Tikka masala is a blend of aromatic and warm spices. The sweet paprika powder and chili give it a signature red colour. It's great to use in preparing Indian-inspired dishes like our Quick Tofu Tikka Masala recipe.
Mix all the spices together in a small jar. Enjoy!

This is a very nice warm spice that is new to me and I’m digging it. I love how you guys break it down to be able to make our owns spices, it’s so much easier. I was wondering if you guys can give the recipe to make the Garam Masala Spice Mix. I seen the article with the spices but I didn’t see where it gave the measurements or ratios…you think you can help with that?
Thanks!

Aw we're so happy to hear, Honey, thank you! We've noted down the request for a Garam Masala Spice Mix recipe 😎
Great spice blend! I made it to try out your tofu tikka madala recipe and I wasn't disappointed. Side note: there's something incredibly therapeutic in preparing home-made spice blends 😌

Hey Natasha, aw thanks for the kind words and for helping make our PUL community so special 💛
Is chili power the powdered chili with heat or the American style spice mix?
PUL Team - Feb. 19, 2023, 1:19 a.m.
A lovely question, Scott! We use a generic chili powder from our local grocery store in the Netherlands which doesn't specify anything else. If you're in North America, it's likely the chili powder is more mild, so you can stand to use more. If you're in the EU, perhaps add less to start and add more to taste when cooking to help avoid too much spice 😃

Hello there! I’m an American living in the Netherlands, and I thought I could clear up this question :) there is definitely a difference between the American version of “chili powder” and the one specified here. The American version is a spice mix used often in Tex Mex dishes and American style chili. The one available in the Netherlands is a pure, single-ingredient chili powder (not a mix), so for Americans this would be more like cayenne pepper powder!
Thanks for the Tikka Masala Spice Mix recipe. One question, Sadia. When you say "chili powder," can I assume you mean Indian chili powder (e.g., Kashmiri chili powder) that is pure red chilis? I live in the US where "chili powder" is usually a milder blend of chilis and other spices.

Hey Colleen, we use a generic chili powder from our local grocery store in the Netherlands, it doesn't specify anything else. If you're in North America, it's likely the chili powder is more mild, so you can use more if you enjoy an extra kick. You could also opt to add it during cooking to taste if needed 🙂
Hi. I cannot fing fenugreek in my local grocery store. Is it necessary in this spice mix or can it be omitted? Thanks a lot. Anna

Hey, Anna, you can omit them if needed. In case it helps, we've had better luck finding dried fenugreek leaves in the international aisle or in ethnic grocery stores. An alternative dried leaf such as celery also provides a similar savoury and nutty flavour 🤗
Colleen Kennealy - Feb. 18, 2023, 3:22 a.m.
Anna, you can also find dried fenugreek leaves on Amazon.com. They have quite a variety--big bags, small jars, etc.
Such a handy spice mix! I've been adding it to curries and it's perfect. It beats measuring out spices one at a time when I'm tired and just want food in my belly as quick as possible 😂
Discussion & Rating
A really nice mix ,it was a success with fussy hubby although I did reduce the chilli powder to 1/2 tsp which made it mild, just how we like it
Used it en it was good

This is my favorite tikka masala recipe. I have to make it in big batches as I use it often and gift it to friends and family.

Makes "curry nights" so much more speedy in our home! Just scoop and done, love that i don't have to fuss with finding all the different spice jars.
