This protein-packed soup requires little supervision, takes only a few minutes to prep, and simmers away on the stove by itself until it's ready to be enjoyed! We aways like to make a huge pot, and store batches in the freezer to enjoy later on.

Wow, you're such a master in what you do! I have made some of your recipes and you're truely so talented! I love you're beautiful website, the AMAZING recipes, the way you present everything and give options when something is not available. Some kind of passion you have! A question about this one: if you dont have onion and garlic powder can i just replace it with more onion and garlic? Im so excited to make the recipe! You make cooking so much fun and easy!

PUL Team - Nov. 29, 2021, 12:04 a.m.

Hey Wendy, you're too kind! It means so much that the website and PUL content are being enjoyed 😊 The onion and garlic powder help give the soup a more concentrated flavour with less bulk, although feel free to use fresh onion and garlic to taste if desired. We hope you enjoy the soup 😃

Wendy Meert - Nov. 30, 2021, 1:39 p.m.

Thank you so much for your reply! My lentils were a bit soft. I think maybe I overcooked it?

PUL Team - Dec. 1, 2021, 1:51 a.m.

Hi Wendy, mushy lentils are usually a sign we might have overcooked them. It can be tricky to avoid this on the first try 😊 Lowering the heat a tad so the lentils don't jump around as much in the pot, and reducing the overall cooking time should help. Taste-testing as the lentils cook might also be helpful to gauge how much time to cook them for. We hope this helps for now and do let us know if there's anything else we can help with 😃

Ellie - Nov. 28, 2021, 8:34 p.m.

This soup is incredible. While it's so simple and budget friendly, it truly doesn't lack in flavour and this yummy comfort feeling. I LOVE this soup. I added a bit of kale from my yard, cause I like to spot some green in my soups.

PUL Team - Nov. 28, 2021, 11:34 p.m.

Thank you for the glowing review, Ellie, it means so much! Homegrown kale sounds like a wonderful addition 😍

Kate - Nov. 28, 2021, 6:33 p.m.

Tried this soup on a whim as I came across it when meal planning for the week. We had everything needed in anyway and it came together super quick. Will definitely make again 👍

Romane - Nov. 28, 2021, 2:06 p.m.

I just love it! It's fast, easy and so tasteful ! I just think that my bouillon cube is particulary salty, it was a bit much ahah but now I found the perfect amount of it !

PUL Team - Nov. 28, 2021, 11:29 p.m.

Hi Romane! Thanks for sharing the insight, the bouillon cubes can be tricky sometimes but we're so glad you find the right mix. If it helps, the brand of the one we tend to use is Maggi 😊

Cody - Nov. 25, 2021, 2:55 a.m.

This didn't last long. Super filling, great for lunch the next day!

Nancy Villasenor - Nov. 24, 2021, 12:57 a.m.

This recipe is so quick, easy and delicious! My baby sister dislikes lentils but she loved this recipe. I wasn't surprised. Pick Up Limes always comes out with healthy tasty meals :)

We appreciate this so much, Nancy, thank you for taking the time to share the kind words ☺️

Lizzy - Nov. 23, 2021, 8:10 p.m.

Love how easy and simple it is. Served it with naan from the grocery, yum. Made extra to freeze for a quick dinner in the future.

A - Nov. 16, 2021, 1:20 a.m.

There is a typo in the recipe "cover with a lid a cook".

PUL Team - Nov. 17, 2021, 1:52 a.m.

Hi there, A, thanks for catching this and bringing it to our attention! The typo has now been fixed. Apologies for any confusion it may have caused 😊

Beth - Nov. 14, 2021, 3:57 p.m.

Aw thank you, Concha, your kind words and support mean so much ☺️

Helene - Nov. 13, 2021, 1:08 a.m.

This was very tasty and easy to make. I used a potato masher before I served it so that the potatoes would be less chunky (personal preference). I would definitely make this again! Thank you, Pick Up Limes! :)

PUL Team - Nov. 13, 2021, 4:04 p.m.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the soup, Helene, we're so happy it was enjoyed ✨

Aude - Nov. 12, 2021, 8:06 p.m.

Just made for dinner. Quick and easy for busy people. Filling recipe in which I added cumin for even more flavor. I may also add some frozen green beans.

Maria - Nov. 12, 2021, 7:34 p.m.

WOW talk about flavor. This was super easy to make, nutritious, and delicious! I will definitely make it again. I added some Sazón completo for some Hispanic flavor!

Beck - Nov. 11, 2021, 5:33 a.m.

This is one of our go to recipes! We just made it tonight. I like that it comes together quickly, especially after a long day. We have enjoyed so many of your recipes over the years. Thank you Sadia!

PUL Team - Nov. 11, 2021, 4:37 p.m.

Woohoo! So glad to hear, Beck, thank YOU 😃

Claire - Nov. 10, 2021, 11 p.m.

