Best Ever Vegan Nutella

Hazelnuts are the star of the show in this chocolatey recipe. The sweetness comes from the wholesomeness of dates, and the rich flavour from unprocessed cocoa powder. A perfect spread to enjoy on toast, on pancakes, or as a dip for fresh fruit.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Spread the hazelnuts onto a baking tray and bake for 10 - 12 minutes, until lightly golden, stirring once halfway*.
  2. When cooled enough to handle, pick up the hazelnuts a handful at a time and rub firmly between the palms of your hands so the skin falls off. Alternatively, the hazelnuts can be rubbed in a clean kitchen cloth. Place the peeled hazelnuts in a high-speed food processor** (ideally 600W or higher).
  3. Blend on high for 4 - 5 minutes, until a nut butter consistency is formed***. Add the remaining ingredients and blend again until smooth.
  4. Taste test. If you prefer a thinner consistency, consider adding more coconut oil and a touch more maple syrup and blend again. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Refined coconut oil is coconut oil that doesn't smell or taste like coconuts. If you prefer a distinct coconut taste, use unrefined coconut oil instead.
  • * Careful to not overcook, as the nuts continue to 'toast' when taken out of the oven.
  • * Using a blender for this is not advised, as there is not enough liquid.
  • *** If your food processor isn't very powerful, you may need to blend it for an extra 5 minutes to achieve the desired consistency or consider adding a bit of vegetable oil to help the process along. If you notice the mixture heats up too much, let it rest to cool slightly so as to not damage your food processor.

Storage

  • Store in a mason jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Pricilla Sanchez - Feb. 13, 2024, 12:23 a.m.

Another family fav. We made this back in 2017 but haven’t had it since then. Taste even better 😋

PUL Team - Feb. 13, 2024, 9:20 p.m.

How exciting to hear you've been enjoying the vegan nutella for all these years, Pricilla!

Ozge - Jan. 29, 2024, 10:53 a.m.

This is my favorite recipe among all recipes. I used to always make it for myself, now I make it for my daughter too. 🥹She also loves it♥️

Madara Nkanga - Jan. 25, 2024, 5:19 p.m.

Made it today, soooo yummy 🤤 for some reason coconut oil didn’t blend in with the nutty butter and when I transferred from the blender to the jar, the oil separated completely from the butter. So I’ve got myself quite thick Nutella butter, but still very very yummy.

PUL Team - Jan. 26, 2024, 4:55 a.m.

Hey Madara, we're glad you enjoy the taste! For better blending if you give the recipe another try, you can try adding the melted coconut oil slowly while blending to ensure it emulsifies with the nut butter. You can also try stirring your nutella mixture thoroughly to help incorporate the oil 😊

Terhi - Jan. 25, 2024, 4 a.m.

24 servings?! I would say more like 5. :D This is sooooo yummy that I could eat spoonfuls of it straight out of the jar. Thank you so much for the recipe! <3
PS. After roasting the hazelnuts I couldn't get all the skin off them. Does it matter? I mean, it still tastes excellent.

PUL Team - Jan. 26, 2024, 1:41 a.m.

Aww we're glad that the vegan "nutella" is being enjoyed, Terhi! Roasting the hazelnuts for a touch longer until the skins darken can make them peel easier. We've also heard positive reviews for rubbing them in a kitchen towel to help remove more of the skin. In any case, having a bit of skin on the hazelnuts is okay - if anything offers a bit more fibre 😃

Terhi - Jan. 26, 2024, 2:30 a.m.

Thanks for the reply! I will try roasting the nuts a little longer next time. Although, extra fiber is always good. ;)

hazel - Jan. 21, 2024, 7:47 p.m.

This is a game changer!
It’s so delicious, it was so easy (I managed to buy already roasted hazelnuts) and it’s so good in anything 🤤 Definitely make this if you like hazelnut chocolate!

PUL Team - Jan. 21, 2024, 11:49 p.m.

Yayy thanks for the heartwarming review, Hazel, thank you!

Sonali JAIN - Jan. 18, 2024, 9:06 p.m.

Not buying any vegan chocolate spread ever again!
It was decadent 🤌🤌🤌

Marlene - Jan. 4, 2024, 10:05 p.m.

I simply love it! <3

Jana - Dec. 24, 2023, 6:17 p.m.

We found the taste to be more like a healthy date chocolate hazelnut spread rather than a Nutella copycat, so the recipe name could be a bit misleading, but it could be expected given the ingredients and it makes it so you can eat it more regularly! Modifications: It was thick for us - we added 2 Tbsp extra milk but probably could have added a bit more. We only had unrefined coconut oil, but at only 1 Tbsp you couldn’t taste the difference.

Lily - Dec. 16, 2023, 4:38 p.m.

Soooooo goooood 🤤. I halved the recipe, but will make the default amount next time because we ate it all so quickly!! 😂 I had some difficulty getting the skin off the hazelnuts, maybe I didn't roast it long enough? I only got about 50% of the skin peeled off, but didn't find it bitter luckily!! Will try again next time

PUL Team - Dec. 18, 2023, 4:12 a.m.

