard - we have a lot of it growing in our garden right now so that was what I had to use, plus carrots and bell pepper. I think this recipe will be good with a variety of vegetables and proteins.

PUL Team - Sept. 11, 2023, 9:06 p.m.

Homegrown Swiss chard sounds lovely, Sina! This chow mein is indeed super versatile for a variety of veggies and proteins 😃

charles - Sept. 11, 2023, 8:04 a.m.

Bomb recipe!

Laura - Sept. 11, 2023, 5:59 a.m.

I didn't have sriracha, so I subbed gochujang. No napa cabbage or bok choy, so I used about 2/3 of a head of green cabbage. No bouillon cube so I left that out. I 1.5x'ed the sauce and added more carrot, plus used edamame instead of fake chicken. It was easy and tasted good. Next time I'll add more gochujang and chili crisp for heat.

PUL Team - Sept. 11, 2023, 6:15 p.m.

Oh thank you for sharing your experience with the vegan chow mein, Laura, it's so appreciated 🥰

nedajane - Sept. 11, 2023, 12:56 a.m.

Hmm- this was OK. I felt like it lacked flavor unfortunately so I doubled the sauce ingredients and added some gochujang. Not sure I’d make this again but it was a quick dinner to throw together and will last me all week for leftovers.

PUL Team - Sept. 11, 2023, 3:29 a.m.

Hey Nedajane, thanks for taking the time to share your experience, did you substitute or omit any ingredients? The dish is rather saucy as is, so I'm wondering if maybe you used more noodles than us? In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the leftovers! 🤗

Colette - Sept. 10, 2023, 11:10 p.m.

Omg, this is dangerously good! Will definitely be making it again. If I refrigerate the leftovers, any tips on reheating them?

PUL Team - Sept. 11, 2023, 3:15 a.m.

So happy to hear, Colette! To reheat the chow mein leftovers, we prefer to warm it up on the stove over medium-low heat with a splash of water or sauce to prevent drying, and covering with a lid helps. Otherwise, you can also microwave it in short intervals, stirring in between, until heated 😊

Sophie - Sept. 10, 2023, 9:27 p.m.

Just happened to have everything needed to make this recipe and YES!! It was incredible I will definitely be making this again!

PUL Team - Sept. 11, 2023, 3:08 a.m.

Woop woop! Sounds like it was meant to be, Sophie, thank you 🤩