Made this after I saw the video today, and it is so easy and delicious! I didn't have onion powder so I just left that out and added a little more garlic. The one thing I can't figure out is why it's such a deep red in the picture, but mine turned out pale orange. I used sweet Hungarian paprika and Turkish Masoor Dal split red lentils. A keeper regardless though!

PUL Team - Nov. 11, 2021, 1:46 a.m.

Hey there, Claire! Different brands of red lentils and paprika can sometimes vary in their colour. Our images are also edited which can enhance the natural hues 🤓 We're so glad the soup was enjoyed in any case 😊

Victoria E - Nov. 6, 2021, 5:21 p.m.

Loved this wholesome and delicious soup! I used dried brown/green lentils that I soaked the night before and scallions (didn't have any onions). It's amazing that you don't need broth for this soup! I will definitely be making this again and again during the fall and winter season.

PUL Team - Nov. 6, 2021, 7:11 p.m.

Mmm delicious substitutions, Victoria, and thanks a bunch for the kind words 🤩

Victoria - Nov. 2, 2021, 2:05 p.m.

I wouldn't have thought such a simple recipe (using water instead of broth, no less) could be so tasty, but I love this stew! The only change I made was to put 1 tbsp of smoked paprika instead of the 1.5 tbsp regular paprika. Both my husband and I enjoyed it. Definitely will be making again.

PUL Team - Nov. 4, 2021, 2:58 a.m.

We're so grateful to hear the soup is being enjoyed, Victoria, thank you for sharing 😃

Natalie - Oct. 27, 2021, 9:34 p.m.

This recipe is so easy and yummy! I always add extra vegetables from the fridge. Zucchini especially is my favorite to add to this soup! Sometimes I do half smoked paprika, half regular too! Any way you make it is fast, tasty and budget friendly too!

PUL Team - Oct. 29, 2021, 5:10 a.m.

Mmm love the addition of other vegetables, Natalie! Thanks a bunch for the lovely review 🌻

Manuela - Sept. 7, 2021, 8:52 p.m.

AMAZING. I just came back home and got a taste of the soup I made in the afternoon and I'm pleasantly surprised it came out THIS GOOD. I was running so I just left it in the counter to chill while I went out for 2-3hours without even trying it. I don't know why I had this feeling it was going to be bland. It's DELICIOUS and VERY filling. I did add a quarter of a red pepper that was going to go bad and a leaf of leak that was about the meet the same fate. I also accidentally let it dry a bit too much (while I was running around) but it's still great. Thick like a pure and lovely. Thank you!

PUL Team - Sept. 8, 2021, 4:02 a.m.

Aw we appreciate the glowing review so much, Manuela! So glad the soup was enjoyed 😃

Magdalena - July 26, 2021, 10:23 a.m.

I have to admit that the new photo convinced me to make this soup.
And Im so glad I did it! It's so simple and quick to make and so warming and comforting.

PUL Team - July 28, 2021, 3:02 a.m.

We're so glad you enjoyed the soup, Magdalena, thank you for the review ☺️

Stephanie - July 24, 2021, 6:32 p.m.

This is my go to when I don’t feel like cooking. It’s quick, delicious, and hearty.

Dana - July 17, 2021, 11:03 p.m.

This is one of my faves. It's so easy to do and tasty! Also it freezes very well. My favorite topping is sauteed onions and hot sauce.

Jule - July 15, 2021, 10:14 a.m.

I tried this when there basically was nothing left in the fridge and I couldn't be bothered to go shopping before having dinner. This is really comforting, smooth and delicious! It would have been better had I had some joghurt to top it off with... But I still had the leaves of some beet roots (which you can use similarly to mangold leaves) that I chopped and added 5 minutes before serving. I recommend some chopped nuts on top if you miss a crunch factor. Will defenitely make this again.

PUL Team - July 18, 2021, 1:46 a.m.

We appreciate this so much, Jule, thanks a bunch for taking the time to share 🤩

Sanjana - June 22, 2021, 8:27 p.m.

I made this and it was the best! I had a small pan though and messed up the ratio of lentils and water so it got a bit thick, which was no problem, it tasted amazing. I also added 4 grams of chilli powder. Surprised how easy and delicious this is!

PUL Team - June 24, 2021, 5:57 a.m.

Thank you for the review, Sanjana, and so glad you enjoyed the soup!

Zulma - June 4, 2021, 8:33 a.m.

I tried this yesterday today and it was super delicious! It's a very simple recipe and I happened to have these ingredients on hand except for the potato (which I substituted with carrot).

PUL Team - June 5, 2021, 8:54 p.m.

A lovely substitution, Zulma! So glad you enjoyed the soup 🤗

Isaiah Buckingham - June 1, 2021, 5:51 a.m.