Hey Lily, so glad that the Vegan Nutella was enjoyed 😃 Indeed roasting the hazelnuts for a bit longer until the skins darken can make them peel easier. We've also heard positive reviews for rubbing them in a kitchen towel to help remove more of the skin. Having a bit of skin on the hazelnuts is totally okay too though, if anything offers a bit more fibre! 🤗

by sara - Oct. 26, 2023, 2:44 a.m.

Delicious

keerthi - Oct. 17, 2023, 4:10 p.m.

Love the recipe. I like things sweeter, so I added some extra sugar 😬

Y - Sept. 16, 2023, 9:11 a.m.

Wonderful recipe!!!

Kaitlyn Youmans - Aug. 27, 2023, 12:45 a.m.

Love this!! I will make it all the time, I love to put it on toast and put some berries on it for an easy breakfast snack. It also helps me eat this instead of the awful, unhealthy nutella.

Viktorija - June 26, 2023, 11:03 p.m.

I finished it wayyy faster than I expected hehe highly recommend

Nadia - June 20, 2023, 3:17 p.m.

OMG! This is the stuff dreams are made of! This recipe taste just like Nutella without the dairy and preservatives. I am so glad I found it. This will become a staple for sure. Thanks PUL!

Theresa - June 14, 2023, 12:59 a.m.

I made this receipe when it was first posted on Youtube and while doing the shopping list this week it came to mind again. Still my favourite "Nutella" after all these years. I can't wait to make it again. Theresa (Australia)

PUL Team - June 14, 2023, 1:54 a.m.

Aw so happy to hear, Theresa, thanks 🤗

Leah - June 8, 2023, 12:46 a.m.

I made this nutella today and it was so good! My mom also tried it and said she could eat it out of the jar with a spoon! Thank you for the recipe!

Vanshika - May 25, 2023, 2:11 p.m.

I'm really excited to make this. Can I use cocoa butter instead of the coconut oil?

PUL Team - May 25, 2023, 5:39 p.m.

Hey Vanshika, we imagine you could use the same amount of cocoa butter as the recipe calls for coconut oil, melt it gently, and follow the rest of the recipe as directed. Expect a slight difference in flavour but it should still be delicious 🙂

Neo from South Africa - April 15, 2023, 11:06 a.m.

I’ve been making this Nutella every month! It’s delicious!! It also has a distinct difference in taste from the original Nutella, which makes one wonder what else is in the products we buy.

PUL Team - April 15, 2023, 10:28 p.m.

Aw so happy the recipe is being enjoyed, Neo! Sending hugs to South Africa 🤗

Nivedita - April 13, 2023, 10:50 a.m.

Tried this recipe a few months ago, and never went back to store-bought nutella!

Weronika - April 5, 2023, 6:04 p.m.

My must have! I am doing a jar every week. It is delicious on a toast with banana slices. I am lazy and I am buying already roasted nuts :)

PUL Team - April 7, 2023, 7:07 p.m.

So glad it's being enjoyed, Weronika, thank you 😃

Lauralyn - March 16, 2023, 9:01 p.m.

This recipe is delicious! I'm amazed at how good it turned out. Thank you for sharing. :)

PUL Team - March 18, 2023, 2:19 a.m.

Thanks so much, Lauralyn!

Carolynn - March 10, 2023, 7:45 p.m.

I wasn't sure if I rated this or commented when I first made this recipe years ago, but if I didn't, this review is long overdue! This is, without question, my favorite vegan Nutella recipe. I absolutely LOVE it. I've made it as-is a number of times, but today, I opted to leave out the coconut oil (definitely enough fat in the hazelnuts!). I added a little more plant milk instead and it still turned out fabulous. YUM!!!! This is definitely a favorite treat. Thank you, as always, Sadia!!!!

PUL Team - March 11, 2023, 4:02 p.m.

Oh thank YOU for the glowing review and support, Carolynn, it means so much 🥰

Heather - Feb. 11, 2023, 2:30 a.m.

Gosh this is delicious. I eat it right off the spoon! It's the perfect sweet treat. Thank you!

Amy - Dec. 11, 2022, 6:59 p.m.

Haven't tried it yet but sounds amazing. What other nuts can we use instead of hazelnuts? We have cashews, almonds and walnuts. Can we swap any of those? Would the measurements remain the same?

PUL Team - Dec. 12, 2022, 12:03 a.m.

Hi Amy, hazelnuts contribute a fair bit to this recipe but you could use another nut and change up the dip. For example with almonds, cashews, or peanuts to make a different yet delicious dip. In case you're interested and haven't already seen, our Chocolate Almond Spread uses almonds or an alternative nut butter: pickuplimes.com/recipe/2-minu… 🙂

Amy - Dec. 12, 2022, 4:46 a.m.

Ok thank you

Natalia - Nov. 1, 2022, 7:26 p.m.

Hi, I absolutely love this recipe since I have a toddler boy in school now. But, quick question! Can I use regular milk as well instead of lactose-free milk? Will this make the shelf-life less?

PUL Team - Nov. 2, 2022, 4:41 a.m.

Hey there, Natalia! Thanks for the question. Since we only use plant-based products here at PUL we haven't tested it out, but we hope you enjoy the recipe if you're able to give it a try☺️

Sarah - Oct. 30, 2022, 11:26 a.m.

Amazing, we love it <3 thank you!

KK - Oct. 25, 2022, 4:25 p.m.

Can you use roasted hazelnut if you can’t find raw?

PUL Team - Oct. 26, 2022, 5 a.m.

Hey there, KK, yes you can use pre-roasted hazelnuts. You can rewarm them in the oven for 5 minutes or so to help them blend smoother and refresh the taste if desired 🙂

Tanya - Oct. 17, 2022, 12:09 p.m.

I'm not a vegan but I'm trying to eat more healthily (and I've been experimenting a few of your recipes already), so I made this Nutella today, and wow, it's sooooooo much better than the jar stuff. Thanks for the recipe!

PUL Team - Oct. 18, 2022, 1:22 a.m.

Awe we're so glad it was enjoyed, Tanya, thank YOU 😊

Angela - Oct. 3, 2022, 3:44 a.m.

This Nutella is absolutely amazing! It is so much more tasty than the store bought brand. Thank you for posting this recipe. Yum!

PUL Team - Oct. 5, 2022, 4:01 p.m.

A huge compliment, Angela, thank you!

Maria - Sept. 27, 2022, 4:39 p.m.

I love this Nutella!

Karlijn - Sept. 12, 2022, 1:11 p.m.

So tasty!!!
I often try out nee and vegan recepties but they are never as good as they look. But in this case… it exceeded my expectations and I absolutely love it!

Thank you!

I am going to try out a lot more recepties from your website :)

PUL Team - Sept. 12, 2022, 5:27 p.m.

It means so much, Karlijn, thank you! Happy cooking 🤗

Marilena - Sept. 10, 2022, 6:28 p.m.

This is the second time I try this recipe and omg it's amazing and a family favorite - as it turns out! The only thing is the first time I noticed that after staying in the fridge, the consistency was quite thick to spread on a slice of bread, so this time I added more coconut oil and I think that it is much better! Thanks Sadia!!

PUL Team - Sept. 11, 2022, 4:51 a.m.

Hey there, Marilena, the mixture tends to thicken up when it's been sitting in the fridge and is cold. Allowing the spread to sit out for a little to warm up can help. So glad it's being enjoyed in any case 😃

Penny - Sept. 1, 2022, 8:20 p.m.

So I made the Nutella and it tastes great, BUT the consistency is thin and super nutty! I don’t know how to make my hazelnuts turn into that nut butter substance! There’s no blend button on my Ninja machine. Do you chop it? Or make a dough? What do people do!?

PUL Team - Sept. 5, 2022, 12:38 a.m.

Hi there, Penny, thanks for the question! Are you using the Ninja blender or food processor? Here are three ideas that may help:
1) Let it run for longer. Sometimes the extra 5 or 10 minutes can make all the difference!
2) If this doesn't work, it could be that your food processor isn't powerful enough. We recommend a food processor as they're better suited to blend semi-solids than a blender which are typically meant for liquids.
3) Try adding a Tbsp or so of coconut oil. This might help to make it a bit more creamy.

We hope this helps for now 🙂

Jennifer - Aug. 27, 2022, 5:39 p.m.

The other day my daughter (who is getting her masters degree currently) said she was wanting Nutella. I told her not to buy it because I saw it on your site when I was looking up an energy ball recipe. Anyway, I made it this morning with croissants and coffee and it did not disappoint! I love that I can do small things to make her week a little less stressful.

PUL Team - Aug. 28, 2022, 7:57 p.m.

Oh how sweet of you to make it for your daughter, Jennifer! We're so happy to hear it was enjoyed 🤗

Amanda - Aug. 19, 2022, 7:25 p.m.

I kept the skins on as I like the additional fiber & antioxidants. It's quite yummy on toast with some strawberries.

PUL Team - Aug. 20, 2022, 2:10 a.m.

So glad it was enjoyed, Amanda! In case you're interested or want to try, the skin of hazelnuts is usually bitter which can impact the taste and if the skin doesn't blend well it can also impact the texture 🙂

Claire - June 22, 2022, 5:43 p.m.

So grateful for this recipe (and all the other amazing ones)!
This nutella tastes delicious! However, it's the second time I make it and I encountered the same problem each time: the nutella soured after 2 days in my fridge. T_T (Let me clarify that my refrigerator is set at the right temperature. xD) I checked all the commentaries, but apparently I'm the only one to experience that (which is even more troubling). It must be my mistake, but I really don't see it.
I'm using the exact same ingredients as you are so, honestly, I don't get it. Any idea?
Thank you so much Sadia and the PUL team! Keep up the good work. ^^

PUL Team - June 23, 2022, 3:38 p.m.

Hey Claire, aw we're so happy the PUL recipes are being enjoyed. How disappointing to hear about the souring of this one though! Perhaps it may have to do with the batch of hazelnuts if they're rancid and imparting a sour taste. Giving the recipe a try with all fresh ingredients may help. After preparing, it could also be worth a try to let the mixture sit to cool before storing it in an airtight glass container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Do let us know if you give the recipe another try, Claire, and thank you again ☺️

Rosângela Alves - June 13, 2022, 7:17 p.m.

Great recipe, thanks! I just adapted it a little bit and actually made it with roasted nuts, skin included. May I ask why it is recommended to put away the nut skin? Made it on the Magimix food processor, bought following your advice from a video about kitchen tools. Great advice, I am very happy with it! Good job!

PUL Team - June 16, 2022, 2:04 a.m.

Hey Rosângela, thanks for sharing your experience with it. The skin of hazelnuts is usually quite bitter so it can impact the taste, and if the skin doesn't blend well it can also impact the texture which may not be desirable 🙂

Lavanya - June 11, 2022, 2:04 a.m.

Hi ! Can I skip soy milk to increase the shelf life and ship it ? I have made it a couple of time with milk and it was absolutely delicious 😋 . So good that I want to ship it internationally to my sister but I am not sure if it wouldn’t go bad.

PUL Team - June 13, 2022, 4:19 p.m.

Hey there, Lavanya, thank you for the kind words! How sweet to consider sharing it as well. You could make the spread without milk and add it in later, although in our experience the time to ship internationally can be variable and sometimes a bumpy ride so we're not confident it would keep as well. To help with freshness storing it in an airtight container would work best if you end up testing it out. Perhaps it could also be a nice excuse to have a sister reunion 😜

Suluhu - May 28, 2022, 7:39 p.m.

I was stubborn and decided to make this in the blender. After all, it's been handling all other nut butters like a champ. I was wrong. The blender overheated and stopped midway through. I had to transfer the contents to the food processor and finish the job, as I had promised my children that they'd be eating nutella and banana sandwiches for lunch. They also wanted to help make it, and there was a lot of drama when the blender stopped and the 4 year old convinced the 2 year old that the machine he uses to make smoothies every day was broken FOREVER.

In the end, I had twice the cleanup to do. Please don't be stubborn like me. Listen to Sadia and use a food processor.

PS: it was delicious!
PS2: both the toddler and the blender were fine after they cooled down a bit.

PUL Team - May 28, 2022, 11:02 p.m.

Oh, Suluhu, thanks a bunch for taking the time to share your experience with it. So glad the blender and little one were okay after a bit of a break 😜 We certainly do recommend a food processor for this one but we're so glad it was still enjoyed after everything!

Gosha - March 19, 2022, 10:41 p.m.

I managed to make it in blender, hard work but it came out absolutely delicious!.( don't own food processor yet)
Thank you for amazing recipes ❤️.
I made today nutella and sweet and sour tofu, yummy 😋 😍 😊 👌

PUL Team - March 19, 2022, 10:48 p.m.

Thanks for sharing your experience with making the recipe, Gosha, it's so appreciated! We hope your blender is okay too 😊

Ivana - March 2, 2022, 8:41 a.m.

This morning I tested my new food processor and the result was incredible, I didn't have to open it every minute to stir sides. When hazelnut butter was finished I just opened your receipt and voila! a Nutella ready on the breakfast table! I love how it's easy and you can just open ingredients and put what you have. It is great weather way. I just regret not having vegan milk at the moment so it turned a little harder ....

PUL Team - March 2, 2022, 4:53 p.m.

Mmm sounds lovely, Ivana! Your food processor sounds incredible 😃

J-Y - Feb. 28, 2022, 11:47 p.m.

Prepared and tried it two days ago during a Brittany crepe party with some friends, totally loved it ! I am no vegan so far but I am opening up to vegan meals recently and your youtube channel has been a considerable push to try out more and more alternatives to what I am used to.

PUL Team - March 1, 2022, 12:36 a.m.

So glad it was enjoyed, J-Y, and happy experimenting 🤗

Tiara - Feb. 21, 2022, 3:43 p.m.

This is the best Nutella I have ever eaten. Also tastes amazing in addition with your Banana bread:)

PUL Team - Feb. 22, 2022, 4:16 a.m.

We're so honoured to hear, Tiara, thank you!

Kateryna - Feb. 15, 2022, 4:33 p.m.

Hi. Can you swap plant milk for coconut milk? Thank you.

PUL Team - Feb. 15, 2022, 8:14 p.m.

Hey Kateryna! Yes, you can use coconut milk if desired. Were you thinking of canned or cartoned coconut milk? Lighter coconut milk rather than full fat may be preferred, although you could always add some water to thin out the spread if needed 😊

Alexandra Fernandez Wyss - Feb. 7, 2022, 2:57 a.m.

Tastes soooooo gooooood!!! Thank you for this recipe Sadia!!

PUL Team - Feb. 8, 2022, 7:05 p.m.

Woohoo! Thank you, Alexandra ☺️

Stacey Angel - Feb. 4, 2022, 9:50 p.m.

Absolutely delicious!

Alexa - Feb. 1, 2022, 11:12 p.m.

Peeling off the hazelnut skins took the longest but it was worth it! I never tried Nutella before (even before going vegan) but now I understand why it's so popular. Thanks for sharing this! Now I have a lovely jar of spreadable, creamy chocolately goodness :)

PUL Team - Feb. 2, 2022, 7:49 a.m.

So happy it was worth it, Alexa, it means so much 😃

Suzy - Jan. 30, 2022, 6:19 p.m.

Soooooo delicious!!

Carla - Jan. 30, 2022, 12:08 p.m.

I kust made it and it’s absolutely delicious! I have a question: Can I freeze it? If yes, for how long it will keep in the freezer?
Thank you!
I am a big fan of your work. :)

PUL Team - Jan. 31, 2022, 1:12 a.m.

Hey Carla, thank you for the kind words! We can't say for certain as we haven't tried it before, but we've frozen nut butter in ice cube trays successfully so perhaps that may be an idea to test out! Let us know how it goes if you try freezing it 😊

Corinne - Feb. 11, 2022, 7:37 p.m.

I previously froze this and thawed it in the fridge. It worked great. I don't think it tasted any different than before freezing!

PUL Team - Feb. 14, 2022, 2:22 a.m.

How lovely! Thanks for the insight, Corinne :)

Carla Duclos - Feb. 14, 2022, 6:44 a.m.

Thank you very much for the replies. I’ve frozen it in small portions but haven’t thawed yet. Will try thawing in the fridge. Thank you! :)

Alana - Jan. 14, 2022, 8:19 p.m.

Thanks for this recipe PUL team! This and the chocolate oatmeal ones are the first things I've made and not been 100% about. I still haven't figured out how I like the oatmeal but with the nutella I had to add more soy milk to make it taste lighter which is how I prefer Nutella. I added another 1/3 cup and a splash or two more to thin it out. Looking forward to using it this week :)

PUL Team - Jan. 15, 2022, 12:12 a.m.

Hey Alana, thanks for taking the time to share the honest feedback! It's super valuable to help us improve. The addition of soy milk is a lovely idea to lighten it up. Some prefer thinning it out with oil, such as coconut oil which is solid at room temperature, so that may be another option to consider if desired. Enjoy ✨

Elena - Jan. 12, 2022, 2:44 p.m.

Wow, this is way better than store bought nuttela. You taste way more than just sugar. And so easy to make!!! I am definitly gonna make this again;)

PUL Team - Jan. 12, 2022, 9:12 p.m.

A huge compliment, Elena, we're so glad it's being enjoyed!

Rachael - Jan. 8, 2022, 3:24 p.m.

This recipe has a great balance of sweetness! Not overwhelmingly sweet like store bought nutella, and definitely has a more complex flavor. I used pre-roasted hazelnuts which cut down on the time so this all came together pretty quickly. I also soaked the dates in hot water and removed the skins before pitting. Loved the outcome – tasted great with waffles and topped with crumbled frozen raspberries!

PUL Team - Jan. 9, 2022, 7:24 a.m.

Awe we're so thrilled to hear, Rachael! Enjoying it on waffles sounds delicious 😍

Vidya - Dec. 8, 2021, 12:26 a.m.

What an absolute pleasure this was!!! Thank you so much, made it for my sweet tooth vegan sister, and it has become my favourite too. Seriously, i reduced eating regular nutella, cause of their use of palm oil, even though i loved it, but after tasting this, i'm not going to miss that at all. This tastes different, but so much better. The chocolate and the hazelnut shines through instead of being overpowered by sugar. My favourite way to enjoy it is to just spread it on plain bread with roasted almonds and toasted seeds mix.

PUL Team - Dec. 8, 2021, 3:22 a.m.

Hi Vidya - thanks a bunch for the kind words! Serving it on toast with almonds and seeds sounds soo delicious 😍

Hayley - Dec. 2, 2021, 7:26 a.m.

Second time I've made this. So in love! I cheated a little and purchased blanched hazelnuts so I didn't have to peel off the skin. I also only have a small vitamix and whilst I know it would be easier in a food blender it certainly does the trick! :) YUM

PUL Team - Dec. 2, 2021, 5:22 p.m.

We're so happy that the recipe is being enjoyed, Hayley, and thanks for the insight!

Michelle - Oct. 29, 2021, 9:33 p.m.

Outstanding ❤️

Amanda - Oct. 28, 2021, 9:40 p.m.

Such a delicious spread!!! I tried 'regular' Nutella again after making this to compare, and didn't even enjoy it- it was sooo sweet and not as flavorful as this recipe!!

Marie - Oct. 26, 2021, 2:13 p.m.

This was so fun to make! I served this with your waffle recipe, and one non-vegan friend chose this over conventional nutella :)
It was really hard not to spoon the hazelnut-butter, haha. You can really taste the dates, so for someone who really doesn't like dates it might be too much.

PUL Team - Oct. 27, 2021, 2:15 a.m.

Mmm a lovely pairing, Marie! Thanks for taking the time to share ✨

Eve - Oct. 14, 2021, 8:16 a.m.

AH-MA-ZING!!!
Love from Australia xx

PUL Team - Oct. 15, 2021, 1:08 a.m.

Lots of love to Australia, Eve 🤗

Miri - Oct. 14, 2021, 7:43 a.m.

I actually don't like conventional Nutella. But I loooooove this one.
Have been making this spread for about 2 years now. It's so easy!
Thank you <3

PUL Team - Oct. 15, 2021, 1:07 a.m.

We appreciate this so much, Miri, two years in incredible!

Salome van Ingen - Oct. 12, 2021, 9:08 p.m.

It is so easy to make! Very satisfying! What I like the most about this recipe is that it is free of palm oil. It is also a fun way to share this as a gift to friends and promote vegan deliciousness. Thank you for this wonderful recipe ❤

PUL Team - Oct. 13, 2021, 3:34 a.m.

So kind of you to gift the recipe, Salome! Glad the recipe is being enjoyed 🤗

Elisa - Oct. 9, 2021, 7:02 p.m.

hi Sadia, is there an alternative to dates? it is not winter yet, so I can't find them in the stores

PUL Team - Oct. 10, 2021, 12:17 a.m.

Hey Elisa, thank you for the question! The dates help add some natural sweetness and stickiness. We haven't tested it out, but perhaps experimenting with another dried fruit, more syrup, or nut butter to the desired taste and texture could work. Alternatively, you may be interested in our 2-Minute Chocolate Almond Spread for a recipe without dates if you haven't already seen it: pickuplimes.com/recipe/2-minu…. Let us know how it goes if you give either a try 🤗

Elisa - Oct. 10, 2021, 12:31 a.m.

Thank you, your reply was very helpful, I will definitely test that out 🥰

Sasa - Oct. 9, 2021, 12:34 a.m.

Awesome!

Sree - Sept. 1, 2021, 4:05 a.m.

This recipe is unbelievably good! Thank you so much for this recipe :)

Emily - Aug. 3, 2021, 7:17 p.m.

This is literally the best ever vegan Nutella! Since going vegan I have struggled to find a replacement for conventional Nutella. There are plenty of vegan chocolate-hazelnut spreads out there - both recipes and store bought jars - but none of them lived up to the original in terms of taste and texture until I came across this recipe. The taste and texture are perfect and this one is actually a lot more wholesome than the original which is full of palm oil, refined sugar and dairy. My favourite way to enjoy Nutella has always been on toasted cinnamon raisin bagels, so very happy to have this back in my life!

PUL Team - Aug. 5, 2021, 5:17 a.m.

We're so happy to hear you're enjoying the recipe, Emily! Serving it on toasted cinnamon raisin bagels sound delicious 😍

Jo - July 27, 2021, 4:50 p.m.

Truly is Best. Ever. I make this as a gift for people and they always report that the jar only lasted a day or two in their house! It almost tastes like brownie batter (and is nutritious)!

Andreea - July 24, 2021, 8:13 p.m.

Ok so this is the best vegan Nutella recipe that I have ever tried.
My BF is in love with it and he asks me to do it every time. We love to make crêpes 🥞 and I banned Nutella from my life a long time ago and I convinced my BF to do the same and we replaced Nutella with jams or confitures but now your vegan Nutella is all that we use
Thank you so much, amazing one!

PUL Team - July 26, 2021, 7:43 p.m.

Aw, Andreea, you're too kind! Thank you for the glowing review. It's so appreciated ✨

Ky - July 24, 2021, 1:22 a.m.

Soooo good! Well worth the effort. Never liked store bought nutella and I'm so glad I tried this recipe. Great with strawberries!

PUL Team - July 25, 2021, 9:08 p.m.

So glad you're enjoying the recipe, Ky, love it with strawberries 🍓

Abi - July 23, 2021, 1:50 a.m.

Hi

Can we use diced hazel nuts for this recipe? All your recipe's are too good:))

PUL Team - July 25, 2021, 2:36 a.m.

Hey Abi, totally! They'll probably roast faster so we'd recommend watching them more closely 😊

Abinaya - July 28, 2021, 11:48 p.m.

Sure thank you 😊

Abinaya - Aug. 25, 2021, 9:34 a.m.

Hi I tried the nutella recipe, it was awesome and spot on . Thank you for sharing wonderful recipes 😊

Jella - July 19, 2021, 7:16 p.m.

Seriously the best Nutella ever! So good my food processor over heated and it started smoking (literally). Luckily my food processor recovered from it. I'll be more careful next time XD

PUL Team - July 20, 2021, 3:28 p.m.

We're really glad your food processor recovered, Jella! Definitely worth it to stop the food processor if you experience any weird smells or sounds 🙂

Vanshika - July 14, 2021, 12:24 p.m.

Hi PUL team !
I don’t have access to hazelnuts so is their any other substitute for it.
I really want to try this recipe
It looks so good 😊

PUL Team - July 18, 2021, 1:17 a.m.

Hi Vanshika, hazelnuts contribute a fair bit to this recipe. Feel free to experiment with another nut of choice if desired, such as almond or cashews, although the end result will likely be impacted 🙂

Nada Hindi - July 12, 2021, 4:36 a.m.

I've made this recipe a couple of times and I absolutely love it. I keep coming back to it even after I try other methods of making Nutella and this is truly my favorite. I was wondering if it is possible to make a large amount and freeze it for later consumption?

PUL Team - July 16, 2021, 6:29 a.m.

So thrilled you're enjoying the recipe, Nada! I can't say for certain as we haven't tried it before, but I've frozen nut butter in ice cube trays successfully before so perhaps that may be an idea to test out! Let us know how it goes if you try freezing this one ✨

Katherine Broberg - July 9, 2021, 8:28 p.m.

So delicious and hands down healthier than the store bought version!

Andrea - July 8, 2021, 10:28 p.m.

Since I tried this recipe, it has become my go-to sweet treat. It just AMAZING! Thank you so so much PUL :)

PUL Team - July 11, 2021, 3:14 p.m.

So happy you're enjoying it, Andrea! 🥰

Victoria - July 8, 2021, 9:56 p.m.

Absolutely amazing!!! I've made this and just eaten it out of the food processor. I've gifted it to friends, brought it to work. Everyone is always impressed. I'm never buying Nutella again. The hazelnuts are a bit annoying to peel, sometimes I just leave the skins on.

Gina Benson - July 2, 2021, 3:23 a.m.

Thank you so much for this recipe! I haven’t bought store Nutella for over a year because I just refuse to do that to my family any more. We have been doing our best to eliminate processed sugar out of our diets and only use natural sweeteners. The best part? My kids ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS! My nine year old said, “Mom! This is better than what you buy in Costco! Please always make this for us!”

THANK YOUUUU! ♥️♥️♥️

PUL Team - July 2, 2021, 6:56 a.m.

We're so happy that you and your little ones are enjoying the spread, Gina!

Hannah - June 14, 2021, 12:59 a.m.

I made this and it doesn’t taste sweet at all, just kind of bitter :( does anyone have advice for what I could do? I used unsweetened cacao powder rather than cocoa powder, could that be the issue?

PUL Team - June 14, 2021, 6:38 a.m.

Hello Hannah, we're disappointed to see the recipe didn't turn out as planned! Thank you for sharing your experience and being open to suggestions. Cacao power shouldn't give an overly bitter flavour for this spread if the quantity used is equal.

Perhaps the hazelnuts used weren't fresh, or alternatively were overroasted! Leaving excess skin on the nuts after roasting can also give a more bitter taste. If you think any of these ideas may have been the culprit, we'd recommend keeping the nuts in the oven for less time while spending a bit longer peeling off the pesky skins next time 😃

Hannah - June 14, 2021, 5:54 p.m.

Thank you !

Ramona - June 6, 2021, 10:36 a.m.

Hello!
In the video: "5 meals I eat each week vegan & healthy ", is your Nutella much lighter and more fluid than on your HP. Like it's real Nutella.
How do I do that?
Sophia gave me the tip to warming up the Nutella in the microwave, But it just wasn't the same. :)

PUL Team - June 6, 2021, 10 p.m.

Hi Ramona, thanks for the question! I have a couple of ideas that could help with the spread being more fluid:
1) Let the mixture run for longer in the food processor. Sometimes an extra 5 minutes can make all the difference with spreads like this one.
2) Add more coconut oil or soy milk to help the spread get more of a liquid consistency if desired. We filmed the video a few years ago so I can't recall exactly, but I think I added more coconut oil, and used it straight out of the food processor so it was still rather "liquid" because of the warmth from the turning blades.
3) Allow the nutella to sit out for a little. The mixture tends to thicken up when it's been sitting in the fridge and is cold.

I hope this helps for now, and that you enjoy the recipe! 🤗

Liudmila - June 5, 2021, 11:44 a.m.

Sadia, thank you for this recipe. My children like it very much. And I am happy - now my children can cook this Nutella themselves.
Have a nice day and new cooking ideas!

PUL Team - June 5, 2021, 8:59 p.m.

Aww so wonderful that your little ones have been able to make the spread on their own! Thank you for the support, Liudmila 😃

Sacchi - May 30, 2021, 10:38 a.m.

Thank you so much for the recipe!
I have one question concerning the choice of dates. Why is it, that everybody is using only medjool dates? I grew up eating only other type of dates and there are, no matter where i go, way cheaper and I always have them on hand. Are medjool actually needed for specific results?
I never tried them, so I am thankful for any experiences made by others :)

PUL Team - May 30, 2021, 4:20 p.m.

Hi Sacchi, that's a super great question! Feel free to use whatever dates you have on hand. We prefer Medjool dates as they're generally a bit bigger and chewier than the more firm and smaller dates available to us. You may find it helpful to add a few more dates to the mixture if it's not as sticky as desired when using whatever dates are accessible to you ✨🤗

Sacchi - June 1, 2021, 5:36 a.m.

Thank you so much for your answer. I was suspecting something in that direction, but now I can be sure and will try it out with some other types.
Wish you all the best :D

Aggie - May 29, 2021, 2:26 p.m.

So addictive and delicious! Thank you so much for the recipe, I find it to be better than Nutella. It has wonderful depth and a homemade texture that makes me go nuts (pun intended 🤓).

PUL Team - May 30, 2021, 8:26 a.m.

Such a wonderful compliment, Aggie, and we love the pun too!! 😃🤗

Tabea - May 16, 2021, 4:08 p.m.

So delicious! Love it!
But since I am only one person, I won't finish it within one week. Do you think I could keep it for longer? Or do you have a recipe to use the Nutella for?
The new website is so so great!

PUL Team - May 17, 2021, 4:35 a.m.

Hey Tabea! You could likely keep it for longer but it may lose some freshness. A few recipes we enjoy the spread in include our ‘Nutella' overnight oats, buckwheat pancakes, and chocolate hazelnut smoothie! You can find these recipes using the search function. Another option may be to use the scale feature to make a smaller batch✨☺️

Brana - May 15, 2021, 3:26 p.m.

I've been waiting so long to by a food processor and try this recipe, it turned out great only thing is I find it a little bit bitter doesn't bother me but is it possible that this is due to the hazelnuts I used or maybe the cocoa powder idk... also I loooove pick up limes it's amazing

PUL Team - May 16, 2021, 12:15 a.m.

Ooo so exciting to be getting a food processor, Brana! The cocoa powder may have been the culprit for the slight bitterness. Using a tad less cocoa or adding a bit of salt or sugar should help make the cocoa less sharp if you're finding it bitter 🙂

Jerome - April 26, 2021, 8:57 a.m.

Does it really go bad after a week?

PUL Team - April 27, 2021, 5:35 a.m.

Hey Jerome! We find it tastes the freshest within the first week. You could likely store it a bit longer - if it lasts that long at least 😉

Emily - April 24, 2021, 2:45 a.m.

Thank you so much for this recipe. My boyfriend and I are excited to try this. Could we use peanut instead of hazelnuts? Thank you! :)

PUL Team - April 24, 2021, 3:40 a.m.

Hi Emily, feel free to use peanuts! It will be more of a peanut dip as you may imagine but likely still delicious 🥜

Evi - April 20, 2021, 2:27 p.m.

Is it possible to make such a Nutella spread in Vitamix instead of food processor or is it going to overload it?

PUL Team - April 22, 2021, 1:40 a.m.

Hey Evi, that’s a great question. It may depend on the model, but given Vitamix blenders are generally powerful enough for nuts, I imagine it would work! If you hear any weird sounds or smell anything unexpected, it likely would be best to stop blending though. Happy cooking 🙂

Evi - April 22, 2021, 10:49 a.m.

Many thanks! I just bought my Vitamix Ascent Series A3500i 1400W, i hope it works out! Thank you so much for all this motivation and inspiration you give me for healthy nutrition. I honestly believe your recipes really differ from other based-plant recipes I find around. Kisses from Greece!

Jenny - April 4, 2021, 5:01 a.m.

Delicious! I think it’s better than Nutella, nuttier, more intense chocolate taste and less sweet. Thanks, I love all of your recipes!

PUL Team - April 20, 2021, 6:40 a.m.

So incredible to hear, Jenny! Thank you for the lovely review 😁

Diana P. - April 1, 2021, 11:37 p.m.

I am not a vegan or vegetarian, but I do like to eat healthy so I love your healthy recipes! THANK YOU SO MUCH for this homemade nutella spread recipe! I'm trying to keep my kids limited (or away) from sugar and preservatives, but still want them to enjoy chocolate flavored snacks, and even myself to eat with Matzo gluten free crackers and tea. I did this recipe a few days ago, and where it didn't go well was when I rubbed the hazelnuts in my hands, many did NOT become skinless. I think it's because I forgot to stir it once while they were being roasted? (I put it on the middle rack of my oven, which I have to learn the difference between top, middle and lower rack). We'll see how it turns out the next time I do it. I couldn't taste it because I'm currently on a strict candida cleanse diet, but both my 3.5 yr old daughter and almost 2 son ate it with oatmeal coconut protein (eggs) pancakes I made from scratch, and my son ate the nutella on Matzo gluten free cracker. They both liked it! So I was happy because it's stressful trying to plan and be creative with healthy meals for my kids. Keep up the good work your doing with your blog and Youtube channel!

PUL Team - April 11, 2021, 11:12 a.m.

So glad the little ones enjoyed it, Diana! Having a bit of skin remaining on the hazelnuts is absolutely okay, and if anything offers a bit more fibre, so I wouldn't sweat it. If you ever plan to make it in the future as well, you can always buy pre-skinned hazelnuts 😊

Maya - March 22, 2021, 8:44 a.m.

Really good! Addicting really. Of course, it didn’t taste like actual Nutella, but I still loved it. Definitely a lot more nutty. The dates also added a good flavor. Wish I had more hazelnuts so I could make it again!

PUL Team - March 29, 2021, 5:48 p.m.

Hey Maya, so glad you enjoyed it! :)
